  1. Last year it was the top 2 or 3 QB's in the league getting paid. This year, it's the second or third tier guys. We're paying big bucks for a QB who only had 4 starts last year due to concussions. Ottawa's paying big bucks for a QB who only has 7 starts under his belt. Regina's paying big bucks for a QB with only 1 year as a starter. All of them could be considered over pays compared to 2018 levels.
  2. Most of you want McGuire as the backup. Hoping he's at least as good as Streveler was last year after a few starts under his belt, not like most of the rest of the backup QB's we brought into the league between Brock in the mid 70's and Streveler a couple of years back.
  3. It's amazing that folks don't see the huge potential for disaster going into a season with a QB who only played 4 games due to concussions last year, backed up by a guy who has only ever thrown 3 passes in the CFL. An experienced backup QB is needed to mitigate the risk and we need him for the entire training camp so he can learn our offence.
  4. For a backup here... Franklin, Pipkin, Jennings in that order and only on club friendly terms.
  5. Willie's got his cup. Maybe he'll go where the money is this year. I saw Walters talking about the new offer before the deadline system and he brought up Willie as an example. Sounded like he already knew that Jefferson would get other 'bigger' offers.
  6. Game to game comparison the Superbowl was a significantly better game than the Grey Cup this year. Back and forth. Lead changes. Big plays. Big mistakes. The half time show was way better as were the ads. If you're anything other than a Bomber fan this years Grey Cup was an absolute bust.
  7. Damn! It's what I was expecting, but I held out hope until today. Good luck to Streveler in the NFL.
  8. Collaros took all of that and more.
  9. The Bombers need to bring in a QB with some CFL experience. Pipkin's at least won a couple of CFL games. He's young. He has some upside. If we sign him, he may not even make it through camp, but we still need extra camp arms anyway.
  10. He's no one's first choice. If Ottawa can come to an agreement with Arbuckle, Nichols will be left with Toronto or wait until a starting QB goes down.
  11. $225K is a huge bonus. Masoli for example got $175K. All of the bonus money is already gone from the SMS. Bonuses don't get prorated over the season. Therefore, if Collaros goes on the 6 game, the $ saved are relatively small. It's the difference between 27.2K per game and 12K per game. {Whole salary / 18} vs {((Salary - Signing Bonus) /18) - (per game playing bonus) /18)) = 12K/game}
  12. Collaros at $450K with a bunch of it as playing time bonuses is good value. At $490K with 225K of it as a signing bonus and only 50K in playing bonuses is a big difference. The 225K signing bonus is off the SMS before a game is even played. If Collaros gets hurt in the first game like he did last year, the whole $225K is a cap loss. If he goes on the 6 game the SMS savings are based on his per game salary which is 225K less than his total salary.
  13. 3 teams, now 4, have paid big for their QB's. The rest are below Collaros' money despite the fact that Collaros only played 4 games last year. Compare Collaros' contract to Masoli's who played 6 games last year, not to the top 3 QB's in the league.
  14. Toronto's not a good place for Nichols either. He needs to be able to get comfortable behind a great O line to be successful.
  15. Nichols was $455K last year and that was overpaid. Collaros is $490K. That's below Reilly, BLM and Harris. Is Collaros, especially considering his injury history, the 4th best QB in the league? Only $50K in playtime bonuses considering the concussion issues is dumb IMO. I think we overpaid, but I'd rather have Collaros than Nichols.
  16. Call it the 'Once wore a blue jersey' syndrome.
  17. I doubt there's enough room in the QB budget to for Collaros @ $500K plus Nichols.
  18. Revisionist history. Weren't you one of those who said that not having Collaros last year in the playoffs didn't matter at all to our win?
  19. I give you Collaros as a guy who has zero knowledge of our system and completely sucked on their last team. That's what folks are hoping for.
  20. When your coach calls you to tell you the team is going a different direction, you've already played your last game for the team.
  21. I was hoping Claybrooks would be our next DC.
  22. Great signing. Happy to have him back.
  23. As you prove week in and week out. Buck the QB was a warrior, not the smartest guy on the field. He took the hits to make the plays which cost him a lot of playing time. Streveler might be able to play like that, but Collaros/Nichols wouldn't last 3 weeks.
