I know you won't stand for it. You jump on your soapbox any chance you get & constantly tell us how great Mack was. That no way this mess of a football team was HIS fault. Then you have the gall to get on my case because I dare criticize a player like Jade Etienne who has underperformed after 3 seasons? Somehow in yours & Mike's mind, criticism somehow equates with hatred which makes no sense. Then there's Mike who has a crazy looking picture of Tim Burke as his avy. How insulting is that? I haven't done anything close to that for Etienne other than say he's underperformed. Before you guys throw crap at other people both of you better look in the mirror first.

The fact that you'd try and make that claim again really goes to show that you haven't actually been reading what I've written. I have never gotten on a soapbox and told anyone how great Mack was, I have argued with people shitting all over everything guy did, there is a very big difference.

With regards to you and Etienne you were all over the guy before he even came to training camp, you were all over the guy because he was on the roster but never playing, that's not something to ***** at Etienne for, you have a lot of misguided anger, you should have been critical of the people putting him on the roster when he wasn't ready to be there but no you took every chance to slag the kid.

Yeah, so? Players get called out & criticized everyday. You slag Burke everyday. You've slagged Poblah & Buck. You're no better than me or anybody else here who has an opinion so get over it.

I slag Burke cause he's done something no one else has done, he's made me stop caring about this team. Slagging Poblah (well all i've said is he's not living up to the hype and seems to have iffy hands) and Buck was done after they had been given chance after chance and failed. I didn't criticize anyone immediately after being drafted just cause they were off the board.

oh and by the way, I *AM* better than everyone else here.

Nice you can say negative things about players & coaches but of course no one else can. What have I said about Etienne other than I think he is a bust & was overrated? I didn't attack him as a person.  It wasn't his fault Mack picked him so high but because all he did is set him up to fail. I just questioned why we'd draft a kid so not ready to play so highly as in a first round pick with a guy like Nate Coehoorn ready to be selected. I've never said anything else negative about him except as a football player. As far as #2 goes, no you're not. Not even close.

I think the point that Dave is making is that it's very easy to think that you legitimately dislike Etienne because you didn't even bother to wait and see him suit up before you started shitting all over him, you've had your mind made up on him from the minute we drafted him. In fact, I could draw a very similar parallel to that and the way you talk about Kyle Walters as he gets ready to potentially become our new GM. The way you hint at it in your posts makes me think that if we do hire him in the permanent role, it doesn't matter what he does because it's very obvious you don't think he's right for the job.

Your opinion (in my opinion) would hold a lot more weight if it didn't appear to be so based on your personal emotions and was instead based on information.

  2. I remember when MBB was launched and how happy everyone was that we finally had a site where forum discussion didn't eventually devolve into users attacking each other. Even the ones who are so much better than everyone else.

I'm sure we're all a little edgy given that the team blows.

    But yeah, you're right.

  3. I know you won't stand for it. You jump on your soapbox any chance you get & constantly tell us how great Mack was. That no way this mess of a football team was HIS fault. Nobody has ever said anything like that, it's like you've entirely directed your rage (and yeah, it IS rage) at Dave for saying something that you've created in your own mind.

  4. 17, all you crow about is how bad Burke is & what a hero Mack was. If only Bomber fans were patient. Mack had a plan. He never had a chance to see it through.

I'm pretty sure he's never said that, it's only people like you who imply that simply because he defends Mack from the UNFAIR criticism he takes.

Dave has never suggested Mack doesn't deserve criticism. He's simply suggested that he doesn't always deserve all of it.

  5.

But if there's a chance the interim GM won't be there then he doesn't have any business making deals because a bad deal can handcuff another GM. It's a Catch 22. So, make them permanent. Not a good situation the longer it goes on. All they truly are, are caretakers. That's all interim should be.

    Makes no sense.

There is no such thing as a "permanent" position. You have to let them make moves. To suggest otherwise is foolish.

And then they move on & others are left to pick up the pieces. That's what I don't like. That is what is scary to me here.

