  1. Walters sounds impressive but then so did Joe Mack when he got hired. If Kyle is going to be kept around anyway & he knows others will be interviewed & he seems fine with that then why throw him into the fire when he could benefit from working under someone else for a few years yet? I'm tired of inexperienced people being hired because they're somebody's buddy, the powers that be like him or to save money. For once.... ONCE... hire the best experienced guy with the most solid track record available & be done with it. Don't take shortcuts.

I just want to point this out for you ...

Kyle Walters was on the job for less than 24 hours on an interim basis and you're already complaining about him.

Am I the only one who sees something wrong with that? I mean come on Iso, "Why throw him into the fire"? What are we supposed to do? Run our club without a general manager until the end of the year? We're not going to hire one midseason. This isn't a shortcut at all, it's a necessary shuffling of job responsibilities in order to get some stability in our front office.

I just think it's absolutely ridiculous that Walters has yet to do anything and you're already doubting him for no apparent reason. Talk about making your mind up a bit early.

  2. It was posted elsewhere that most of the CEOs in the league have little connection the CFL, yet alone in playing. Why do the Bombers need that when other teams don't?

I'm not saying he won't be good in the role -- I'm just saying it seems like an arbitrary request given the make-up of other teams (including the successful ones).

Let me spin this around and ask it the other way.

If you can get a CEO with an incredible business background AND connections within the league, why would you not want that additional benefit?

  3. Watching on my phone ...

Miller initially seems more comfortable speaking to the media.

I like that Walters is going to be around no matter what. He's a solid front office guy and despite his apparent shortcomings as a special teams coach, he knows the CFL and he knows the CIS.

Glad Moll is going to stick around, although I expect that will only be until the end of the year. Interesting to hear about Drew Morris too. Midwest scouting is huge in the CFL, glad we have a dedicated bird dog in there.

Interesting to hear that he evaluates talent on other teams for future years.

Re: Muamba ... glad he's a top priority. I think based on Walters' answers, we get him locked up. Probably late though.

As I'm watching this ... I'm starting to get a sense that there is a solid plan here. It's going to be messy to get it underway, but I like the vision Walters and Miller seem to have.

Laughing as Miller says "proper people are making the right decisions ... NOW"

As much as I hate it, I'm getting the sense that Walters would keep Burke as head guy. But I like Walters ... might be torn on this as the year goes on. I do not like Burke. But Walters seems like a smart guy with a vision.

I have a feeling the media is going to like Walters. But I have a feeling they're not going to like Miller ... but they'll respect him.

  4. Pretty crazy how much Walters looks like Jim from the office.

THAT is who you think he looks like from The Office?

  5. http://www.sportsnet.ca/football/cfl/ticats-coach/

    Honestly do not remember that.

I remember a good DC getting elevated to HC and wondering why he would bother. Then realizing that it was his best bet for some job security because if he didn't take the HC role, the new HC would bring in all his own coaches anyway and he'd be looking for work.

I don't remember him be touted as HC material before Lapo's firing. If he was, show me.

  6. Don't let Irrational lawless hate cloud the reality here. No reason for Lawless to lie and he said it while trying to make a point and didn't want to dwell on it but his co-host insisted on discussing it.

I don't have trouble believing Burke wanted Glenn. And that doesn't mean he dislikes Buck. He just felt Glenn was better.

I could see Mack feeling all things being equal Buck was better (and I don't disagree with him necessarily when Buck was healthy). His "fixing the QB position" was giving Crowton full control and an off season to plan an offence to suit Bucks skillset.

What I find odd is that Burke keeps saying everyone was in agreement about hall but that the discussion was heated. When I agree with people those conversations are never heated. I sort of think Burke was the lone voice against this move and that's where the heat came from.

Burke is smart. If hall lights it up, Burke is the head coach with wisdom enough to trust his OC. If Hall is terrible, Burke just gave Crowton all the rope he needs to hang himself.

I'm torn here, because I don't doubt that Burke doesn't want Hall to play. But as he will readily admit, he knows nothing about the offense.

So our toughest decision SHOULD be made by our head coach. But he knows nothing about how to make that decision, which he readily admits.

