Rantanen gives Roslovic a Rolex to give up 96 when he was acquired by the Canes, 6 weeks later, Roslovic has his number back and a new watch.

Winning trade deadline day is like winning the offseason. Look where that's got the Predators. Most Cup Winners over the last decade did not get the big fish on deadline day. You'll see a lot more character/glue guys than superstars. 2023-24 Florida Panthers acquired Tarasenko (F) from OTT for a 3rd & conditional 4th. traded for Okposo (F) from BUF for a 5th & Sjalin (5th rd pick). got Hellberg (G) from STL for 7th & Waeber (undrafted). 2022-23 Vegas Golden Knights picked up Barbashev (F) from STL for Dean (1st rd pick). got nothing for sending Weber & a 5th rounder to ARZ. traded for Blueger (F) from PIT for 3rd & Dilibertatore (6th rd pick). acquired Quick (G) from CLM for Hutchinson & a 7th rounder 2021-22 Colorado Avalanche snagged Lehkonen (F) from MTL for Barron (1st rd pick) & a 2nd rounder. added Manson (D) from ANA for Helleson (2nd rd pick) & a 2nd rounder. got Cogliano (F) from SJ for a 5th rounder. picked up Sturm (F) from MIN for Jost. 2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning acquired Savard (D) from DET for a 4th rounder. 2019-20 Tampa Bay Lightning traded for Coleman (F) from NJ for Foote (1st rd pick) & a 1st rounder. added Goodrow (F) & a 3rd rounder from SJ for Greco (undrafted) & a 1st rounder 2018-19 St. Louis Blues got Del Zotto from ANA for a 6th rounder.. 2017-18 Washington Capitals picked up Kempny (D) from CHI for a 3rd rounder. acquired Jerabek from MTL for a 5th rounder. 2016-17 Pittsburgh Penguins added Hainsey (D) from CAR for Kristo (2nd rd pick) & 2nd rounder. got Streit (D) from TB for a 4th rounder. traded for Corrado (D) from TOR for Fehr, Oleksy, & a 4th rounder. 2015-16 Pittsburgh Penguins snagged Schultz (D) from EDM for a 3rd rounder. added Melindy, O’Donoghue, & Jeffrey from ARZ for Marcantuoni (4th rd pick). picked up Plachta from ARZ for Plotnikov (undrafted). 2014-15 Chicago Blackhawks acquired Vermette (F) from ARZ for Dahlbeck (3rd rd pick) & a 1st rounder. got Timonen (D) from PHI for 2nd & 4th rounders. traded for Desjardins (F) from SJ for B. Smith (6th rd pick) & a conditional 7th rounder. Chemistry can take time to build. Colorado had turned over 5 of it's 12 forwards in the past week. Postseason will be interesting.

Winnipeg not be a destination of choice certainly doesn't help. Per Murat at the Athletic, looks like we got scooped: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6185913/2025/03/08/winnipeg-jets-trade-deadline-failure/

It was Soul Bear who did the anthem last night. Didn't know he was military. He is excellent.

Game 44: Didn't we just play Colorado?
Tony Fresco replied to iHeart's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Apparently that was Helle's 3rd straight regular season shutout of the Avs. If only a certain playoff series hadn't happened, but an amazing stat nonetheless. He now also has as many shutouts this year as he has regulation losses (6). -
Found this: Billy Coutu was the first, and to date only, player banned from the NHL for life for violence in 1927; he assaulted referee Jerry Laflamme and tackled referee Billy Bell before starting a bench-clearing brawl during a Stanley Cup game between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators. The penalty was commuted after two-and-a-half years, but Coutu never played in the NHL again. Raffi Torres was suspended 41 games in 2015 (the same number of games Shane Pinto was suspended for gambling issues). Torres was for an illegal check to the head on Jakob Silfverberg and interference (longest non-lifetime suspension in NHL history; suspension length was issued because Torres had nine previous instances of NHL rule violations which required supplemental discipline rather than the check itself)

Matt Rempe of the Rangers was ejected for the 4th time in 22 career games. He will also receive an in-person hearing for this hit and had already been suspended once for elbowing..

Ehlers could be part of the return in a 3-way trade. Likely not necessary if the move is for a guy like Marcus Pettersson from Pittsburgh, but in a bigger deal ...

At 28 years old and 3 straight pt/gm seasons on a weak team, I'd hardly say he is past his prime. Although he has requested a trade, he has a full NTC, so he'd have to approve the destination. The big risk is his $8.7M price tag for the next 6 years, taking him to 34. This would also block Lambert's potential development as a C. Even if Larkin approved a trade here, I'd prioritize Top 4 D over 2C.