You mean they move on just like the "permanent GM" Taman did? Or how about the "permanent GM" Kelly? Maybe the "permanent GM" Mack?

No GM is permanent and every time one leaves, another one is left to pick up the pieces and build the team with their own vision.

The only thing that is implied by the title of "interim" is that Walters may have a shorter stay than the others.

  6. This is a crazy situation. You know yourself that every football executive has a different vision for how a team should be built. What Walters & Miller might think is a good move, the other guy coming in may not like the things that were done because he didn't do them. If they remove the interim & make both of them absolutely 100% responsible for the makeover of this team, then fine. But if not, then leave their mitts off of it until everyone knows where they stand. Wade... not Wayne... already says he's got other businesses to run that he can go back to if things don't work out. So, how do I interpret that?  Is this the job he really wants?? Can he give 100% & more to the team & the fanbase to turn things around? Do we want a President who while, may be a "football guy", may not be 100% totally focused on rebuilding this team because his other business interests take up his time? When someone takes a job like this upon himself & thinks it's a part time gig & he thinks he can juggle his other interests along with it, it kinda makes me nervous.

This team has to start making some huge choices soon. The fanbase is pissed off yet Miller seemed to barely acknowledge that in the interview. I just hope the situation we are in now at the management level turns out to be the right one.

Make both of them 100% absolutely responsible? How? There's no such thing. Mack was "absolutely 100% responsible" and his vision was different than that of the next guy. What good did that do? Walters is also "100% absolutely responsible" ... in the interim. It's almost as if you think he's going to treat this like his fantasy team on steroids or something. It's still serious work for him, he's auditioning for a full time CFL gig. The same way every CFL GM is auditioning for a full time NFL gig, if you really think about it. There's absolutely no way Walters is just going to goof around while he's the interim GM, he deserves the power to make the decisions he needs to make.

As for your comments re: Miller, I think you went way off in the wrong direction regarding context. What you're implying is not what he meant at all. What he meant was that obviously this is important to him. He was saying he could be off filling easier roles for more gratification and instead, he's here because he cares and wants to do this the right way.

  7. But if there's a chance the interim GM won't be there then he doesn't have any business making deals because a bad deal can handcuff another GM. It's a Catch 22. So, make them permanent. 8.

To those thinking Burke could have tackled the question of his staying better,

WIECEK: So when do you find out if you've got the job?

MILLER: My concern right now is doing what we need to do in the next month to six weeks because there's a lot that's going to happen unlike any other year.

That's how he should have answered it.

I think I like this Miller guy.

    From the exact same interview:

WIECEK: One of the tools available to the CEO of a struggling sports franchise to effect change is to fire the head coach. You've kept Tim Burke on despite his team's 2-12 record this season. Why?
MILLER: Because he's doing everything he can to turn it around with what he's been given.

I just assumed Miller meant with what God gave him, i.e. a poor set of coaching tools.

  9. To those thinking Burke could have tackled the question of his staying better,

WIECEK: So when do you find out if you've got the job?

MILLER: My concern right now is doing what we need to do in the next month to six weeks because there's a lot that's going to happen unlike any other year.

I think I like this Miller guy.

The way Miller talks makes me think that there is absolutely no way we will not acquire a QB in the period in between Grey Cup and the expansion draft.

  10. Here's the thing about Burke and his complaints regarding a lack of talent.

Similar talent was at least competitive under LaPolice. We may not have won a ton of games, but at least we felt like we had a chance to win. I watch this team now and all I can think is that they have absolutely no chance. Given that these are professional athletes competing against other professional athletes, you'd think we could at least put up somewhat of a fight.

