Because Bailey goes from the 3-5 read to the 1-3 read. Ofcourse we’ll have to find another receiver to come in to replace Baileys role with the team but we should have some faith that Walters has Danny Mac will have some competition coming in to be that receiver number five.

My point is Bailey was already better than Adams and used more frequently than Adams last year. Bailey, to me, has been our WR2 for an entire year now.

The question is really whether he can elevate to a WR1 and I’m hopeful he can but that doesn’t mean that it’s an upgrade over Lawler. While I had no interest in paying it, there’s a reason he got 300k - he’s the best receiver in the league.

Well let’s put it this way. Lawler was pretty much regarded as high as Bailey is right now before the season started. Not saying every good young receiver will turn out as good as Lawler was for us last season but he has the potential to be a number one guy.. Ellingson is much ahead of Adam’s in terms of production so while yes Lawler and Adam’s might be better right now it’s not far fetched to believe these two actually put produce what Adam’s and Lawler would give you.

I don’t really understand the comparison in any format because the premise suggests we are replacing our American WR3 with our American WR2. Adams is being replaced by a rookie, it’s more or less a straight swap Ellingson for Lawler and that’s a downgrade period. You can say Bailey would be an upgrade, but what does that matter if he was here either way.

yeah...I have full confidence in our scouting network now to replace and reload..5 yrs ago nope...now...no concerns

And you cant continually stay status quo and continue to win...we did that for 2021...2022 we keep the keys...and reload..re-tool..Ellingson/Bailey is a upgrade to Lawler/Adams in the grand scheme....Maston will ore than adequately replace Darby...Darby was brought in to replace Maston...no concerns there...

Harris leadership and heart will be missed, but I bet at end of the yr we are either number 1 or 2 in rushing again

And hands down we still have the best O-line and with Davis leaving the cats..we still have best dline....and we are missing only Alford and BA (till likely Aug) in the defensive backfield who started the Grey Cup

Let’s be honest, saying Ellingson/Bailey is an upgrade over Lawler/Adams is a bunch of homer nonsense no matter how you slice it lol  you literally said yesterday you weren’t happy with the idea of Ellingson

Not even accounting for that, there’s still the obvious that in that equation, we’ve now replaced Bailey with ?????????

I guess I had it in my head that ever half decent player in the league would be fighting with each other for the chance to come to Winnipeg, and nobody'd ever want to leave, and we'd have our pick of every FA because this is the only place people want to play. I just hate seeing people choose a different team over us...

    Pipe dream, man.

Think about it. They’ve already got rings. No ring chasers here and the truth is, some guys want the money or the opportunity they can’t have here.

Lets just call it what it is. No American player grows up wanting to win a Grey Cup. The whole idea of passing on money is great in theory but no way is every single player going to think like that.

hmmm...moving on from harris....and adams.....theres overt 300k of unaccounted salary there from last year....maybe we do come in with a 225..250k deal for Lawler....the fact he hasnt accepted any of those deals yet says more than it doesnt....would I like that..no...but maybe it is what it is now salary wise

Doesn’t really say a whole lot given that the legal tampering period is over

well....I hope it was a case of dogcrap play around him, rather than decline...if he is still legit 1000 yard threat then maybe it is a good swap....he seemed to lack superstation last yr tho...maybe it was just the meh of being there haha

I’d honestly rather have Ellingson than Derel Walker. Or pretty much anyone left.

I was hoping to see us get Acklin or Weineke, and obviously I’m writing Lawler off and would rather we bring him back than any of them but yeah … I’m a fan of Ellingson. Dude was 8th in the league in receiving last year.

Wouldn’t be opposed to a dude like Josh Huff either

  7. Am I taking crazy pills? What would be upsetting about swapping Adams for Ellingson?

I love me some Darvin, but Ellingson can still go. He had 68.7 yards per game last year with some absolute dogshit quarterbacking. Adams had around two thirds of that with league best QB play.

I would be happy to see us sign Ellingson. Ellingson, Bailey, Demski, Wolitarsky and a rookie like Agudosi or Blake Jackson? Sign me up.

I 100% agree but maybe the tides are turning.

Lawler obviously worked out. Bailey showed growth even with the year off, and maybe McKnight can show similarly in year 2.

Receivers always come out in year 2 or 3, so maybe we finally have a little pipeline happening.

True. Looking forward to Bailey in year 3 a LOT but he’s basically the only receiver these guys have to their credit.

Not concerned at all,   maybe he has a few guys on his radar that he wants to bring into the league.   Receivers and RB's are a dime a dozen and not the position that you have to over pay  to bring an older guy in.    Plus if he wants a vet presence why not bring back Adams?

Yeah I mean after all, we’ve had such great success bringing in receivers.

I will never say anything negative about Walters’ body of overall work, but this regime has proven by now that they can’t find receivers to save their life.

  10. Micah Johnson isn’t a huge loss, but Purifoy leaving creates a void. They’re going to be a very young team next year, they’ve got some pieces here and there but they’ve having trouble retaining guys and you don’t hear them in on a lot of players either.

One of two things is happening. Either the machine in Regina is doing a very good job of making sure their plans don’t leak to the media or the Riders aren’t a desirable team to play for anymore. Money still talks but they used to be able to sell players on the atmosphere, the fans, the building, the program and it looks like a lot of that goodwill is gone.
