  1. The problem with Dougald's quote is that is patently false. Business as usual? The government has reduced capacity, mandated masks shortened the operating hours and is looking to regulate noise levels as well. They are trying everything they can to keep people employed while trying to balance public health. They have said time and time again that it is safe to go out IF you follow all the recommended public health directives. It will come to the point that people follow along and these business will be able to stay open under these guidelines or they will be forced to close. I still feel restaurant dining with family is safe, not sure I would want to go hang out in a lounge with 9 others that I only see occasionally and don't know what they do the rest of the time.
  2. It’s possible but what would it be? Can’t justify closing schools when there isn’t transmission there. Can’t force businesses to close without federal wage support for 100’s of thousands that just isn’t there. I think we stay where we are until we see rampant transmission in a sector or our hospitalizations are over 100 and climbing. This is what they have been planning and preparing for the last 6 months. We all just need to be better when we are out. Even today I saw 12 cars at one house, can’t believe each of those only had 1 person in it and 2 lived there.
  3. 24 in hospital 4 in ICU.
  4. That fact that 2 weeks in to code orange the case counts are still rising is a little alarming. Manitoba is likely in a unique position as far as hospitalizations. We have an empty hospital set up as a dedicated CV19 hospital if needed. The old Women’s Pavilion at HSC was closed in December when the new Women’s Hospital opened. We have greater capacity that we normally would if required. Normal ICU beds available in MB is 89.
  5. Some pretty interesting stats shared by Dr Rousin today. Of the current hospitalizations the age range is 17 to 88. Patients in ICU include people in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Not just one demographic is having serious outcomes. Also not all have pre existing conditions that make them more susceptible to serious outcomes. If you have a chance these are almost always a good listen. https://youtu.be/Vu1mILB65Ks
  6. Sorry, I don’t get the reference. (too young or didn’t enough shits about US politics then).
  7. Is Garrety an actual Dr? He sure sounded like a campaign hack doing that update. Chuckling and chortling at reports who keep asking important intelligent questions that he’s trying to hard trying to give real answers too. If any of those Drs have real spines they’d report him to the AMA and have his license revoked.
  8. The 20 -39 age bracket as well. I was quite surprised by that.
  9. Sadly, even if they had decided on plexiglass 2 months ago they would have had to open schools without it. Material is in short supply and getting the shield made takes time. Schools / government can't just go buy them from anyone, they would have to tender it and such before the design could be created and made. Was at a restaurant last night that finally was able to get plexi installed between booths and has been waiting for over 4 weeks since they ordered it.
  10. Not to belittle the point but you're wrong. 6 Months ago they suspended school for 3 weeks expecting kids to return after a little more than one incubation period thinking it would be safe. The information and severity was changing so fast all they could do was extend that. I don't know what you do for a living or your past experience but you can only react to this situation. There has been very little time for pre planning as it really requires having all the information in hand to make a decision and move forward with a concrete plan. On a national level for the first time in my life I will give a Liberal government credit, they made decisions but as they got more information and feedback they adjusted and changed at a pace unheard of in Canadian Government EVER. Provincially we weren't quite as adept but always looked to finds the gaps to find what support wasn't being offered and tried to supply those supports. I feel for you that your division hasn't provided the information or support you feel you need. I feel very differently about RETSD. My biggest criticism of any pandemic response plan I have seem from anyone is the need for people to have a plan for every possible situation predetermined. Sometimes you have to remain flexible and know that decisions will be made with the best information available at any given point in time and that the response to a second situation may be different than the first based on if the information has changed. With regards to the school system please remember, many of those people spent 100's of hours working this summer for a salary that is based on 10 months of the year. They basically volunteered their time to try and provide a safe positive environment for your child to return. If your child was anything like mine he/she likely needed to be back for his/her emotional well being as well as your own. We will get through this and hopefully a better society is what we are left with, some days I am very hopeful of this, some days not so much.
  11. I was surprised last night when my G3 told me that he and most of the class keep them on all day now. First week it was only when moving between classes but the kids themselves are making the decision to wear the masks. I am pretty damn proud of our kids. Saying they had 6 months (not just you but over and over again I have heard it) is a red flag for me. 6 Months ago were were just finding out about the pandemic, today we are still learning. Saying they had 6 months and couldn't get it done is a misplaced criticism of people that are working very hard and making decisions based on information that is changing every day sometime multiple times a day. I really think we should be giving more praise and appreciation for the many civil servants and school administrators that have had to put their own family in the background while they worked all summer trying to find solutions and options. I honestly believe that all our officials are doing their best and have done a damn fine job with the information they have. Financial resources have not been held back and money is being spent on any possible solution. We are not talking about a disease that has been studied for decades and we have established best practices and are ignoring them. This is new and different and most everyone is working to protect our communities based on the current information and situation. Overall Manitoba has had an excellent response to the pandemic and I'd much rather be here than anywhere else in Canada or the world frankly.