To me, the main issue with this team is coaching. Top to bottom, they are doing absolutely nothing to improve the skillset of our roster. I can count on one hand the number of players we've had during the Delmonaco/Howell/Burke regime who have improved under their watch. Most of our imports seem to get worse the more they work with our coaches. Matthews came here and lit the world on fire, now he can't catch. Denmark was a ROY candidate, now he's a spare part who struggles to get open. Simpson played on instinct last year and seemed dominant at times, but struggled this year with our new offensive schemes. Our defensive backs, aside from Washington, seem to be getting worse. Ian Wild and Desia Dunn both debuted incredibly strong and now look mediocre (maybe a byproduct of our entire defense) ... in two years, they couldn't teach Alex Hall how to time his break well enough to avoid going offside. Mike Sims-Walker was highly touted enough to get his own press conference as a CFL rookie when he came here and now he can't even crack the lineup because Howell can't get through to him on the waggle. And don't even get me started on what our quarterbacks are doing in their development.

It's ridiculous. Our coaching is garbage. Talent level may be on the lower end but they could still produce a LOT better with some average coaches.

  11.

Why blame Etienne for being an under utilized asset? When put in a situation, as limited as it is he has made plays. Blame the staff not the player. Sure thing let him go and flourish elsewhere.

He may flourish & he may not like Chris Bauman. Etienne has started & gone entire games without a catch. Jabari Arthur is finally playing like everyone thought he could in Calgary. How long do you wait?

Considering you've been finding every excuse under the sun to not wait for him for almost 3 full years now, I find that comment to be pretty amusing.

  12. Two different trades. Two different players. Etienne is a Canadian receiver, I'll give you that. Not much else. Foster at least has talent & an upside. Etienne is a bust & at the very best has flatlined.

No offense but this is complete bullshit.

Etienne has upside for days, Foster has plateaued.

  13.

It would be worthwhile for some to listen to Walters' presser on the trade that was made, and an all around talk of the draft and how teams are talking to him and talks are back on with Henoc's agent, etc. etc

    Walters:

I'm quite confident that with our second round pick we would not have been able to get a player of Neufeld's quality....

this is around the 12:00 minute mark and should ease some angst among us.

    http://bluebombers.com/video/index/id/90791?autostart=true

Sounds like he's channelling the spirit of Joe Mack...the spirit, or the ineptitude...one of the two.

Seriously, that comment sounds like he's trying to sidetrack the fact that he lost a 2nd round pick.  It's like "aw, the second round picks were **** anyway, so I thought I'd just throw this in for good measure".  I'm losing faith in this guy quick.  He's trying to make trades just to appease the fans.  "Oh look everyone...he's doing something...he got rid of Buck (for a shitty receiver) and now he got us a second rate Olineman...WOOHOO...he's teh Aw3s0mE!!!ONE1111".  So far, the only person he's brought in that seems to be worth ANYTHING is Kelly.  Foster, Boltus, Sims-Walker, DeAngelis...all crap.  And how many NFL cuts stuck around, other then Sims-Walker?

To be fair, I think your expectations of what he should be doing mid-season are a little high. I would say the best thing Walters has done is purge some of the useless assets our team has to set us up in a better position to compete next year. His goal was never to compete seriously this year.

  14. Here's a list of 2nd round draft picks over the last several seasons...

    2013 -

Charles, Stefan Robertson, Kristopher Haidara, Seydou Junior D'Aguilar, Ben Shahin, Hosam Urban, Brent Jones, Brett Gabriel, Jermaine

    2012 -

Laing, Cleyon Plesius, Frédéric Lavoie, Patrick Hurl, Samuel Rockhill, Carson Capicciotti, Justin Stephen, Courtney

    2011 -

Petrus, Moe O'Neill, Hugh Butler, Craig Forbes, Maurice Lopez, Hugo O'Donnell, Matthew Barrette, Anthony Turner, Junior

    2010 -

Sisco, Jordan Watson, Cory Gore, Shawn Shaw, Grant Borhot, Saleem Allen, Taurean Ihekwoaba, Chima Dublanko, Curtis

    2009 -

Lambros, Matt Hinse, Gordon Sterling, Dee Hinds, Ryan Bedard, Martin Singer, Matt Black, Tristan George, Tamon

So really out of this complete list maybe 20% of the players ever made the team and really how many would you say are greatly better then Neufeld?

