And Here We Thought Jay Cutler Was A Tool. Then There's Johnny Manziel
Mike replied to iso_55's topic in General Discussion
I like his style. Style, what style? He's partying himself out of the NFL the way he's going. Right now, there aren't 31 teams in the NFL who'd pick the guy up on waivers because of the way he has approached the game, his bad attitude, lack of NFL skills at the qb position to be successful & that huge contract. Joe Namath used to party but at least he backed it up on the field. The guy was hung over & still beat the Baltimore Colts in SB III back in 1969. Got back to his hotel at 5:30 in the morning. Not saying that this is the lifestyle any player should emulate but he went out & played in the biggest game of his career. Manziel couldn't even make it to his last practice. I do like the line, "He might as well as throw a party because he can't throw a football'. LOL! At least get your facts right. He didn't skip a practice, he missed a treatment session for an injury. -
Well, you're wrong. Or you refuse to listen as per the changes in the CFL already. I( believe that we move too slowly compared to other teams. If you think that's impatience, then so be it. Okay Mike, you tell me how you think things should be done. I already told you mine at least twice. I could easily argue that Saskatchewan took far longer than we did to make one of their changes. Heck, they essentially stripped Hall of his duties roughly halfway through the year and still have yet to replace him. See how that works? I already told you how I assume things are going to be done and that works just fine for me. I'd rather they get it done right than get it done fast. If we can have both, great but I'm not going to cry about it if the process takes longer than I'd hope.
-
Yes. I am saying you're impatient. It's not as if this is an isolated incident.
-
It's not about impatience. It's about the people running the team taking so much time to make any kind of a decision on just about anything. We look indecisive. Or they don't seem to know what they want. Or there's a power struggle. Other organizations can make the correct personnel & coaching decisions a lot faster than us. Everyone is on the same page. Why can't we? You don't think other teams debate and try to get favourites brought in? Why is it when we do due diligence and try to find the right guy we are "indecisive" or in the midst of a "power struggle"? If we jump the gun then we look foolish for not doing the proper research.. Smh. Ever thought why we don't get the guy(s) we actually want? What's due dilligence? Are you saying the Bombers don't seem to know who Mike Benevides, Devonne Claybrooks, Khari Jones, George Cortez & Ritchie Hall already are? What they're like as people? How they'd fit in with the Bombers? I find that hard to believe. Like these guys all haven't run together on the same road in an 8 & then a 9 team league before with MOS & Walters? If this was the 32 team NFL, I could understand. I sure know that I want my coaching staff hired based upon whether or not I'd have a beer with them. I think in the past with head coaches here & elsewhere it's really come down to something as simple as that. So why would you essentially suggest that's what we do again? Didn't say that. There are ways to expedite the process & speed things up. Any organization can take as long or do it as fast as they want. I'm saying speed the process up because the best candidates will be gone soon. Can we just call a spade a spade and admit this really just boils down to your trademark impatience? It's the holiday season so news is going to be at a standstill and if the media reports are accurate, we've already met with Claybrooks, Benevides, Hall and possibly Barron Miles. Hell, we were meeting with candidates before we even made the firing official. It's not as if it's as simple as interviewing the guy to find out if he's interested. This is just an educated guess, but I would imagine O'Shea wants to know what a potential candidate would plan to run scheme-wise, how he assesses our current defensive personnel, how he feels about our ratio flexibility, how he views the free agent pool, how he assessed last year's defense, what his thoughts are as far as assistants go, what his practices would be like, how he likes to handle players, how he is on the whiteboard and the list goes on. Then after they compile all of that information, they have to go back and see if it fits with the current mantra within our staff. You can't learn all that from bumping into a guy on a road trip.

Ugly or Wonderful ... your gut hunch for 2015
Mike replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
My gut is telling me we're gonna play between 20-23 games of football in 2015. -

Have you seen a doctor or hospital for that concussion of yours? Their fanbase is embarrassingly low on iq, football knowledge or even common decency.. Yet Riderfans is probably the best fan forum out there for CFL discussion. It's actually the worst. Hive mind mentality at its finest. Not only do they all share the same opinions, they all use the same jokes and phrases over and over again. Anyone with a dissenting opinion is banned. Lots of discussion going on over there for sure but quantity definitely does not equal quality. I've been a member there for 4 or 5 years with thousands of posts based around dissenting opinions and I'm still free to post there. There's lots of crap there too, but it's a great place to talk football. They have their fair share of characters for sure.

I really was sold on Benevides until I read the reaction of Rider fans wanting Hall over him. What am I missing here?

Bombers make $4.5 million payment on stadium debt
Mike replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Isn't there some kind of event next year at the stadium that should make us some money? Some kind of annual thing where they give out some cup? -

Honestly ... the worst thing he did in all of this was make the comment about what he could learn from this incident, when he essentially responded "nothing". But I still love Manziel. -

I'm going with ... Enstrom - Bogosian Trouba - Stuart Byfuglien - Chiarot Chiarot likely not as effective with a guy like Clitsome or Pardy. But it does ask the question - is Byfuglien worth it as a third pairing guy?
-
Of all the wingers on waivers right now, I think the guy I'd want is Paajarvi
-
How can you say it was a below hutch standard performance and in the next breath say on 2 goals he had absolutely zero chance on? You are contradicting yourself. He made a lot of good stops I thinks Pav would have let in. Also there is controversy over the third minny goal...lots saying it didn't go in... Bunch of talk about nothing, imo. In this day and age, there's a 99.9% chance the right call is made regarding a situation like that.

Brandon Stewart won't be back with Ticats in 2015

I think you should just automatically lose your job when you get called out prior to a game and then still give up 3 touchdowns to the guy who called you out. -
Happy Holidays to everyone!

Indeed O'Shea's comments during the Etcheverry departure news conf suggest Drew Willy will be on a short leash.Huh? I assume you're joking.Me too.. I have a very hard time believing that we are even remotely considering moving on from Willy or short leashing the guy..And the fact that I watched the entire press conference and O'Shea didn't allude to Willy being on a short leash at all. What O'Shea said between 5 mins 30 and 6 mins 20 in that news conf is hardly a ringing endorsement of Bellefueille or Drew Willy. I just re-watched that part and I don't see how that could be interpteted as Willy being on a short leash. "I think the biggest issue is trying to find a defensive coordinator and how that affects the other staff members" "We started something with Drew Willy" "To be fair to Drew, if you keep changing coordinators on a quarterback, you can set him back" "We found a good young quarterback" "It's my preference to keep going" Seems pretty clear to me. Drew is obviously in the doghouse. You missed the part at 6 mins 3 secs where O'Shea quickly transitions away from endorsing just Drew Willy and reminds everyone that the Bombers have a stable of 4 good young QBs - as he puts it. And if you think about what he says regarding the OC position, he's actually saying if we had more experienced QBs then someone other than MB would be a viable option as OC. He's saying that it's not that MB is a great OC, just that bringing in a new system out would set back the development of the QBs. Obviously management talked about the option of a new OC. And what part of any of that is an indictment of Drew Willy?
-
It's funny that you mention this because I was thinking about this the other day. In my opinion, it's not the corner fade routes that need to go. It's that they really should not have had Romby Bryant being the one to run the majority of them.
