I put most of the troubles of this team on the plate of the talent as opposed to the coaching that's the big difference here. Stats are flawed, you should know that. Use your eyes, you can see the D did enough to win games with any kind of support, but they didn't get it. You and I both know that you can't win with just defence in the CFL. Edmonton had arguably the best D in the league but they still had an offense that was capable of doing something. Hamilton had another of the top defenses but when Collaros went down their winning ways left pretty quick too right? No defense will consistently win games for a team, they might win a few but none will carry an offense as sad sack as the Bombers for more than a handful of games. To me Bellefeuille was the only coach that was flat out terrible and he's gone now. Now it's up to them to hire a good candidate at the position and get some more talent for the existing coaches to work with. Stats are a good starting point, not the be all and end all. Defenses have won lots of games. Edmonton's defense won most of the games that Reilly didn't play in. Hamilton's defense won games for them too and almost won them the eastern playoff. BTW: Hammy lost way more than just Collaros they were down to their 4th string QB by the end of the year. I can't argue that MB is a terrible coach. I blame O'Shea for hiring him in the first place and for not firing him after his first season. I agree that we need to upgrade the talent level on offense. I blame Walters for that because he's the one in charge of providing the talent. To me MB, Tracey and Etch were all terrible coaches and they were all hired by O'Shea.

I'd take Cortez in a second. BC was behind us in TOP and way ahead in points scored and they were using a backup QB too. Cortez has a great track record over a lot of years too. I don't see him being a Walters/O'Shea type of signing though.

Defense was our strength but not a strength when compared to the other teams. We ranked 8th in most of the big stats. Comparing O'Shea (.333 wins) to Burke (.250 wins) isn't the comparison that we need to do. We need to compare O'Shea to the other HC's in the league right now and he doesn't fair well at all. That's a tired argument that I absolutely do not like. Statistics are like a bikini, what they reveal is tantalizing but what they conceal is vital. Here's what I know from watching the games... there were a hell of a lot of games that were winnable with even an average offensive output, we didn't get that. We were lucky in a lot of games to even get a good quarter out of the O let alone a good game. It's the CFL afterall, sometimes you still have to be able to score your way out of trouble, our team failed to do that. The D wasn't perfect but it was good enough and if they can get some better DL I'd have no trouble seeing them get better without too much trouble. You're comparing O'Shea to one of the worst HC's we've ever had. Sure, he's better than Burke but who cares? Unless he's better than the HC's of the teams ahead of us and that's 7 teams, it won't matter much. You're tired of using stats because they don't work in your favor. I watched the same games and I saw a defense that gave up a ton of yards and a ton of first downs and that wasn't just after they got tired. They couldn't get themselves off the field very often. The best thing they did was force teams into FG's instead of TD's but that wasn't enough for us to beat any of the top 5 teams. Of course we need a better offense and we're all hopeful that a new OC will be able to give that to us but it's not the only problem on the team.

The reality is that we hired inexperienced people so I am willing to give them a chance to learn on the job as long as they're not a complete clusterfuck (which they aren't) Yes I have more patience than you, but being impatient hasn't worked for 25 years why not try a different approach this time? I wasn't calling for O'Shea's or Walters heads at the end of last year because they were rookies who were learning on the job. (I didn't think they should have been hired in the first place, but that's another story.) They weren't rookies this year and they provided even worse results. Walters had a lot of good ideas. I like the way he revamped the scouting department and the way he hired more people, but he didn't staff it properly so it hasn't provided the results it should have. I like the idea of hiring more coaches, but I didn't like the choices. I like the idea of keeping our draft picks, but I don't like his drafting. I like that he's been busy in free agency and is willing to spend to get players to come to Winnipeg, but I don't like that he can't tell who's good and who's bad unless they've already played in the CFL (Ex: QB's/backup). Basically, I like the ideas but the execution isn't there. He's had 2.5 years to improve and I don't see much if any improvement. I liked O'Shea the player and O'Shea the special teams coach. I didn't like him as a rookie HC or as a sophomore for that matter. I think that 2 years is enough to figure out if he has it or not and he's come up way short. It shouldn't take total incompetence in all areas of the job to fire him. Missing the playoffs both years should be enough. This isn't the first time we've given a GM a 3rd year. Joe Mack was given 3 and a half. I remember arguing with you, 17, that he should be fired when we missed the playoffs in 2012. I think this makes BC a better team now that they only have one voice from above. It also explains why Wally wouldn't let other teams talk to his coaching staff. I'll bet Wally wants to keep most of them.

I'd bet that there's a clause in Jones' contract that lets him get out if a better job is offered. As he's an HC, HC/GM would qualify. I read that Wally isn't giving permission to teams to talk to his coaches but Tedford's been getting some inquiries from down south and I'll bet his contract has an out for a better job too.

