They can as long as there are still 7 other NI's on the field. In other words, they aren't counted as NI's for ratio purposes.

Collaros also took 2 big hits in the last season game and continued to play.
-
Most of the starting QB's got taken out by one hit this year. One hit ended Nichols season. One hit shortened Collaros' season to 1 game + 3 playoff games.
-
I don't say it with any more conviction than those who say we would have won it anyway with Nichols at QB. Collaros > Nichols. He hit the deep balls down the sidelines that Nichols doesn't hit very often. In each playoff game, those completions got us out of trouble and flipped the field. Collaros extended plays with his feet, while continuing to look down field. He threw medium to deep after moving the pocket. Instead of throwing the ball away, he gave our receivers a chance to catch the ball. He did all that against the best teams in the league. Lets play 'what if' for a single play. Nichols wouldn't have made that great TD pass in the last game of the season. He doesn't have the escapability, nor the deep ball accuracy. That play won us the game, lifted the team, and knocked Calgary into 2nd instead of 1st. Assuming we beat Regina, we play a rested Calgary team on a +15 day instead of -11 day which works in Calgary's favour.
-
It equally easy to go the positive route then say **** you to everyone when the team eventually wins, even if that's only once every 29 years or so.
-
We were lucky that Nichols got hurt. He wouldn't have got us past Calgary, let alone have won the cup.
-
The reports are that Nichols has a bonus due in January. We need to make the decision as to if we keep him or not before that date. If we aren't going to keep him, we need to cut him before that date so we don't give SMS money away to a player we aren't going to keep.

You can coach from a golf cart if you need to. Gotta have money behind you if you retire early. Pension isn't usually paid until 65 and I doubt being a CFL player then a CFL coach gives you a ton of capital or a big pension at the end.
-
Hall is only 59. Kinda early to retire from coaching.
-
Jason Mass would be my first choice for OC. The other 3 have zero CFL OC experience.
-
The rumour I read before the GC was Campbell to BC. Maybe that's changed now that Edmonton has an opening. 3 HC jobs available and Toronto's not included in the list. Lots of opportunity for PLAP and MOS if they want it.
-
That doesn't change the fact that Nichols, especially coming off of a throwing shoulder injury, isn't worth $450-500K. All the QB's are huge risks for different reasons. Masoli because he's coming off of an injury and because he's only looked great in one offence and that's not the offence we currently run. Collaros for his concussion history. Nichols for his injury history, lack of pocket presence, and the fact that he'd rather play it safe than throw a possible pick. I'd got Arbuckle/Streveler but I'd bet the Bombers go Nichols/Streveler and overpay Nichols.

I'd pass on Nichols at 450K let alone 500K. Collaros not only took the deep shots, he completed the deep shots. That was the difference in our offence and all on Collaros.

Streveler's quickly becoming my favourite Bomber.

An open letter to Darian Durant
TBURGESS replied to Eternal optimist's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
No it's not. Beta was clearly technically superior to VHS. My Beta machine even skipped ads automatically on taped TV shows. VHS won because it was cheaper so more folks bought it. Saskatchewan is not clearly superior to anything. -
It's a team game. You don't NEED a vet QB to win and having a vet QB doesn't mean you're going to win. Hamilton and Regina got to first in their divisions on the backs of young QB's, not vet guys. BC was last in the west behind THE vet QB.
-
Glad I didn't disappoint. I wouldn't have had said anything if someone didn't go back to find a post to take a shot at me (I did get Hamilton as 1st in the east and Winnipeg as 3rd in the west and I might have been right about the rest if we didn't trade for Collaros.). Today should be about the Grey Cup win, not taking shots at poster's you don't like. Shouldn't be about the Riders either. Their season ended last week.
-
I'm happy to be wrong in this case. Then again, I've been mostly right for 28 out of the last 29 years. Cheers!
-
I'm in my 60's. Better not take 29 years to win another cup, cuz I'll be dead before that happens and this will be my last Bomber cup of my life.
-
To all the fans who saw their first Bomber Grey Cup win.... Welcome to the club. We've been waiting for you to join us for a long time. That wasn't just a win. It was total dominance. One of, if not the most lobsidded Grey Cup victory in recent memory. Now, onto figuring out how to repeat next year. 😁
-
Congrats to the Bombers. Great job! I couldn't be happier tonight.

In 2 years Harris' PED suspension will also be mostly forgotten, except by angry Bomber fans. -
O'Shea - Walters - Verbal Agreement
TBURGESS replied to Ridermania's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
IMO, Walters is the main reason we're going to play in the cup this year. Collaros has been THE difference maker on offence and for the first time in recent memory, we upgraded our team throughout the year instead of standing pat. I'm specifically pointing to the changes in the DB's from the mid point of the season until the end of the season. Without those changes we are watching instead of playing in the cup.
