I quit after they told me I wasn't allowed to touch home. That seems like a bit of an overreaction... Too many years just playing pick up, I guess.

Both sides of the argument are true...it's a matter of perspective.

I for one, thought Burke would be a good head coach. But I guess not every coordinator is.

I'd put that as Problem #1B. His biggest problem was a completely delusional approach to roster management (QB and free agency in particular). Huffer & Trestman wouldn't have made the playoffs with that sad sack line-up. Well, maybe they'd have coached them into the semis, but theres no way in hell they'd post a winning record. Yet Lapolice coached them to a grey cup game... Not buying that the roster was THAT far gone that a good coach couldn't have squeezed something out of it because we saw Lapo get something out of those guys, even if not for a long time and I don't think Lapo was all that great of a coach. Buck was mostly healthy, so he got at least average Quarterback play. They still had Labatte...OL was better. Outstanding talent on the DL, who were the real difference makers in the East final. The Hammy never had a prayer against that front in those conditions. ST's generated plenty of big plays that season. So I beg to differ on your talent comparison.

It's funny how often a football article is written along the same lines as what is currently being discussed here. Here's a nugget from today's freep: "Too many times in 2013, this team was defeated before it stepped on the field, due to superior tactical coaching by its opponents." ~Doug Brown~

Yep, you can't even get an Argos' beer cup. The only sign that there's an Argo game on as you approach the facility is the few fans that sport Argo gear.

I remember Don Matthews going for two when kicking a convert would have tied the game. He decided to go for the win right then and there...and lost.
-
- people don't blitz in pre-season games - import tackles who can actually play are very rare - let's recycle some more kickers...to gain two net yards on each kick off
-
You want to be very careful with that...they might blitz...

I should clarify: I'm referring to 2nd and two or 2nd and three. I can see why teams would run some shotgun in that scenario. And dare say a regular FB isn't coming back any time soon. But I agree that it's a good option and could even help the ratio.
-
There must be a reason why teams hand off five yards deep on short yardage. Maybe it's because shotgun is used 99% of the time in the CFL. When you do line up under centre, the D knows a short yardage play is coming. IMO it's like running the ball every time you have two tight ends out there. After a while it works against you.

Merry Christmas! If you don't have to travel East...be thankful!

They have better Canadian content than some other teams...with decent scouting down south they could do pretty well. People keep waiting for Glenn to turtle when he gets pressured. But he's one of the best in the league at reading and reacting to blitzes. If the guys they drafted with bum knees and concussion issues return to the peak of their careers, you could have a discussion on that point. In reality, no chance. The Bombers' Canadian content has just as many and maybe more question marks. The safety position, the need for two American OL with an already challenged ratio, not the greatest talent at centre / guard, lack of depth behind Henoc Muamba.

So who got bent over the worst by the Exp Draft?
Mark H. replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
wow just wowSadly, he does have a point.. Goltz, brink and elliott all seemed stagnant and not really developing at all as it was... Chicken or the egg... -
Didn't Gibson run our '07 offense that everyone figured out after labour day?

Ottawa is better at QB 'right now.' However, their QB moves up to this point have given us a better chance of signing Collaros. They have Glenn and several decent veteran OL. Whether or not that's better than what we have depends on how well Collaros performs and how well our young OL continue to develop. I don't think they're better at any other positions. -
As has been pointed out, MB was OC in Montreal in 2007 - the year AC left the team to be with his wife while she was battling cancer and the year they had Charlie Carpenter as oline coach and the Als oline gave up the most sacks by far (65). A.C. played in over two thirds of the game that year (13). That OL had among other perenial all-star and potential hall of famer Scott Flory.A.C., Cahoon, Watkins, Edwards, Flory is a pretty good base of talent to work with. Doesn't mean they were good in 2007. Scott Flory was the only Als' olineman named to the Eastern all-star team that year. The biggest difference between 2007 and 2008 was a change in the blocking schemes. They were bad in 2007. Agree. I remember one play in particular, when Tom Canada sacked Calvillo on a two point convert attempt. They were in slide protection...he hid behind one of the linemen and charged in for the sack after they 'slid' past.

Please, when Cowher was coach of the Steelers that was his phrase of choice when they screwed up. And you saw it every time. I think he said the F word about 15 times after a screw up. They'd pan the camera to him and you could see exactly what he was saying "WTF WAS THAT" or just a big ol' "AW F***!!" I miss Bill. Naw, that was Bill chewing on a deodorant stick...

Really???? Lol dumbest post of the year here! The internet is now black magic? Who reads actual newspapers anymore I thought everyone reads the web versions now? Not sure about 'dumbest' but some peoples' reaction is the 'funniest'

For crying out loud! This is a 3 -15 team we're talking about...if Burris is available...of course they should take him! How about we bloody get to the playoffs first...and then worry about whether or not our QB will win a playoff game.

"punishing you for short **** over the middle" doesn't sound like the hallmark of a Stubler D to me. like i said, our great Stubler Ds that we had (and they were perhaps the best i've ever seen. ever) were the sort that were in the middle of the league for yardage allowed but first (by a fair margin) in points against... also were able to count on a defensive TD every other game. it was sick how much our weak offence could skate by because our D and ST would always chip in a bonus TD for them. the forums back then were funny because some teams' fans wanted to keep our offence on the field when they were ahead against us... because our offence was less likely to score a TD than our D was. I have to agree with you on this. A Stubler D will focus on preventing big plays and passes in the 15 - 20 yard range. His basic assumption is that teams will rarely score more than a field goal by nickel and diming their way down the field. However, I do think some starters will have to play better or be replaced...can't see Cauchy Muamba doing well in a Stubler D, based on the way he played last year. The secondary will need to be better, but I don't understand the nuances well enough to know how much of that falls on the safety.
