Riders release; Bombers sign Dominic Picard
TBURGESS replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I like this signing. Our NI O lineman got a bit better today. -
You sir are a liar. Washington is one of the biggest playmakers on this team and re-signing him is a HUGE positive. Or are you still all salty about some of the fumbles on punt returns? Get over it, the guy is a great defensive back. You sir are an obnoxious idiot. (Not sure why we need the name calling, but I like to reply to folks the way they post.) Are you planning to comment negatively on every post I make? You need to ignore Washington's downside to make him a 'Must Have', which you can't do. It's like saying Watson's a 'Must Have' receiver, if you ignore the fact that he's always injured. Washington would get offers from other teams if we didn't sign him, but that's not the same as a 'Must Have' either. Wild's the only one left on our list that I'd put in the 'Must Have' list.

IGF Stadium Money Pit Grows: Broadbeck
TBURGESS replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Interest is a taxpayer cost. The Bombers aren't paying any to the Govt. until the $10 Mil CIBC loan is paid. The $1.2 Mil the Bombers have paid goes directly to the principle, if I read things right. Interest is charged on the entire loan, not just the Bombers part of it. 4.65% on a mortgage loan is too high. 4% is more likely. With $4.5 Mil yearly payments, the interest on the total loan won't be covered, let alone paying down any principle. -
Riders release; Bombers sign Dominic Picard
TBURGESS replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
To me the question is simple... Is Picard an upgrade over Morley at center this year? The answer in my mind is yes. It doesn't matter if he'll be better for more than one year because Gossen is the heir apparent at center. Sign him for 2 years and cut him in the second year if Gossen is ready. Morley is a poor guard. I'd rather see Gossen start there next year if he isn't ready for the center spot. Morley is too expensive to be the 6th O lineman. I'd rather use our 1st round pick. Morley OR Picard? I'll take Picard. -
Washington's an OK signing. Not one of the "must haves". Welcome back.
-
Actually, they made the right call then picked up the flag and didn't announce why. One of the worst reffing jobs I've seen.

There's no such thing as 'Downtown Dollars'. The downtown area draws from the GTA. The Raptors and the Leafs don't often play at the same time as the Argo's so they are only in competition on game day a few times a year. As for competition for the sports dollar in general, that doesn't change no matter where you put a stadium in the city. The venues are close together so that businesses around them can survive and thrive. 10 dates at a CFL stadium isn't enough to support restaurants and bars around the venue. Stadiums on university campuses help businesses 10 times a year, but it's the students who make them viable, not the stadium. The best idea is to share the BMO field with the FC and the CFL has been actively trying to accomplish that for a couple (few?) years.

You know ... as a real estate professional, I thought you'd be a lot better at using the proper variables in this conversation. It's not strictly size that has to be looked at. Your right, it's not strictly size. It's location, location, location. Downtown works for the Leafs, the Raptors, the Blue Jays and the FC. All venues are within 15 minutes of each other. It's not where the stadium is that hurts the Argos and building a new CFL only stadium elsewhere in the city makes almost no sense.

Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal is the only big cities in the CFL. You want to compare Toronto to Winnipeg?
-
Abbotsford would be ridiculous. It's an hour away from Vancouver on a good day and there's no Skytrain to get to it. In big cities, the stadium needs to be central and you need to be able to get there easily through rapid transit. You can't put your stadium an hour or more away from half of your fans and that's exactly what would happen if you put it in any outlying quadrant of Toronto or Vancouver for that matter. A smaller, newer stadium might help in TO.

Riders release; Bombers sign Dominic Picard
TBURGESS replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I won't be unhappy if we don't bring Picard in, especially if Gossen can start. Morley plays best at center and his best isn't all that good. He'll be getting big bucks considering how long he's been playing and his passport. Too much for a backup IMO. I'd rather leave the 6th spot for our 1st round draft pick instead. -
Bombers restructure Nick Moore's contract
TBURGESS replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Leaving any 2014 cap space available would be dumb GM'ing. We must have had a lot of space considering all the signings this year and the Moore restructure. -
Riders release; Bombers sign Dominic Picard
TBURGESS replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Picard's better than Morley by quit a bit IMHO. At the same price, I'd bring in Picard and lose Morley. I'm assuming Gossen is pencil'd in as the starting center next year though, but he may not be ready yet. -
The idea that folks with kids only live in the Burbs is so quaintly prairies. Vancouver's stadium and Arena are both right downtown as are lots of young families.

Hall most likely to be new DC (Now Official)
TBURGESS replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
New year. Same old crap. You shouldn't have start arguments you won't finish. It's so tiresome that you make crap up that I don't say then complain about it almost every time I post anything. I didn't say signing Hall was a bad move. I gave reasons that the Bombers would prefer him over Benevides, including the fact that we don't have to compete to get him. Me arrogant? Pot, meet kettle. And yet it still came across as condescending and insulting because Hall wasn't your choice but benevides was. You feel like the bombers made a bad move because this is a cheaper and less risky proposition for O'Shea and you cannot play dumb about it.. If you seriously are so oblivious to how you come across in your posts 95% of the time.... I absolutely think that Benevides is a better choice. I make no bones about it at all. That's not the same thing as saying hiring Hall is a bad move, which I didn't say BTW and that's what you and 17 are whining about. -

what a crock of **** post. It's the holiday season, it's a brand new year and you pull the Debbie Downer crap? Come on now. Would it kill you to be positive for once? I started with he's better than Etch. What more do you want? -

TBURGESS replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Hall's a safe choice and better than Etch. We don't have to go into competition (Read 'Overpay') to get him as Sask is the only other team that's looking for a DC right now and they don't want him. We'd have to compete with Regina for Benevides. Hall's a calm, nice guy so he should get along well with the rest of our coaches, the same might not be true of Benevides. Hall's defenses aren't significantly different than Etch's so we won't need to change out as many players as we would if we went with Benevides. Hall's not HC material so he won't be as much a risk to O'Shea as Benevides would be. -

I'm happy with Hall, although I'd prefer Washington or Benevides. All are upgrades over Etch. -
Ugly or Wonderful ... your gut hunch for 2015

Gut feeling... No upgrades yet = Same as last year. -

Way too early. Ask again after TC when we have a DC, a Draft, have 'Overpaid for FA's' and have brought in scouted players. -
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, etc. I hope you get everything you wanted.

Good signing. Can't have too many Canucks who can play when called upon.

Jeff Tedford Hired as BC Lions Head Coach
TBURGESS replied to Rich's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Interesting move by Wally. With Cortez (rumor) and Washington (Another rumor) as coordinators, they should have a very good coaching staff. -
I don't think the Portis signing means anything other than we wanted him back and I don't care if Brohm is back or not. I'd be happy to see Marve move into the #2 spot.
