Update: Collaros threw for 5500 yards, not 54K. Thanks to J5V for proof reading for me. 25 years old is way different than 30. Jennings is the youngest starting QB in the league and has had more success than any of the current young guns in their first 3 years. He threw for more yards than even BLM did in his first 3 years, although BLM threw a lot less INT's. The big difference is that Jennings hasn't been brought along slowly like most QB's. He's been given the reins and been allowed to make mistakes, which he has done too often. The fact that he threw for less yards and more ints this year than last is worrisome, but that doesn't mean he's done as a QB. Jennings could become the next Burris or the next Printers or somewhere in between. I'll be very interested to see what he does with a different OC who doesn't want to throw deep all the time and what he can do behind a better O line.

Go back and read my first post again. I said I'd take Jennings over any of the other QB's I mentioned. I wouldn't take Willy back at any price. Collaros hasn't won a game in over a year. Masoli won a bunch of games with the same team. I wouldn't touch Collaros for anything over than 200K. I think he's been Willy'd as in broke beyond repair. So what's Jennings accomplished? Became a CFL starting QB at 23 or24. Got his team into the playoffs in his first year as a starter. Has thrown for almost 11K yards in less than 3 years (Collaros threw for about 54K yards in his first 3 years). Suffered the sophomore jinx in 2017 behind a bad O line and with an OC that wanted to go deep all the time.

You're comparing Willy to Jennings? That's laughable. Willy on his best day isn't anywhere near as athletic as Jennings on his worst day and he never learned to read a defense. I never thought Willy had 'it', but I think Jennings still might. Jennings isn't there yet, but he also had to deal with a horrible O line that didn't give him any time to make his decisions and an OC who loves the deep ball, just like he did when he was a player. You simply can't compare a 25 year old to a 29 or 30 year old. After some time, the game slows down for a lot of QB's. Collaros is 29. Willy is 31. Franklin is 26. None of them has done as much as Jennings has and he's only 25. I think Jennings is much like Burris. It will take him some time to get there, but if he does, he'll be one of the best QB's in the league.

Assuming that Jennings stays in the CFL (Pretty good assumption IMO), it will be interesting to see how he does with a different OC. I'll bet he looks a lot better. He has all the physical skills. All he needs to do is make some better choices. Either people are forgetting that he's only 25 with 3 CFL seasons under his belt or they're expecting that a inexperienced QB will make as good and as quick decisions as a 34 year old QB with 9 seasons of experience, which is unrealistic. I'd take Jennings over Collaros who hasn't won a game in over a year or Willy who lost it years ago or Durant whose been injured then didn't play well or even Franklin who is older, has less experience and who has only started a few CFL games.

Khari's not much of an OC IMO. Folks love to complain about Jennings going deep all the time, but give a pass to Khari who designed the deep ball plays and called them. It's Jennings taking the heat for Khari, not Khari taking the fall for Jennings.

CFL Schedule Change a Bad Idea
TBURGESS replied to Brendan McGuire's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
There was a long thread on the other site about this. General consensus was that the draft is the biggest downside, but that GM's already know how much NFL interest that most players have. The biggest upsides would be the new money from the NFL network, an increased US audience and less cold weather games. Personally, I'd be happy to move the season forward a month if it does nothing but get more money for the CFL. Less months without football would be great for me. I don't watch hockey much, so I'd choose CFL over NHL playoffs (That season is too long IMO), but I understand that TSN may not like it. I think it's better to compete with the NHL for eyes early in the season than it is to compete with the NFL late in the season. -
Caddy remarks? Something your caddy tells you? I think you mean catty remarks.

