  1. rightly so. You don't need 10 wins to make the playoffs, you need to win the right games. Being 1-5 against the west division thus far certainly doesn't get you into a playoff position. That doesn't make any sense considering that we're on track to miss the playoffs at 9-9. Less wins against the East and more against the West and maybe 9-9 would get you in.
  2. Every time we try a screen pass and the blocks are so pathetic, I die a little inside. The blocks can be weak at times but I blame how predictable our screen plays are to defend. It's really hard for them to block when the defenders have already keyed in on the guy with the ball before he has the ball.
  3. It's not the OC's job to create schemes to get players "open" in space, it's really all on the receiver. Any good DB isn't going to let you get open in space early, unless there is a breakdown in coverage. If that happens then it's the receiver's job to find that space. No OC can predicate their scheming based on this happening. Getting open typically happens for a second or two and if the receiver can time it at the right moment to break off and lead himself to where the ball is being thrown. Good DBs will track good route-running receivers no matter where they go on the field.
  4. At the beginning of the season we were doing a great job of spreading the ball around to different receivers and the route patterns looked like they were being run with good timing so that receivers were where they needed to be at the right times. It looked to me like the patterns were designed to compliment each other. Now it looks like we're trying to force throws into places where the receiver's body control hasn't been maintained being pushed of his route in some way or where keys blocks haven't been established. We are also very poor at execution is some packages. Our basic screen package is horrid and we often loose yards when tossing wide side to Grigsby or Denmark because the defenders break away quicker than we can block them.
  5. Poor adjustments at half with Brohm being the QB were part of the problem. I am thinking we tailor the offensive game plan a little more if he is indeed going to start against Hamilton. Need more emphasis on the run. I was really surprised that we pretty much abandoned it in the second half against BC despite being in it for most of the time. I'd give us more than a 51% chance at beating Hamilton at home with Brohm, provided that his receivers actually get open, and we can get Grigsby moving a little more.
  6. Good god, for the love of everything sane, this would make no sense for either team.
  7. You can't permanently fix an injury like he had with surgery and rehab. You can only get him as good as he'll get in the hope that nothing re-aggravates it during play. It's a shame that it happened so soon.
  8. If the Riders' stats were reversed (196 yards passing, 107 yards rushing), maybe this thread isn't even started.
  9. http://cfl.uploads.mrx.ca/wpg/pdf/depth/2014/Depth091748.pdf No surprises. Moore & Wild off. I wonder who of Kromah & Kuale will see more snaps. Hopefully it's Kromah.
  10. The problem with that is the Riders can still exploit you through the air. It would be different if they were a pure one-dimensional team, with no receiving threat. Even then I would be hesitant to load up the middle. 9 up front means only 3 in coverage.
  11. Get them into BMO field and a lot of things will be better. Is that over-simplifying things? MLSE is looking for financial contributions in terms of loans, not grants. MLSE wants to pay the funds back. The various levels of government need to iron this out and make it happen. You can't have the nation's largest city without a team in the CFL.
  12. Must win, if you want to try and keep pace with the Rider/Esks for 3rd or possibly 2nd. Definitely not a must win for a playoff berth. Sweeping the next two games against BC would go a long way to securing that.
  13. At 6-4, Winnipeg is the only team in the West having played 10 games with 8 games remaining, 6 of which are against other Western teams. vs SSK @ BC, vs BC vs CGY, @ CGY @ EDM East: vs HAM and @ OTT In my opinion, 10 wins likely will get you at least 4th in the West. It's no secret that there is a well above average chance that there will only be two teams from the East making the playoffs, with a West team crossover. Having said that, we have SSK this week at home and then away @ BC next week. We are likely battling BC for fourth, so our 2 remaining games against them are crucial. Ideally, if we can snag a win this week and even if we lose one in Vanny the games against Ottawa and Hamilton which are back to back are going to determine if we need to steal a game from Calgary or Edmonton. The most most important game on the remaining schedule is when we host BC October 25th. This will likely determine the season series who as victor will probably be the crossover team. Beating Calgary at home in our final game may be a hard task considering Calgary will still be playing for 1st. We finish the season with the bye, so I am hoping we've controlled our own destiny by then and are not having to watch by the TV hoping X and/or Y happen just to get in. Whatever team that does crossover, it could get interesting.
  14. He played mostly OLB in high school but has played primarily DE since then. Decent speed, probably a little erratic.
  15. A bit of a lame question, but can someone please inform me why they are referred to as the "Green & Gold"? It's called "yellow".
  16. In other words MOS has to stop thinking like a defensive coach & make sure his qb is protected at all time. Every team I've been with & the pro practices I have seen let the qb throw the football & never lay a hand on the guy or come close enough to touch him. Even if the qb is "sacked" on a play when they scrimmage. In other words, when it's obvious protection broke down & in a game the qb would have been sacked he still throws the pass & finishes the play. I know defensive coaches & players have a different perspective on the game from their offensive counterparts & have their motors running all the time but they can't hurt their qb in practice. Part of the process of learning on the job for MOS. From what I understand, Willy hit his hand on a helmet during his follow-through, the defender didn't actually hit him in any way. Unamba got too close. Never should have happened. Guys are expected to play at full speed during practice. Willy's follow through would probably extend his arm a couple of feet in front of him. If whomever it was that was trying to block Unamba couldn't hold him up, Unamba's momentum could have easily carried him into that radius. It's not about playing "too close". It was a freak accident. If we want to make sure the QB is protected at all times from everything during practice, he needs to be playing in a bubble. Which would make it very hard to throw the ball to anyone.
  17. I personally like the pants with the writing on the side. Unique in it's own way. I kind of wish this was the theme of each team's uniform design.
  18. Way more than that if what iso said about Glenn Suitor is true. Desjardins was reportedly offering $250k, not pro-rated for this season. Not factoring any signing bonus, thats upwards of $27k/game for 9 games. According to Madani, Riders final offer was $200k ($190k salary, $10k bonus) pro-rated, meaning for 9 games, half a season thats $95k + the $10k bonus =$105k, or $11.6k/game for 9 games. Less than half. It's more like he left $145k on the table, which seems completely crazy. At least this is how I am understanding it.
  19. Arash Madani (@ArashMadani) The final #Riders offer to Weston Dressler was a ONE-year, pro-rated deal worth about $200,000 (base salary about $190k, with a bonus). #CFL
  20. Arash Madani (@ArashMadani) BREAKING: Have learned Weston Dressler, the most-sought after #CFL free agent in years, has come to terms w/ the #Riders on a ONE-year deal.
  21. Wade is a very business-regimented person. He has dealt with personnel for a long time. An acquaintance of mine who is a Bison alumni, has told me that Wade can rub people the wrong way sometimes with his business style and approach to things that he is involved in. The fact that is that it was Wade and Bell that didn't see eye-to-eye, and that doesn't surprise me in the least. It doesn't make the decision a bad one either.
  22. If they sign Green, I think the need for Dressler becomes less important.
  23. Bombers: 2-2 at home, 25.25 PF 24.5 PA Alouettes: 0-3 on the road, 8 PF 28.6 PA Any team right now that you could face at home after a 2-game slump it would probably have to be the Als.
  24. That burning sensation will go away eventually. Or you'll just get used to it.
  25. They will be wearing their new jerseys for the labour day game.