  12. It seem that the info released early today wasn't 100% accurate. This student had attended testing prior to the start of school and was advised of the positive result while at school and immediately left to isolate. Something I didn't know is that people without symptoms do not need to self isolate if they have been tested and are awaiting results.
  13. I’m not sure what you are getting at or why you would quote me. I don’t believe I used YYC’s status as an international hub as a reason for their higher case numbers.
  14. More info has come forward and it really shouldn’t be considered an infection in school. The student arrived at school on the first day without symptoms. Was contacted by public health they she was a close contact and needed to be tested. Really to me it shows that the systems in place are working correctly and as designed.
  15. I am assuming that is a shot at me. You can feel however you want but many of your rants are so hypocritical that it is hard to find any logic to them. How many cases/ clusters in Western Canada can be traced back to poor choices made by people from or visiting Alberta? How many cases in Kelowna were traced back to a single infected woman from Calgary that didn’t stay home for Canada Day? Yes, YWG doesn’t have much in the way of direct international flights but after the first month of repatriations how much did passenger traffic did Calgary handle? I just can’t get passed your ranting about the back to school plan and how at risk you as a bus driver were going to be and then a week in to school the only CMOH you will listen too is your own. I really have to wonder if your disbelief / trust of Dr Tam doesn’t come from some other place than her handling of Covid-19.
  16. A couple of things, Dr Tam has been at the forefront of the federal response. Had her messaging changed? Of course it has, as more has been learned about C-19 messaging should have change. Are you involved in random sexual encounters outside your normal bubble? That is what her suggestion about masking during sex was referring too. Also a message the echos something Dr Bonnie Henry of BC said weeks ago. Alberta has been one of the biggest **** shows the entire pandemic. Why you would believe that CMOH over any other is beyond me. You were very critical of the Alberta return to school plan yet want to believe that same CMOH over Dr Tam??? Wow... just wow!!!
  17. From what I understand any resident of a PCH or other long term care facility that tests positive is immediately moved to hospital to prevent spread. This isn't a true indication of how much care they need while there. Truly a proactive step to prevent the outbreaks from growing. Is there data to suggest it has been the same person? I don't think they report details on individual cases, many have been in ICU for short stints and then back to a care ward. Received news this morning that a friend from Iowa's wife was admitted to hospital this morning and is receiving O2 and IV fluids due to Covid. She's a nurse in a private DR's office, sounds like a positive patient came in last week and now most of the office including the DR are now positive.
  18. The struggle is not yours alone, you should have all of us to help you through it. As you have us numerous times in the past when we have needed help.
  19. Northern case is tied to a Prairie MTN Health known cluster. Testing was voluntary. As Mark indicated they were invited to come test and these numbers are not beyond what they expected to find. @Mark H. my thoughts and best wishes are with you and all your communities. Thank you for your many contributions to our combined COVID response.
  20. I’m not sure if this has been reported here but Monday during Dr Roussin’s regular briefing he stated that people being tested without symptoms or too soon to symptom onset is producing false negative results. He stated that the ideal time for testing was 24 hrs after symptom onset. They are predicting that by the end of August that they will have tested 10% of the population and figure it gives an accurate picture of the spread.
  21. I am not 100% sure but as I understand that was the threshold for the $1200 payout. Over $100 000 got more... They have also added all kinds of other smaller packages including one for livestock producers that paid a certain amount / head of cattle etc.
  22. I can tell you I have never disliked Alberta and growing up used to visit family every summer and I looked forward to it all year. Now Albertans have been so self centred and not caring about others I have been forced to change plans to visit family and friends in BC. Smaller communities are so fed up with Albertans that they aren’t welcoming of any visitors right now. F U Alberta!!!
  23. For those curious as I was I searched a bunch of past updates for hospitalization numbers. May 22nd is the most recent I found with 1 person in hospital, May 23 is reported as 0 in hospital. If there were any hospitalizations during the time since they were on any of the days I sampled and I don't have time to check them all.
  24. I am curious (although not enough to check) when the last time we had someone in hospital with Covid 19. Memory tells me May but I could be wrong.
  25. Couple more ice cream adventures. Dug and Betty’s is just excellent. No other way to put it. Top quality ice cream with generous portions. Sour cherry with dark chocolate is my new favourite, the pistachio does not disappoint. Tonight tried Sweet Annie’s for the first time. Bus stop out front, routes 19 and 50. It’s about a block North of Fermor on Westmount (South side is Beaverhill). Generous portions and the option of some baked treats as well. Both Vegan and Keto dessert options available. We’ve completed our list of new to try, anyone else have a “secret” favourite place?
