That's the worst game I've seen Reilly play in a long time. A bunch of overthrows. Some under throws. A few throws into double coverage. Yah, he was running for his life a lot of the time, but he's done that before and still looked great. The Riders just beat Edmonton in all 4 quarters, in a way we didn't just one week before. Make no mistake, this was a beat down and they did the same thing to BC 2 weeks ago. They did it much the way we won most games last year... Takeaways. When I looked at the schedule at the beginning of the year, I saw the back to back games against the Riders as free spots on the bingo card. Now they are looking more like statement games. Should be a couple of great games.

I'm not excited. I'm asking a question.

Are the Riders for real???? Back to back 40+ point games against BC then Edmonton. Bunch of takeaways and tons of pressure on the QB's. Looks like we have a couple of tough games coming up.

I suspect that Loffler's injury has something to do with his reduced level of play.
-
3 Stars: Randle - His 2 picks saved the game for us. Harris - Took a licking, kept on ticking. Denmark - He had one of his great games. Happy Honker: This goes to someone who did something a bit special... Lankford for tracking down Logan and saving the TD.

Flying High into Montréal: Bombers vs. Als
TBURGESS replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Every game we play against a team that is below us in the standings isn't a 'classic trap game'. We should have lost to Montreal the first time we played them. We absolutely killed them in the last 1:40, but they were way ahead before that. Montreal's a pretty good team that had a bad game last week. They should bounce back this week and I expect a hard hitting close game. -
Lulay took a hit to the ribs a couple of games ago. He couldn't practice the week before the Riders game. He took another hit to the ribs in that game just before the half. Jennings played the second half. Wally may not have had much of a choice but to play Jennings in that game, whether he was ready to come back or not. (It didn't look like he was ready to me.) Buono told everyone day one of this week that Jennings was going to be the starting QB. He's old school. I guess he still believes you don't lose your starting job to injury. Jennings looked much better in the second half than the first, but if Lulay is healthy, he'd have been a better choice to start IMO.
-
Jennings first pick wasn't his fault. Receiver had both hands on it. I'm not sure who the second one was even thrown to. Problems with BC receivers running the wrong routes all night long. It was funny when the announcers were going on and on about Wally talking to Lulay and saying he was about to go in, when they were clearly talking about a receiver running the wrong route, which Jennings was complaining about on the field. Note to Wally... Horse collar no longer means grabbing the shoulder pads from behind. When Roh grabbed BLM's nameplate, the flag came out right away. Something's wrong with BLM. Yah, he had some drops, but his accuracy and timing were off too. BC had a great opportunity to win last night because of it, but failed. BC's kicker needs to be better. Simply get the convert and they kick a FG instead of go for the first down at the end of the game which would have taken it to OT. Lulay's going to be a coach in this league. He looked more like the OC than Khari last night.

If I were to make a list of high paid vets who aren't pulling their weight, Collaros and Banks would be at the top. Finding a new returner is easier than a new QB, so cutting Banks if you want to send a message, would be the way to go.
-
If the DB's are sitting down at the 10 yard mark to stop us from getting first downs, I'm giving receivers 15 yard routes, not 5 yard ones. Catch the ball and you've got a first so getting YAC isn't as important.

Around the League - Regular Season Discussion (Redux)
TBURGESS replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
FWIW: Story I heard was that Wally made an offer to Harris during the season that Harris turned down. We matched that offer in the off season and Harris came back home to play. -
When I look at the number and the quality of the players on Edmonton's IR's, I wonder how they can even field a competitive team, let alone a 7-0 team. We won't have an easier game against a good team than this week against the Eskimos. Lose this one, and I wonder if we can beat either team that's above us or even BC unless they play like they did last night which I doubt will happen again this year.

Nichols blocking is the same as Buck taking on tacklers instead of hook sliding. Macho stuff that has more down than up side. If Nichols gets hurt blocking this place will blow up with 'He shouldn't have been blocking in the first place'. Cuz he didn't get hurt this time, it becomes 'That's called leadership'.
-
I hated the attempted block by Nichols. Game was over and he could have been trucked by the defensive player. No advantage to trying the block except the single play and a huge disadvantage if he got hurt.

Testing Our Mettle: Eskies Coming Here
TBURGESS replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
If we can't beat the Eskimos when they have like 20 guys, at least half of them starters, on the IR, then we'll never beat them. They are down to 3rd and 4th string guys now and barely beat Hamilton last week . This game is ours for the taking. -
https://twitter.com/jeffkhamilton/status/895781394735128577 Jeff Hamilton @jeffkhamilton Being told the release of Bruce Johnson was simply a roster move and that Mike O'Shea will expand on that tomorrow in Hamilton. #Bombers

Nichols is a good QB, just like Burgess was. Neither are elite. Neither win/won or lose games on their own. Both can/could win with a very good team around them. Neither make/made the big mistake. Currently Nichols is 6th in passing yards, 664 yards behind Ricky Ray. He's tied for 3rd with Glenn and Reilly for passing TD's, which is pretty much middle of the league. He's number 6 in completion % and 8th in Avg yards per pass. He's being a really good O line (#1 in QB pressures allowed). Nichols needs to find his deep ball touch to take the next step.
-
Bit of a surprise. Folks kept saying he was going to fix our DB problem. I guess the paycheck didn't match the output any more. Hard to miss him as he hasn't played this year.
-
Edmonton isn't as good as their record and have 20 guys on their IR lists. No Bowman, Zylstra, Van, Lawrence, White, Whyte, Sherritt, Konar or Hunt, yet they still find ways to win and have beaten BC twice. Ottawa is better than their record, but they keep finding ways to lose. Last week they couldn't even get a single first down at the end of the game to eek out a win. Should be close, but I'll put my money on Edmonton.

Is it known which Western team tried to grab Spooner off PR??
TBURGESS replied to Booch's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Players can refuse, but that doesn't explain why Spooner was moved from the PR to the 1 game IR, unless it's a reward for refusing. -

TBURGESS replied to Booch's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Not sure it ever happened. Spooner was added to the 1 game injured list Aug 3 (https://www.cfl.ca/transactions/) and wasn't on the 46 man roster (https://d3ham790trbkqy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2016/06/Depth-at-Ottawa-August-4.pdf) for the Aug 4th game. Rules (https://cfldb.ca/faq/rosters/) state: -
I'd switch us and BC around, but the rest looks good.
-
The Argos already gave up on LeFevour. I doubt they want him back, even now.
-
I agree, but I think a turnover is pretty much the maximum you're going to get with a challenge.
