About the way I see it at the moment. I expect that BC and Wpg will change places next week.
-
Personally, I'd like to see the player who causes the injury to be out as long as the player they injured if it's an illegal hit, but I know it will never happen. Neither the CFL or the CFLPA are interested in player safety. They are only interested in looking like they are.

I agree with screens and draws, but quick slants against BC's LB's is suicide. We need to move the pocket and we need to establish the run, which is easier said than done. With our O line, Willy needs to get it off in 3 steamboats, which means mostly short and medium throws. BC has a lot of big play guys like Harris, Logan and Arceneaux so we need to get to Glenn early and often to get him into chuck and duck mode. If we can get Glenn off his game, then we can win. If not, it's going to be a long night.

I'm worried about how easily BC beat up on Montreal and how much trouble we had with them. Smith had a really bad game and was of course inaccurate, but BC's defence completely shut them down. BC's offense scored almost at will even with the backup QB in. Harris and Login could kill us.

Anyone miss the old Section S at the old stadium?
TBURGESS replied to Pitthead's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think there should still be a section "S" spot for those who want that kind of environment. I also think there should be a booze free section and a family section for folks who want that kind of environment. The game day experience should be great for everyone, no matter what kind of fan they are. Putting like types together would really help that IMHO. -
It doesn't matter if it's a RB, a receiver or a QB. If any of them dive forward and don't get touched, they can all get up an run and none of them will be whistled dead. The refs didn't even whistle it dead when a returner took a knee on the field. They allowed him to get back up and return the ball. Quite frankly, that one should have been whistled dead IMO, but it's pretty evident that the refs aren't going to whistle anyone down until they've been touched, unless it's in the endzone. I do fault the defensive players for not touching Reilly down. They should all know the rules.

Montreal's D line should own BC's O line again. Glenn's going to have to have a much better game than last time or else it will be the same result. BC has been a graveyard for Montreal and it's always tougher to win the second game against the same team, but I think Montreal will do it this afternoon.
-
Of course we would be. There's nothing wrong with what Reilly did. I'd expect him to get up if he didn't hear a whistle. The point is there should have been a whistle. This is one of those arguments where you're obviously not going to get it, so we'll just leave it at that. Point is there shouldn't have been a whistle because no one touched him. You're the one who's not getting it.
-
BS. Reilly didn't slide feet first. He didn't hook slide. He wasn't down by contact. He got back up and continued the play which is what the rules allow and exactly what he was taught to do. The defensive players don't need to think if it was a hook slide or feet first or even if it's a QB. No thought process needed. All they have to do its tag the player on the ground. Every freaking time! I don't mean spear the player on the ground. I don't mean hit the player on the ground. I mean tag the player and I've never seen anyone get a penalty for that. This shouldn't even be a debate. If Willy had done it, we'd be rightfully saying "Good Job".
-
Argh! Any player on the ground, QB's included, have to be touched down and every player on the defense knows that. It's been that way for as long as I can remember.
-
he didn't hook slide but only because he was a bit off balance... he kind of fell sideways, but he was clearly trying his best to slide and give himself up. Yup, he was giving himself up. All the defense had to do was touch him, but they didn't for some unexplainable reason. That's their fault, not the refs or Reilly's. Why would they think they had to touch him when they were thinking he gave himself up and the whistle should go?....you're theory doesn't hold water. God good folks. I was taught in 6 man football in the 60's to tag the ball carrier on the ground. It's not something that's new. If the whistle hasn't gone, tag the guy. No questions. It doesn't matter if it's the QB or not. Just touch him down to make sure.