    So what do we do?

    Ugh.

  7. I wonder how many orgasms Friesen had in his pants while writing this latest nugget....

    http://www.winnipegsun.com/2013/08/12/bombers-justin-goltz-feels-betrayed-at-demotion

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers returned to practice a picture of dysfunction Monday.

A new starting quarterback — the third one already this season — and new offensive consultant were easy to spot.

Who’s making the decisions is another story.

First, the decision to make Max Hall the starting quarterback for Friday’s game against Hamilton, demoting Justin Goltz to No. 3 after just two starts.

“I don’t know who made the call,” a visibly shaken Goltz said. “You ask around and nobody can give you a straight answer.

“I definitely feel betrayed at this point.”

Veteran Buck Pierce, now No. 2 on the depth chart, was shaking his head, too.

“I have no idea who’s making any kind of calls anymore,” Pierce said. “I stopped trying to figure it out. I’ve been in this league a long time ... and it’s a first.”

Not even Hall could say who made him the starter.

Only when head coach Tim Burke spoke did the answer come. And it’s not the one you’d expect.

Burke washed his hands of the decision, saying he left it up to the offensive coaches, led by co-ordinator Gary Crowton.

“I’m going to leave it up to them,” Burke said. “I stated my opinion, but I’m not going to handcuff them. That’s not my job.

    “My expertise is on defence.”

As for the hiring of longtime CFL coach Marcel Bellefeuille as a consultant for the offence, Burke said that wasn’t just his call, either.

New CEO Wade Miller was involved. In fact, Bellefeuille said it was Miller who called him on the weekend.

Burke said he, Miller, and assistant GM Kyle Walters are making the football decisions. Well, at least the ones not involving the quarterbacks.

“I’m the head coach and I’m doing my job to the best of my ability,” Burke said. “Wade’s not dictating anything. So far it’s been us three making the decisions.”

As for his two confused quarterbacks, Burke said they’re understandably upset but will get over it.

Both Goltz and Pierce say the pressure to win is causing knee-jerk reactions.

“There’s a lot of pressure with a lot of people’s jobs,” Goltz said.

“Everybody’s trying to search for a fast fix. And I don’t think one person’s going to come in and turn around our offence. There’s a lot of pieces that need to be fixed.”

    Burke .....

  8. Just handing the job to Burke was the single biggest mistake Joe Mack ever made. That 52-0 labour day game and the one 2 weeks later were enough for me to say "yeah this guy isn't a good option at head coach" let alone that stupid ******* punt call in the banjo bowl. Then he goes and tells the world it's PIerce as his qb and only PIerce cut the guys with experience. Just one mistake after another.

"Joey Elliott is a turnover machine"

"Demond Washington will never return punts for this club again"

"If Buck Pierce wasn't such a nice guy, we wouldn't keep him around"

"I sometimes forget what to do in certain game situations, so I write down notes on a cheat sheet"

It goes on and on and on.

  9. C'mon Mike.  I asssume you have a job and you have probably had other jobs before the one you have now.  You know full well the differences between a well functioning organization and a porrly functioning one.  That is the most optomistic interpretation of what happened here.  This thing is in shambles right now.  It's impossible to tell who's in charge of what and obvious the head coach is not in carge of things the head coach should be in charge of.  Like who's coaching the offense.  And who's playing quarterback.

It may be "optimistic" to you, but to me it's just realistic.

It's a phone call. Who cares who made it? Everything is a **** show without having to worry ourselves about who called Marcel B.

  10. Didn't the team already confirm that Burke hired Marcel? Now marcel says it was Miller?

If this was seasons end I'd be endorsing a complete disniss of every single member of the coaching staff. What a joke.

This is beyond Kelly and Reinbold.

When does a team ever confirm to the public which individual was responsible for the hiring of another individual?

As far as Wade being the one to call Marcel goes, it's such a non-issue. Who cares? Maybe Burke said to him, "hey Wade, I'm too busy to audition offensive assistants, can you find out if there are any available?" and Miller obliged. Who knows? Who cares? They're all working as one unit and if Burke wanted an offensive assistant (which he did) and Miller got him one, then it's not meddling so who really cares.
