Fair comment. He was indeed a rare talent. Far too many great talents did not win a GC while wearing Bomber colours. Top 3:
1. Milt Stegall
2. Charles Roberts
3. Doug Brown
It's most often a lack of education, which leads to the default position of mistrusting those who are educated, especially 'white collar professionals.' There are enough naturopaths, chiropractors, et. al. who are borderline anti-vax and strengthen those views. And no, they are not only found on social media
Ricky Ray for sure. IIRC Damon Allen's OLs in Toronto were not that great. But that's a whole other story - those were the days of the outstanding Stubler Defenses.
Ever since Edmonton made that 'stupidest trade of all time with Toronto' it has some how become an accepted fact - that Ray is not that good
It's ridiculous - first off, he played behind subpar Offensive Lines for most of his career in Edmonton - similar to Mike Reilly
I don't know what's up with the Elk's / Esk's recent history of shitty QB protection
I can't remember the year - but Ray passed for 5000 yards - playing behind an abysmal offensive line and no rushing attack to speak of
I remember Flutie torching the Bombers in the Reinbolde era - with something like an 85% completion percentage. Knuckles gave up and just started gushing about Flutie.
That's fair. I just always lean more towards the ball control QB.
And no, BLMs more effective ball control is not just because of the system Calgary uses.
Reilly is just less of a ball control QB - that's just who he is and how he plays.
Some people would say they don't want their QB playing that way, due to injury risk.
But then, the guy who has played more cautiously and always had a good OL - is currently the one on the shelf
It's just interesting how these things unfold.
When they're both healthy, I would take BLM over Reilly - any game, any day.
I simply dislike a heavy reliance on 50/50 balls. And one thing Reilly did have in Edmonton...elite receivers.
It's not that complicated - the Stamps can cut Bo or reneg his contract - if Meier keeps on playing well
Plus the Lawler TD - IMO that's worst call so far this season.
With a few more games experience - Maier makes some of those plays - that's all I was saying.
There were some missed opportunities for huge gains. I think a guy like ZC or BLM behind centre would have capitalized.
One TD or another chip shot FG = a win
In that case, they will extend him during the season.
I am happy we played him 2 weeks ago. With a few more games under his belt - he would have beaten the Bombers.
Maybe. We will see. I actually thought Calgary would win yesterday, when they were leading 20 - 17. But they had no answer for the Esks' running or passing attack - 15 unanswered points in the last half of the 4th quarter.
The punt return by Hammy was actually a deep punt with good hang time, but several guys could not beat their block - excellent execution by their return team.
