  1.

Was cotton at anyone else's camp last season or is he a new regime find?

Brand new. He was one of our only tailback prospects without any CFL experience whatsoever.

I'm pretty sure he was in Ticats camp last season.

edit: He never made it to main camp. He was cut after their mini-camp. I do remember hearing that he was a McManus find, and was again recommended to Walters by him.

Oh hey, look at that. I never knew that, I knew we had a back in mini camp Kendial Lawrence that was in a similar position.

  2.

Goossen and Morely seemed way more physical than Neufeld...

Riiiiight, cuz you were oh so much closer to the action then O'Shea was...

Why do people keep thinking our coaches are lying to us? Especially on a dumb **** situation like this??

    It's just an opinion.

That being said, I'm sure Floyd is probably not watching the same amount of game film as the coaches, so it'd probably be wise of him to defer to the experts who break down tape rather than rely on his opinion from slow motion replays.

  3. I wouldn't count out garvin as being a DI kick returner/rb/wr/db type.

Every time the guy has had a KO or Punt return, he's had pretty decent gains.

Which is all well and good except that every time he's on the field as a DB he's somewhat of a liability.

  4. Willie Mosesly played MIddle Linebacker in College

    http://www.ubbullrun.com/2014/5/20/5732474/willie-moseley-linebacker-winnipeg-bluebombers

Willie Moseley came to Buffalo as an All-District defensive end who, was slated by Turner Gill to play that postilion on UB's then 4-3 defensive set. In 2009, after one year as a red shirt, Moseley played in a hand full of games as a defensive end racking up three tackles, including one for a loss.

Then came the staff changes of 2010. The new staff dumped the old 4-3 defense and brought in their hybrid 3-4 defense. To help fill in at linebacker the coaches took the Athletic Moseley off the line and moved him to the outside linebacker spot. During 2010 he was parked right behind Khalil Mack. And that's kind of the way things stayed for a while.

Going into 2012 it looked as if Moseley would once again be depth behind Khalil Mack but once again Willie had an impressive spring. He got noticed by the staff and UB still had depth issues related to the scheme change. The immediate need was at inside linebacker. Moseley would be a starter but in the middle of a 3-4 defense.

I don't know whay he measures up to by CFL standards but one of Willies strenghts at Buffalo was moving around the defense to help with depth or production wherever we needed it..

Since you brought him up ... what was the book on Moseley in college? He seems to move well on the big field but the one thing I've been really underwhelmed with is his tackling. For a guy that size, he's sure had a hard time wrapping guys up.

  5. This guy is still acting as if he's going to sign with us. It's kind of comical actually.

I feel like he's just playing it up for all of his friends to try and seem like a big deal, don't really know what else it could be at this point.

    Travon Jones @TravonT1Jones

Agent said keep your phone on you don't want to agree to a deal with out you! At this point let's just agree and bring home a grey cup!!!

    Travon Jones @TravonT1Jones

    @Wpg_BlueBombers #T1C soon hold on!!!

If this guy IS for real, he's a bit of a moron. If he's not for real, it's almost sad in a way.

  6. IMO none of these cuts are really surprises.  What did Kenny Tate do at all?  He was given so many chances to make an impact.  Errol Brooks just doesn't have enough size or skill and I feel like we may DI Paris Cotton (looks like he's a good returner and RB).

My question is how they feel about Urutia, being that he has been given the same amount of chances as Kenny Tate to make an impact, and hasn't either.

I don't think we are going to DI Paris Cotton.

I think he's our feature back.

  7. Aaron Kelly gets no respect on this forum.  He catches everything that's thrown his way and I don't think any new receiver played well enough to take his job away.  They all had flashes but consistency was lacking.  Very pleased with the national prospects and the skill Carter and Feoli-Gudino showed in limited action, didn't notice Taylor Renaud as much.

    He dropped a gimme yesterday.

In fact yesterday was a typical Aaron Kelly game. One great play that sticks in the minds of fans and then everyone forgets how he was invisible the rest of the game (aside from a drop)

  8. Urrutia didn't really get a good shot in Calgary IMO.  Hall underthrew pretty much everything at him.  I liked his work vs Toronto, but we haven't seen him on a deep route in either game, which is kind of odd.

I'd think one of Urrutia or Kelly would be starting game 1, hopefully Urrutia.  Would be nice to give Willy at least one big target, otherwise Cory Watson is our only big body receiver.

I do like Jaymar Johnson though, when he hits the break in his routes he gets a ton of separation, he's very quick, hopefully the drops vs Toronto were an anomaly.

Bert Reed looked to have some attitude and hands, too bad we only saw him for about 5 minutes.  I would think Reed and Johnson are pretty good PR bets, and everyone else among the imports outside of them are outright cuts, Barnes, Kemp, Tarver, maybe Kelly if they take Urrutia over him.

I agree re: Urrutia. Bringing him back to the ball is not going to be his strength. Slants and deep routes.

Jaymar Johnson was a lot better against Calgary. He also turns 30 in less than a month, which I'm not a big fan of.

Bert Reed is honestly the guy I liked the most. But you're right in the sense that we need a big body. He is not that.

I think all things considered, I'd stick with Urrutia.

  9. Yeah just not enough depth to do that.

But our fifth receiver spot is iffy as it is.

If I'm picking our receivers right now, I'm going Moore, Denmark, Kohlert, Watson and ... I don't even know after that. Urrutia maybe? He had a few balls knocked out of his hands last night but I also don't really think they had him doing things that put him in a position to succeed. Jaymar Johnson? Great, but he's a slot not a wideout. Bert Reed wasn't bad either. I certainly wouldn't want Kemp or Barnes.

  10. In 2010 Etchevary's defence in Saskatchewan was dead last in the following categories.

Fewest first downs rushing, fewest yards net rushing, avg yards rushing per game, avg gain per rush, lowest pass % completed, most interceptions.

He was also second last in fewest points.

He was third last in net offence per game and avg yards offence per game. He was also third last in QB sacks with 38.

He does have decent stats against the pass(which I suspected from watching his defences in the past, and because of the way he lines everybody up), but it certainly doesn't make up for how terrible he is in every other area.

My "panic" Is not from the pre season games

You're also cherry picking a bit, but I'm sure you knew that. It's easy to say that Etcheverry's defense was weak in 2010 (especially their defensive line) after he lost a ton of personnel from the previous season.

And hey, they still went to the Grey Cup.

None of that makes him a great or even a good defensive coordinator, but cherry picking statistics that have everything to do with personnel that won't be wearing blue and gold makes little sense. Maybe for speculation. But to use it and try to prove anything definitively? Not likely.
