You should do some research on this. Canada taxes it’s highest earners at one of the highest rates in the world. They pay a higher percentage of their own income and the greatest share of national income. I heard an interview on the radio the other day about National Pharmacare plan with professor from Carleton. I believe the number quoted was the top 40% of earners pay over 80% of the taxes paid. These are also the most mobile individuals and most likely to leave if they feel being taxed too much. What would be great is for government to start spending our money as if there is a finite amount of it and stop asking for more all the time. I believe the clip is this first section with professor Ian Lee geoff-currier/great-mood/embed?style=cover" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="180"></iframe>

Absolutely. Many of my American friends that I talk to regularly had household only dinners, no one that I know when home or had kids coming home. Many are disgusted and fearful of what they see around them.

The order states that retailers must stop selling non-essential items as of midnight Friday. By Saturday they must not even be able to try and purchase them. Basically if you take a TV or gaming system to the till now, they have to refuse to sell it to you. By tomorrow they have to have blocked your access to even try and purchase in store. As an essential retailer that’s volume is about 95% essential items but has lots of non-essential items on display this is a total pain in the arse. We spent much of yesterday removing access to certain items and today will finish.

I'm pretty sure I heard Quebec had done the same thing, possibly 2035.

I’m sure there is more to the story but in the end what matters is another 20 hospitality staff are out of work. I feel for the more than any, they have few prospects of new employment anytime soon.

They have another location on Pembina. I think the pandemic only sealed their fate. I have been too or picked up food from every restaurant in the complex they are in but never them and I love wings. Little Bones is farther away and I would go there 100 times before Wild Wings. You do have to wonder about a landlord that rather have an empty space during a pandemic that work out a rent reduction with a 10 year tenant.

That is awesome trolling. I especially love the Sheetz GC request...

Oh please can it be Thanksgiving instead?

Relieved that this process has been mostly peaceful. Glad to admit I was wrong on the rioting, hoping I stay wrong the entire week.

I got a text from a friend in PA, 6:30am he arrived at the poll and was already 7th in line. Do we start an over/under on riots/deaths? How far has their image dropped that I would even make such a statement as a joke...

New restriction in the North and WPG Schools. Northern Regional Health Authority and Churchill: RESTRICTED New COVID-19 public health orders will be issued for the Northern health region and Churchill by the Chief Provincial Public Health Officer. These orders will come into effect Monday, Oct. 26, 2020 and remain in effect for a minimum of two weeks. Under the new orders: The maximum size of gatherings is reduced to five people. This applies to ceremonies such as weddings and funerals and social events like banquets and receptions, as well as informal gatherings such as dinners and house parties. Gatherings involving more than five persons may take place if: the number of persons attending does not exceed 30 per cent of the usual capacity of the place or premises where the gathering is held; the place or premises where the gathering is held is physically divided into separate areas which contain no more than five persons each; and persons in each area are prevented from coming into close proximity with persons in another area during the gathering as well as when entering or leaving. Casinos and bingo halls must close. Entertainment facilities with a license under the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act that requires the licensee to present live entertainment must close to members of the public, with the exception of providing food for take-out or delivery. Other licensed businesses must limit occupancy to 50 per cent of their usual capacity. The maximum occupancy of retail businesses is limited to 50 per cent of their usual capacity. The maximum occupancy of restaurants is limited to 50 per cent of their usual capacity. The maximum occupancy of personal service businesses is limited to 50 per cent of their usual occupancy or one person for each 10 square metres of the premises that is open to the public, whichever is less. Operators of a restaurant or licensed premises, theatre, museum, gallery, library, personal service business, concert hall, or fitness facility are required to keep contact information for members of the public attending their premises and maintain those records for 21 days to support contract tracing. Individuals in the Northern health region must also: Wear a mask in all indoor public places. Stay home when sick. Practice social distancing, hand washing/sanitizing and cough etiquette. Follow public health guidance on travel and self-isolation. Vulnerable people, such as seniors, are encouraged to exercise additional caution. Previous provisions in place for all other sectors, not listed above, in this region remain in place. Further direction or additional restrictions may put in place by public health at any time. Winnipeg Schools... In addition, the following measures will be put in place for schools in the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region and the Northern health regions under the Restricted Level (Orange), effective Oct. 26, 2020: Schools must ensure two meters of physical distancing to the greatest extent possible, and adjust classroom space as necessary; excess furniture must be removed from classrooms to create additional space; other spaces within schools must be repurposed to accommodate more distancing (e.g., multipurpose rooms, empty rooms, shared spaces, common areas, and libraries). Extracurricular activities are only permitted if all learning and distancing requirements have been met. If these activities continue, established guidelines must be followed and, in the case of sports, participants should maintain distance when not active. Teachers and staff who move across cohorts of students, including substitute teachers, are required to wear medical masks. Medical-grade disposable masks have been issued to all schools. N95 masks are not required. Indoor choir and the use of wind instruments are not permitted. All field trips must be postponed or cancelled. Blended learning (in-class and online) for grades 9 to 12 where distancing cannot be achieved will continue as per status quo. K-8 students may be offered a temporary remote learning option for the duration of the Restricted level (Orange). All other public health measures will still in effect. Public health officials also advise: an outbreak has been declared at Arborgate School, 70 Normandeau Bay in LaBroquerie, and the school has been elevated to orange on the province’s #RestartMB Pandemic Response System; an outbreak has been declared at Ochekwi Sipi Personal Care Home, Fisher River Cree Nation due to a positive case in a health care worker. The facility has been elevated to red on the province’s #RestartMB Pandemic Response System and additional protocols have been put into place; and the outbreak at Bethesda Place personal care home has been declared over.