That didn't take long. Montgomery to St Louis. https://x.com/NHL/status/1860692037810389103

This was interesting. KC not the only former Lady Byng winner with a Gordie Howe just trick.

2024/2025 Blue Bombers Off-Season Thread
Tony Fresco replied to TBURGESS's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/2024/11/22/loyal-and-stubborn-to-the-end Finally there is someone looking for accountability in the media. Hamilton in today's Free Press states "O’Shea’s tunnel vision cost Big Blue big time" -
St Louis might be an option. He was a player there and spent some time as assistant coach as well. Also, I believe his wife is from there.

Puljujärvi is 26 years old. No longer a prospect. Time to start producing. Good start to the year for him, albeit in a small sample size.

Jets Preseason Thread 2024 edition
Tony Fresco replied to iHeart's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
I think McGroarty is most likely destined to be a winger. he's a gritty net front presence with good puck instincts, but not fast enough, nor a strong enough puck distributor to play center. -
Might impact the Stamps, who could move into a playoff spot next week with a victory over the Riders and a Blue wins over the Elks.
-
100% agree the media drooling over Rourke make it easy to cheer against him. However, I don't quite understand all the flack he has taken for his "unforeseen detour" comment. He's never said it was an unfortunate detour, only an unexpected one.

SNF: Elsks (??) @ (formerly) Bo-less Tabbies
Tony Fresco replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Sure. I'm not saying he's the saviour. We do know he ran a successful business for decades, and was able to sell it to have enough capital to take this on. Likely deserves a chance to be judged on his actions and results rather than a 60 second video clip. -
SNF: Elsks (??) @ (formerly) Bo-less Tabbies

We're so quick to judge based on appearances. Maybe he's just not accustomed to being interviewed on a national TV broadcast. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/cfl-s-edmonton-elks-announce-alberta-businessman-larry-thompson-new-owner-1.7295612 Per this article, He is a life long fan of the team and a season ticket holder since 1972. Also .. "There's no doubt that Larry's more comfortable on a road-building project, or working on his hobby with his antique cars and motorcycles, or actually sitting here as a fan in row one. But now he's the owner of a CFL franchise." -
I got Starlink for up at the cottage. Love it. Get speeds of just over 200 Mbps. The hardware deal makes it a no brainer.

Some insight from Sheldon Kennedy on what Bowman has done since leaving the Hawks. https://thehockeynews.com/news/sheldon-kennedy-of-respect-in-sports-group-reflects-on-his-work-with-stan-bowman. "I was immediately struck by Stan’s genuine care and concern for Kyle, and what could have been done differently," Kennedy said. "During that period, we spoke almost daily about the seriousness of sexual abuse from the victim’s perspective. We didn’t talk about hockey at all. We focused on what went wrong, what he could have done differently and, most importantly, what could be done to prevent this from happening again." Kennedy said Bowman's desire to acknowledge his mistakes and make amends with Beach were sincere and that he volunteered nearly full-time hours to help develop the Respect Charter and workshop curriculums. He added Bowman also co-facilitated the Respect Charter session at Trinity Western University in British Columbia and met with Beach, who attended the workshops and discussed their realities. "Stan’s acceptance, open mindedness, and understanding were huge difference makers in building this workshop," Kennedy said. Near the end of his letter, Kennedy said he believes Bowman "would be a valuable asset to an organization due to his acknowledgment of past mistakes and his relentless efforts to make the locker room/game safer for everyone. "Lastly and most importantly, I feel that Stan will do everything in his power to make sure what happened to Kyle Beach (who is a hero in my opinion) will not happen to anyone else," he added. ________ I respect Kennedy's perspective on this topic. Perhaps Bowman has realized some personal growth in his time away.

Not sure how reliable that source is, but I don;t mind that deal. Tuch at 6/4 220, is made for playoff truculence, just hasn't had a chance to participate in it. 28 years old with 1 year to UFA. Same situation as Ehlers. Call that a straight up swap, Iafallo for a 2nd is more than fair value. It's almost a cap dump as he was playing 4th line in the playoffs at a $4M price tag and doesn't have the greatest foot speed. Not sure why Buffalo would be interested, They have one of the smallest forward prospect pools (height-wise) and Ehlers is another smaller, slight framed forward, while Tuch is a Buffalo-area native.

Nashville is warmer climate and Tax free state. Or you can come to Winnipeg.

Underrated band. but Barstool Prophets were actually from Cornwall.

If Colorado goes to the final this year, then 5 of the last 6 teams to eliminate the Jets will have gone to the Stanley Cup Final. The three you mentioned plus Montreal in the bubble, St L in their cup year and Vegas in their first season. The only exception would be Calgary in 2019-20, which technically we missed the playoffs, finishing 9th in the conference in the COVID shortened season and lost to them in the play-in round.