Surprise surprise the same people who are constantly nothing but positive see hope where there isn't any. We've already given O'Shea and Walters enough rope to hang themselves, and they did. Now we'll give them one more season to see if both of the first 2 seasons were flukes. The most likely outcome is we will have to make changes mid-season next year and that almost never works out. I wouldn't say I'm constantly positive, I can point out things that are wrong, the trouble is when you see everything as being wrong anyone who tells you that not everything is wrong is seen as pumping sunshine and rainbows up everyones ass. This I disagree with... there's still a long way to go and we need to start winning some game ASAP... to say they're damaging the team is short sighted... 2 years ago no one wanted any part in coming to Winnipeg... not coaches, not players, we had no base of NI talent and our import players were suspect... while we still need to improve at bringing in imports, we definitely have a decent stable of base Canadian now... free agents are willing to sign here, and not necessarily b/c we are the highest bidder... this off-season we'll find out if we can attract some top coaching talent... they're putting us back on the CFL map... hopefully that will actually pay off this year... I still need to see a lot more to be convinced this regime can do more than provide hope... but there is no chance they are actually hurting the team... Mack didn't pursue free agents he thought he could build a team through scouting. That's the biggest reason that we didn't sign many. Walters strongly pursues free agents to make the team better quicker (it hasn't happened) and because our scouting hasn't provided enough good players. How can you make a statement like "not necessarily b/c we are the highest bidder" when you don't know what other teams offered? Pretty much every player is going to say they made the right choice for the right reasons once they've been signed. It will be interesting to see if we can/will attract some top coaching talent. I wouldn't put PLAP into that category and according to Lawless, whose often right, he's our first choice and we're willing to wait to see if he gets other offers. The best coaches will want to be with winners because winning makes you worth more as a coach. We can't offer that. I'd guess that being with a new group trying to turn a team around is preferable to being the last guy in on a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 4 years especially if the new HC has a winning history. Our ability to attract a talented OC will come down to money and a chance at being a HC soon. 17... Having draft picks is great but Walters drafting hasn't been stellar. Long term planning is good but it isn't an excuse for not winning today. It's a balancing act... Good teams (Look as Calgary's drafting for example) plan for tomorrow and win today. You certainly have more patience for losing than I do if you'd only fire folks who aren't doing their jobs if you can get get a known upgrade. As much as I'd like an experienced guy, I'd settle for a new GM like Murphy, who's available BTW, rather than a GM who's already proven he can't do the job. Same goes for the HC spot.

I'd love to be optimistic but I see no reason to believe that we are headed in the right direction. The stats don't show it. The history of the league doesn't show it. The wins don't show it. The team's preparation doesn't show it. The lack of fight in the last game doesn't show it. Regina was the only team that was worse than us this year. They're looking at good to great people from winning programs to turn themselves around... Hufnagel and Murphy from the Stamps and Chris Jones from Edmonton. We're looking at the same people who missed the playoffs 2 years in a row and got us to 8th place two years in a row to suddenly get better to turn us around. I don't believe that firing coaches who couldn't do the job were the wrong decisions when we did it except in Berry's case. I don't believe that firing HC's who couldn't cut it would hurt in hiring new coaches because it never has anywhere else in the league. I don't believe keeping the top 3 guys the same when we they haven't been able to make the playoffs or get out of 8th or beat any of the top 5 teams or even get 2 wins in a row for more than a year and a half is a good decision. I'd be all over the consistency argument if we were winning enough games to get into the playoffs, if we could beat any of the the top teams, if we were winning more games each year with the same group. That's the kind of consistency I'm looking for and this group hasn't gotten anywhere close to it.

Yesterday in the pregame show they said that Toronto might not be able to fit a full sized field in their new stadium so they're thinking of clipping the endzones off. Maybe that's what the new logo is supposed to show.

Nice to see a great GC game. Two very good teams battled it out for 60 minutes. Lots of big plays on offense and defense. Best game ever played at IGF IMO. Congrats to the Eskimos. They came back from 13 nothing early in the game to eek out a well deserved win. Just a great way to end the season.

As a member of the 55+ group who are the biggest number of CFL watchers... New Logo - No better than the old one. Worse actually. Just grey and black inside a clipped football with a little bit of red. It doesn't pop. New Tagline - I couldn't have told you what the old tagline was. I'll forget the new one soon after finishing this post. New Video - I'd rather have more actual great football plays with a 'Video Game' look than footballs in flames and throwing a ball through glass. I didn't like the music either but I know it's not aimed at me. I doubt it brings in any more young fans that the league needs, but if it does, then I'm all for it.

Reneging on a signed contract is worth suing about because you have a very good chance of winning. If there was a confirmation email then they don't have anywhere near as strong a case, the chances of winning are way lower and it may cost more to try and collect than it's worth. Sounds like the union is just trying to embarrass the Bombers to me, but then again I don't have all the facts.

Go back and read the posts again. I've already given a lists of who I'd like for GM, HC, and OC. The Westerman, Picard and Bryant signings are examples of positive posts where I agree with what the Bombers have done. Not sure what you expect to get out of calling me a liar. If it's an argument your looking for, move on. I'm not playing.

Huff isn't old and declining. He's one of the best GM/HC's in the league and has been for years. Murphy would be an inexperienced at GM but he's been an assist. GM in Calgary for 8 years and has provided a ton of talent to that club along the way and to ours in his 1 year. That's way more than Walters has accomplished and for a longer period of time. Both would be better choices than what we currently have. I so called 'dump on the Bombers' when they make bad decisions and they've made a ton of those over the last decade or so. Berry's been the only HC that they got right and I didn't 'dump' on him. In fact I was annoyed when they fired him and hired 'He who must not be named'. We've only had 1 winning season since then and it was due to a great 8 weeks early on. I'd be ecstatic if we hired people who knew what they were doing and who turned this team back into a top 3 team instead of a bottom 2 team.

Huff isn't the only upgrade over Walters. Murphy and others would be too. I doubt Walters could simply end his contract with the Bombers anyway unless he has an out for the Guelph job written in in the first place.