The Canadian Draft is a complete crap shoot like I said before,   people make this out to being like the NFL draft where the first 4 rounds almost guarantees that the player will have a complete NFL career.

Walters made the right move,  Neufeld can play NOW and while he is average,  that alone is better then crap like Boatman and Morley at this point in time.   O-linemen usually peak later in their career, so why not try the guy out and maybe he will gel and have a half decent career.

I just find it funny that people are in an outrage and think that we got royally raped in the bum,   I don't see Robertson lighting it up for the Blue and he was a 2nd round pick... what about that Aaron Hargreaves fellow that Taman drafted in the 2nd round he really lit it up didn't he!

It's actually over 50% so maybe you should brush up on your player knowledge.

  15. im truly stunned that the concept of not caring, not watching, not paying attention are even being discussed, let alone acted upon.

its the bombers for christ sakes, the reason for this forum.. shitty, embarrassing or horrendous to bare thru, its our football team we claim to be fans of and love so much..

The fact that you say we "claim" to be fans implies that some of us are not meeting what your definition of a "fan" would be, which annoys me.

Just because I'm not willing to let the Bombers run their team like garbage and be accepting of it does not make me any less of a fan.

  16. This trade would be a win if it was Hall and our 4th for Neufeld...  but this second rounder really is a killer.  Everyone can **** all they want that its a 'thin' draft... and then we'll see if the 11th pick overall is playing ST or maybe starting next year.  I bet we could have found a pretty decent LB/ST player to instantly replace James Green/Dubuisson.

Draft an OL with 2nd and a good ST maybe backup LB with the 11th... too late now.

This isn't the final step, back off from the ledge.

There are clearly going to be more moves coming.

  17. I'm not a fan of this move. Trading Hall makes us worse In the interim, and I don't see how acquiring another mediocre NI tackle who likely won't play his way ahead of January or Jarvis Jones, makes us better in the future. Plus we came out on the back end of the pick swap? Bad trade.

It would have cost us nothing to lose him in free agency. Instead we paid out to Saskatchewan. Shitty deal all around.

    Oh no!

Now instead of losing every game for the rest of the year, we might lose every game for the rest of the year!

  18. I disagree that Hall has no value to the Bombers, he was one of the only reasons to watch this team currently, How do you value that? I put quite a bit of value on it. At least watching one of our players try and win the sack race was something to tune in for. This whole idea that some people are pushing that Hall was worthless is fantasy to me. If we can't get anything decent in return then keep him for the year, let him try the NFL in the offseason and if he doesn't make it maybe all the changes here convince him to come back, but as soon as you trade him he's gone for good.

I don't necessarily agree, although I admit it's very likely.

  19. My real concern in all this is that we just gave away a 2nd round pick that could have been packaged for a QB.  Now really we only have the 2nd pick overall to offer... or Muamba - hopefully not both...

We started shopping Hall for a 2nd round pick and a neg list player... we ended up paying more than we got - whether Hall is a rental or not.

If Walters holds out until Wednesday, I just think Taman would have blinked, he's dying for a cup.

Neufeld is not going to change this team.

... or picks in 2015. Or other assets.

A lot of people seem to think they know what our 'assets' are and what other GMs want from us. Who really knows.

  20. Lots of people having a strange reaction to this trade in all honesty.

First of all, no big surprise that Hall didn't have the value some thought he did. He's got no term left and he's made it pretty clear that he wants to try the NFL. Not only is he a rental, I'd be surprised if Saskatchewan could afford the pay day it'd take to resign him. I think he's back in the CFL next year but I don't think it's with the Riders.

Neufeld isn't a terrible offensive lineman but he certainly does suck at guard and as odd as it sounds, we suddenly have a mediocre logjam of NI talent at right tackle. Hopefully Pencer translates to guard. This probably means we don't protect Swiston from Ottawa now.

Reasons the draft pick means very little to me ... this is a pretty thin draft with the new eligibility rules so trading out of 2014 and into 2015 works for me. Not a huge fan of the two round drop but to me, that's what you pay for getting a 24 year old NI lineman who is signed through 2015.
