I didn't like Nichols silly walk any more than I liked Jefferson's taking the long way to the end zone. I'm a 'pretend you've been there before and are going back' kind of guy.
-
A couple of FTR's: He got 155 yards, not 250. If he had played 4 quarters that would be 200, not 250 yards. Streveler put up more points in his less than 1/3 of playing time. Folks who question Nichols doesn't necessarily hate him. (I don't) How many points we've scored isn't a Nichols stat. It's a team stat. 133 of our points are off turn overs. Streveler has scored more TD's than Nichols through the air and on the ground. Some were short yardage that were set up by Nichols. Wins aren't a QB stat either. They are a team stat. Flame away.😎

Good signing for them.

Bombers sign Geoff Gray to a 3 year deal
TBURGESS replied to bigg jay's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Excellent signing. -
There you go again. Confusing team goals with QB play. Reilly is a better QB on a worse team and the discussion wasn't about Reilly anyway. For the love of dog, you're reading comprehension is poor. I loved that we won. It was a great win. We destroyed them. All that being said, Nichols didn't have a great game and that's all I was saying in the first place. Ottawa also rushes a lot. Powell is the leading rusher in the league right now and has more rushes than Harris. Trevor Harris has 9 300 yard games this season alone. Nichols has 1 300+ yard game in his last 19 starts. I didn't say that Nichols never throws TD's. I agree that it's better to hand the ball off when you get close if you have good RB. In fact, I'd rather see us punch the ball in on the ground than give Nichols 2 throws from the 5 because rushing has a higher chance of success. Nichols has 16 passing TD's and 1 rushing in 12 starts. Streveler has 10 passing and 8 rushing in 3 starts. I didn't say Nichols can't throw deep. I said he isn't accurate when he throws deep. PLAP is calling deep balls. Nichols is missing them. It doesn't matter how many deep threats we have. When they are open, our QB needs to get the ball to them. BTW: Reilly's numbers on deep balls are down because he throws a lot of 50-50 balls so they are often contested catches. Nichols numbers are lower and he doesn't throw many 50-50 balls. Nichols is 7th in deep ball completion percentage. I'm not calling for Nichols head. The only time I did that was after the Banjo bowl when I wanted Streveler to start the Montreal game. Yah, we score a lot of points. 131 of them are off of turn overs which is best in the league. It's not about Nichols playing great. It's about the team around him playing great.

That's not the way it works and you should know it. It's got nothing to do with your stupid made up scenario. It's got to do with the way Nichols actually played yesterday. He got 155 yards passing, half of it on one play. We won because the defense scored, got 5 turnovers and because the backup QB put up more points than Nichols did. If our backup QB had started, we still would have won that game. The win had almost nothing to do with Nichols performance. The best you can say is he hit a deep ball and didn't turn the ball over. That's a pretty low bar for a starting QB. Just because you asked I'd take Reilly over Nichols. Any thinking CFL fan would. Reilly would put up more 300 yard games in our offense behind our offensive line with our receivers than Nichols ever will. You're confusing QB play with team play and you used to be better than that.

I guess you missed the bomb to Dressler and the big run to the 1 that got us 14 points before the 4th. We didn't move the ball in the second half with or without Nichols because we were not taking any chances. The int was a bad play, but the run was something that Nichols just can't do. Streveler was also playing without Harris and Dressler in the 4th, two big contributors in our offense.
-
Sure, the W was the most important thing. That doesn't mean that Nichols played all that well. He hit the bomb then missed his next 3 deep balls. I don't think that Nichols was a difference maker in that game. I don't think it would have mattered much if Streveler had played the whole game instead of Nichols. It would have still been a big win because it was the defense that set the tone and won the game. Heck, Streveler put up 14 points in just over a quarter of work to Nichols 10 in just under 3 quarters.
-
That was a month ago and I was one of them. I was happy to see Streveler, LaFrance and Peterman get the 4th quarter yesterday.
-
Actually, most around here want Nichols to start because we've won the last 4 games.
-
Not really. Hit one big play. Would have been thrown for around 200 yards if he'd played the whole game. Led the team to 10 points which was enough to win, but then again the 7 that the defense got and the 14 that Streveler got were enough to win too.
-
Only threw for 155 yards including the 72 yard bomb. You're easy to please.
-
Good choices. I'd go with Streveler over Sayles because QB is the harder position to play, but it's close. I'd also go with Medlock.
-
Seriously? I hope you take this personally... I think you are an idiot and that you legitimately don't know anything about football, because you don't.
-
Ya, he won, but only because he was on a dominant team. Great name tho. 😀
-
I hated that Burgess guy. When the best thing you can say about a QB's performance is that they didn't turn the ball over... That's not very high praise.
-
At least get the arithmetic right. He played 3 quarters. (150/3)*4=206. Half of his yardage was on one play, so not sure he even gets to 200. BTW: When was the last time you saw a QB hit a 70+ yard bomb and not make even 250 yards?
-
Not much to analyze or argue about when we win 31-0. Everyone's happy.
-
Bighill - All over the field. Created the first turnover. 8 Tackles. Loffler - 2 Int's, say no more Streveler - TD's thru the air and on ground. HH - Adams 72 yard TD and drew a PI that kept a drive going.
-
We know what Matt (Avg 219 YPG) looks like without his top receiver. Just look at last year when Adams went down or this year when Dressler went down. BLM (Avg 295 YPG) looked great until his 4th receiver went down. Reilly (Avg 307 YPG) is struggling because his OL isn't picking up the blitz, because Walker is down, and because the lost Bowman and Zylstra in the off season.

Looksl like it's Lulay - https://montrealgazette.com/sports/football/cfl/bc-lions/b-c-lions-lulay-feeling-good-expected-to-return-from-dislocated-shoulder/wcm/fb1c9f57-cc6f-450b-963a-e3e58cd54444

Cuz that's exactly the same thing. All QB's are trying to hit the gulls. Once or twice a season they do. {Insert eye roll meme here}
-
I'll bet that Dressler uses that tactic every time he gets a chance, because it's a good tactic. I'll bet that every inside receiver does too. Heck, we had plays designed like that in high school football back in the '70's. Once, maybe twice a season, league wide, the DB runs into the post. If you don't see the element of luck in it, I can't change your mind.

Regular Season Bomber News & Discussion
TBURGESS replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Apparently, we can't offer off season bonuses until the new CBA is reached (https://www.cbc.ca/sports/football/cfl/cfl-stop-paying-players-off-season-bonuses-1.4505416). That likely means that we won't be signing many players until it's been signed. -
Sure it is. Every receiver should have it in their repertoire and every DB should know where they are on the field.