Sorry but it's really not as simple as that at all... You know for a fact if a bomber hit him while he was down, it would have been a flag so really.. whats the bombers to do in that situation? Again sorry i've read some of your posts and i'm not sure how you can say some of the stuff you have been saying, for example saw you say willy didn't throw the ball enough, you weren't at the game so... how do you know who was open and who wasn't? Cuz i was and i'll give you a hint, the reason he held on to the ball and "looked like the rookie qb he was" was because NOBODY was open and when they were? He'd hit them and drop it, saw you call the JFG throw in the first an overthrow? Funny happened right in front of me at the game and JFG stopped running and got turned around, if he kept running ,touchdown easily cuz the nearest esk was 2 sections away. Anyway though, really not as simple as you think it is. You don't hit a guy on the ground. You just touch him down. That's what you do in the situation. Everyone on the field and most fans know that. I didn't say that Willy didn't throw the ball enough. I said he didn't throw the ball well well enough. The JFG throw was on the wrong side of the receivers body. Thats why he tried to turn around to get it. Probably why it looked like he slowed down too. A better throw is probably a TD.

Reilly didn't hook slide so the defense had to touch him to be down by contact. The defense made a mistake. Reilly took advantage of it. It's as simple as that.

Bonus Do or Die Detailed Half Time Report
TBURGESS replied to do or die's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The Grigsby giveaway was the only points that Edmonton needed to win and that's a big problem. No way to sugarcoat it. -
One of my complaints about TSN coverage is that you don't get many wide angles so you can't tell if the receivers are getting open or not. You can see Willy set, look and then get happy feet. First read certainly wasn't open. Could be on the receiver or the QB or both. Receivers didn't give Willy as much help as they have in the past 3 games.
-
As soon as I saw the opening kickoff I wanted to change my pick from Wpg to Edm. Then the pick 6 happened and I really wanted to change it. Willy missed wide open receivers and he wasn't seeing what he expected from the Edmonton D. His worst performance of the year by a long shot and the O line didn't give him much time help. I'm no OC, but I'd have added some screens, draws, quick slants and moved the pocket to try and slow down the rush and try to keep him upright.

Unvarnished and Unwashed Weekly CFL Predictions - Week 4
TBURGESS replied to do or die's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Toronto at Ottawa... Durie, Owens, Barnes out, where will Toronto get it's offense from? Ottawa wins their home opener. Hamilton at Calgary... Anyone choosing Hamilton? Should be over early. Montreal at BC... Montreal's D's front 7 will eat BC's O line up. Can Smith create enough offense to win? I think so. Edmonton at Winnipeg.. . Should be the game of the week. I'll choose Winnipeg based on home field and special teams. -
Bombers have a top offense. Esks have a top defense. Bombers have an average O line. Esks have an elite front 7. Bomber offense doesn't turn the ball over much. Esks defense creates turnovers. Esks have an average offense with big play capability. Bombers have an above average defense with big play capability. Esks run game is based on Reilly running. Bombers run stopping has been way better than expected. Esks have a poor O line. Bombers haven't been creating a lot of pressure with their front 7. Bombers FG kicking has been lights out. Esks, not so much. Bombers have home field advantage. Neither team has played as good a team as the other this year. I'm expecting a hard hitting, close game, with the Bombers coming out on top.

Arland Bruce sues CFL over concussions
TBURGESS replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Concussions are a real problem. Putting players back in who still have concussion symptoms is also a problem, but... often the players themselves hide the symptoms so they can play. IIRC, In the NFL suit some players admitted to 'gassing' the pre-season initial test, on the advice of their agents, so they wouldn't look impaired if the got a concussion. ISO brought up the helmet issue. In short, some if not most of the responsibility needs to lie with the players. I'm not sure how much merit this particular suit has and I don't understand why they would sue every team and the CFL in general when it's one or two teams who caused the perceived problem. Maybe the are hoping that other players get on board and it will it become a class action suit. The biggest question is will this become 'The' president setting suit? -
Comparative analysis - How bad is the Bombers OL?
TBURGESS replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Yes, but they aren't using 3 IMP's. -
If PI was only 10 yards, there would be no reason for DB's who were beat to let the receiver catch the ball after 10 yards. Just pull him down, take the penalty and go back to the game. I hate reviewing judgement calls. Even the review process doesn't seem to work as both of the PI reviews were PI and only one was actually called PI. I agree with Brown. You can find PI if you look at most plays. Down in the 4th? Throw deep until you get a challengeable PI then throw the flag.