The problem with Dougald's quote is that is patently false. Business as usual? The government has reduced capacity, mandated masks shortened the operating hours and is looking to regulate noise levels as well. They are trying everything they can to keep people employed while trying to balance public health. They have said time and time again that it is safe to go out IF you follow all the recommended public health directives. It will come to the point that people follow along and these business will be able to stay open under these guidelines or they will be forced to close. I still feel restaurant dining with family is safe, not sure I would want to go hang out in a lounge with 9 others that I only see occasionally and don't know what they do the rest of the time.

It’s possible but what would it be? Can’t justify closing schools when there isn’t transmission there. Can’t force businesses to close without federal wage support for 100’s of thousands that just isn’t there. I think we stay where we are until we see rampant transmission in a sector or our hospitalizations are over 100 and climbing. This is what they have been planning and preparing for the last 6 months. We all just need to be better when we are out. Even today I saw 12 cars at one house, can’t believe each of those only had 1 person in it and 2 lived there.

24 in hospital 4 in ICU.

That fact that 2 weeks in to code orange the case counts are still rising is a little alarming. Manitoba is likely in a unique position as far as hospitalizations. We have an empty hospital set up as a dedicated CV19 hospital if needed. The old Women’s Pavilion at HSC was closed in December when the new Women’s Hospital opened. We have greater capacity that we normally would if required. Normal ICU beds available in MB is 89.

Some pretty interesting stats shared by Dr Rousin today. Of the current hospitalizations the age range is 17 to 88. Patients in ICU include people in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Not just one demographic is having serious outcomes. Also not all have pre existing conditions that make them more susceptible to serious outcomes. If you have a chance these are almost always a good listen. https://youtu.be/Vu1mILB65Ks

Sorry, I don’t get the reference. (too young or didn’t enough shits about US politics then).

Is Garrety an actual Dr? He sure sounded like a campaign hack doing that update. Chuckling and chortling at reports who keep asking important intelligent questions that he’s trying to hard trying to give real answers too. If any of those Drs have real spines they’d report him to the AMA and have his license revoked.

The 20 -39 age bracket as well. I was quite surprised by that.

Sadly, even if they had decided on plexiglass 2 months ago they would have had to open schools without it. Material is in short supply and getting the shield made takes time. Schools / government can't just go buy them from anyone, they would have to tender it and such before the design could be created and made. Was at a restaurant last night that finally was able to get plexi installed between booths and has been waiting for over 4 weeks since they ordered it.

Not to belittle the point but you're wrong. 6 Months ago they suspended school for 3 weeks expecting kids to return after a little more than one incubation period thinking it would be safe. The information and severity was changing so fast all they could do was extend that. I don't know what you do for a living or your past experience but you can only react to this situation. There has been very little time for pre planning as it really requires having all the information in hand to make a decision and move forward with a concrete plan. On a national level for the first time in my life I will give a Liberal government credit, they made decisions but as they got more information and feedback they adjusted and changed at a pace unheard of in Canadian Government EVER. Provincially we weren't quite as adept but always looked to finds the gaps to find what support wasn't being offered and tried to supply those supports. I feel for you that your division hasn't provided the information or support you feel you need. I feel very differently about RETSD. My biggest criticism of any pandemic response plan I have seem from anyone is the need for people to have a plan for every possible situation predetermined. Sometimes you have to remain flexible and know that decisions will be made with the best information available at any given point in time and that the response to a second situation may be different than the first based on if the information has changed. With regards to the school system please remember, many of those people spent 100's of hours working this summer for a salary that is based on 10 months of the year. They basically volunteered their time to try and provide a safe positive environment for your child to return. If your child was anything like mine he/she likely needed to be back for his/her emotional well being as well as your own. We will get through this and hopefully a better society is what we are left with, some days I am very hopeful of this, some days not so much.

I was surprised last night when my G3 told me that he and most of the class keep them on all day now. First week it was only when moving between classes but the kids themselves are making the decision to wear the masks. I am pretty damn proud of our kids. Saying they had 6 months (not just you but over and over again I have heard it) is a red flag for me. 6 Months ago were were just finding out about the pandemic, today we are still learning. Saying they had 6 months and couldn't get it done is a misplaced criticism of people that are working very hard and making decisions based on information that is changing every day sometime multiple times a day. I really think we should be giving more praise and appreciation for the many civil servants and school administrators that have had to put their own family in the background while they worked all summer trying to find solutions and options. I honestly believe that all our officials are doing their best and have done a damn fine job with the information they have. Financial resources have not been held back and money is being spent on any possible solution. We are not talking about a disease that has been studied for decades and we have established best practices and are ignoring them. This is new and different and most everyone is working to protect our communities based on the current information and situation. Overall Manitoba has had an excellent response to the pandemic and I'd much rather be here than anywhere else in Canada or the world frankly.

It seem that the info released early today wasn't 100% accurate. This student had attended testing prior to the start of school and was advised of the positive result while at school and immediately left to isolate. Something I didn't know is that people without symptoms do not need to self isolate if they have been tested and are awaiting results.

I’m not sure what you are getting at or why you would quote me. I don’t believe I used YYC’s status as an international hub as a reason for their higher case numbers.