There are no guarantees, but that doesn't mean that experience doesn't matter. Just look at the records of the experienced HC's vs the inexperienced ones. There is a better chance to win more games, get into the playoffs and win playoff games with experienced folks. No one is saying that there's no point in taking a shot on a rookie. I'm saying that a rookie comes with an increased probability of failure and a longer time frame to achieve success. There are 40+ players on the team. Some of them should be rookies. Some should be old vets. Some should be in between. There is 1 HC running things. Like QB, I think that should be an experienced person, for many of the same reasons.
-
The Bombers hire inexperienced HC's (MOS,Burke,PLAP, Kelly, Berry,Hoffman,Reinebold), hoping that they will magically become good and that's part of the problem. Berry is the only one who is above .500, although MOS should catch him next year. PLAP and Berry are the only ones with playoff wins. When we hired experienced HC's (Daley, Richie, Murphy), 2 out of 3 were over .500 and Daley was never over .500 either with us or the Riders. 5 Playoff wins and 8 Playoff losses (Going back to '93, not including Murphy's 83-86 stint at HC where he was .659 5 wins and 3 losses in the playoffs). As I've already pointed out Trestman, C Jones and J Jones turned their teams around very quickly and they started with as bad a team as MOS did. It's ridiculous to assert that experience doesn't matter. It's not that some of us can't be pleased. Most, if not all of us, are happy with the results of the last 2 regular seasons and pissed that we can't win playoff games. Some of us want to set the bar higher than just regular season wins and that's not too much to ask for after 4 years of this regime.
-
What a ridiculous suggestion/comparison. I compared the results of 3 experienced coaches taking over bad teams to MOS. I didn't suggest that every experienced HC could win the Grey Cup every year. I showed the actual results of hiring professionals compared to hiring guys who have to learn on the job. You may not like the comparison, because it doesn't show MOS in a great light, but at least get the comparison I'm making straight. I'm not suggesting that we blow everything up and start over this year. MOS has 2 more years on his contract, but if he doesn't at least win a playoff game next year, I'd be looking for an experienced HC to get us to the next level. 4 years without a playoff win is bad enough. 5 years should be a firing offense. While am at it... Firing the HC when we already have a good core of players isn't the same thing as starting from scratch again or blowing the whole thing up. It's making a change to try and change the results.
-
We were the healthiest team in the league this year. I'll take play off wins over in season wins and Grey Cup appearances over one and done and Grey Cup wins over all of them. MOSS hasn't delivered any of that yet. Experienced coaching has.
-
I wasn't suggesting that those guys were available. I was showing what experience does. I'll take wins over culture every day of the week.
-
Toronto hired Trestman and won the Grey Cup this year. Riders hired Jones who got them into the playoffs and a playoff win in year 2. Hamilton's Jones turned that team around in half a year. It could be argued that he'd have made the playoffs if he'd had the whole year. All 3 of those coaches took over teams as bad as the one that MOS did. We chose MOS and we'll go into year 5 still looking for our first playoff victory.

Calgary - A smallish changing of the old guard is coming. The core will be the same, but Messam and others are going to be replaced. Edmonton - Franklin gone, but they'll try to keep the rest as intact as possible. They're close to being the best team in the league and could pull past Calgary next year. Winnipeg - Re-Sign our guys, fill a few holes where we lose FA's and pick up a couple of FA's. Consistency is still the buzz word. Even Hall is likely back next year. Regina - My guess for Franklin's new team, which means Glenn is gone. Should also be a bunch of other turn over as Jones loves to bring guys in. BC - It comes down to what Wally does. If he stays as GM or GM/Coach then their won't be a lot of change. If he doesn't then blowing up the whole thing is a very real possibility. Jennings gets another chance. Lulay is done as a QB and goes into coaching. Toronto - Ray stays. They continue where they left off this year and look like the cream of the East. Ottawa - Goes big in FA. Only a few pieces away from being a good team. Harris will be better next year. Hamilton - June Jones is back. Callaros is gone. My guess is to Montreal. Big turnover on this team too. Montreal - A bunch of old guys including Durrant gone. New coaches. New attitude. Big players in FA.
-
I looked it up, and you're right. I guess I merged the good things into a single memory. Stupid old age.
-
The Michael Gray INT was one of the sweetest plays ever. After so many years of almost good enough, we finally won the cup. Would have been my best memory, but I didn't make it to that game in person.

'90. Was at the game on the 50 yard line about 15 rows up. My wife worked for the company who made the GC rings, so everything was comped from the tickets to the parties. Down on the field after the game watching the presentation and talking with the players. Great week.
-
Fair enough. Personally, I think that the number of all stars we have, the FA signings and the drafting shows that Walters has mostly done a good job. Not perfect and the scouting still needs work, but I think he's giving the team the players that we need to win games.
-
They are going to get sued anyway. Lying and denying won't stop that. The NFL settled for $1 Billion. The CFL will eventually have to pay ex-players.
-
4 years without a playoff win. How many more years do you think we should have to wait for a playoff win or a Grey Cup berth or even a Grey Cup win? Hint: Toronto did the first 2 in 1 year and have a shot at the third tomorrow.
-
The players chose a players coach? What a surprise.
-
Deny and lie. That's what happens these days. How 'bout admitting their's a problem and working towards a solution? Nah... Folks would call you stupid.
-
I don't want to go back to the disasters of the past. I want to move forward to winning playoff games and eventually the Grey Cup and I'm not convinced that MOS is the HC to get us there.

Why yes, I do mean 61 yard FG. Gotta re-read my posts before I click on Submit.
