  1. That sounds a bit more saner than "hundreds of billions". I always take what Tides and Sierra say and divide by 10 to get the actual. Some multiple by 10 it appears. There should be a political will to get oil companies to pony up the $3 billion needed. I agree.
  2. I think the oil companies should be on the hook for it no question. Are they not? If not, why not?
  3. Several hundred billion eh? The most "out there" environmental websites I can find say that the cost is more likely $40 billion. Hundreds of billions seems to be really really on the high side. Did you look into that number at all or know where it came from? I will agree though that clean up costs need to be dealt with. I wouldn't classify them as a subsidy though. If you are talking about the First Nations at Fort Chip that has long been proven to be a hoax. The doctor that made the fake "study" was canned several years ago. The cancer rates weren't higher. The whole "cancer rates are higher"thing was a fraud. The Chief now is a big oil sands proponent and all is good. https://www-cbc-ca.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4613003?amp_js_v=a2&_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQCCAE%3D#referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&_tf=From %1%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbc.ca%2Fnews%2Fcanada%2Fedmonton%2Ffort-mcmurray-first-nations-and-m%C3%A9tis-pipelines-1.4613003 It's sad that these fake news stories get so much attention, and the exposure of the fraud gets so little attention. You would have known that you had been played! I agree. But I have gotten used to it from the man-made climate change crowd. They hate being challenged, on anything. And either run away when called out, or claim you are "attacking" them. Whatever happened to defending a position? Why is that so unacceptable? Well I certainly wouldn't say anything about "libtards" as that would imply that you guys aren't smart. That isn't the case. You guys are smart. I just think that you might have let innate confirmation biases cloud your judgement. It's good to question accepted norms. It's good to have conversations with those who disagree with you. It's good to listen to the other side. Blocking people and running away when questioned just leads to closed minds never opening. I don't block people, ever.
  4. Not sure why it would be me. I wasnt the one blocking people for calling into question highly questionable statements. The Syria thing really threw me for a loop. Don't get that at all.
  5. Mark/mods: Is it possible to hive off this union stuff and put it in a separate thread? Just curious. Thanks.
  6. Thanks for that. I figured as much regarding the gender pay gap but thanks for confirming.
  7. Lol. This is just hogwash. You think doctors and lawyers should unionize? They would never do that. Its ridiculous. Like the gender pay gap, I have never seen this. I have seen businesses go under after unionizing. Many times. It clearly is not a black and white issue. I've seen many companies certify and then de-certify after unionizing and realizing that they were lied to, and all they had after unionizing was a parasitic union sucking dues off their cheques. I am not saying that unions don't have their place in certain circumstances, but now with all of the employment laws in place, paying union dues to a union that does nothing is passe. The union is going the way of the dinosaur.
  8. Sounds good. How much was related to the union vs how much was related to the company needing you? And more on topic - were you making more than women doing the same work?
  9. Run your own business sometime and let me know how that works out for you. I am all for rewarding loyalty but in the unions case it's not even about that. In the real world you need more than just one criterion. Despite what the union propagandists say.
  10. Not sure why the Jets would trade Roslo. I am going to chalk this up to general ignorance in the Toronto sports media about how Winnipeg operates and their players in general. That being said I am surprised that Mark Wheeler and Blake Trouba aren't on the list.
  11. Rewarding people purely for seniority and not for merit is the best way to lose good people and keep bad ones. This solves the non-existent pay gap issue I guess, but results in mediocrity rotting your business from within. As I said, seen this many times.
  12. Lol. Everyone eh? Sorry but I've seen far too much to the contrary to ever agree with this statement. Unions can be a good thing, or they can be parasitic and cause far more trouble than they are worth. Not a black and white issue.
  13. Lol. You sound like a true kool-aid drinker. From what I have seen here in BC what they are really working for is for their own betterment and self-perpetuation, and the really bad ones like the BCTF are now full-blown political organizations blathering on about supporting Palestinians instead of teachers and kids. But this is off topic. If you read back you will see that unions wouldn't have any sort of gender pay gap as seniority is the only governing factor for pay. Merit is not rewarded, and so it would be impossible for someone to argue that gender was the reason that they were being paid less for doing the same job.
  14. Beer at Rockets games is $8. At least it was last year. Haven't gone to a game this year as Rockets are abysmal. Any idea how this lawsuit is going to affect the WHL re: paying the players? Word is that it's going to make many franchises unviable. And then you have concussion lawsuits etc...
  15. I had always heard of this "gender pay gap" but had never seen it. No one I knew had ever seen it. Judging by the fact that no one is answering Brandon's challenges no one here has ever seen it either, though some doggedly want to believe that it exists. Almost like some sort of religious dogma. Until I saw the video that I posted to start this thread, I hadn't really thought or cared much because as I said I never really saw any proof that it existed. I wanted to hear what others thought of the video and what th feminist was saying. Sadly it appears that no one watched it or had any comments, and no one is bothering to try and refute her comments either. The pay gap exists, that's it. I just can't buy that. It's a really bold accusation, that seems to have little to no foundation, in North America or Europe anyway. But here's a question for you - if you believe that something is true, but have no basis whatsoever for your belief, other than what political parties you trust are telling you is true, wouldn't you want to be open to changing your mind, especially if you found out what you believe is a lie, fabricated to victimize a certain subset of voters? Doesn't it bother you to be used like that?
  16. Yeah I don't get it. I question a pretty silly statement about oil subsidies and I get twisted man-diapers in response. If you are going to make statements that are absurd, be prepared to lose the man-diapers and give some reasoned explanations.
  17. Thanks for giving me the useless response I expected. Of course you blocked me. You just want to hear what conforms to your bias, and run away screaming from anyone who questions your unsupprtable statements. Syria. Really?
  18. So much don't know what the hell you are talking about. "Heavily subsidized "? Let me guess, now you will point me to some fake study conducted by people paid to lie to show ne that because oil companies can deduct their expenses this qualified as "subsidies". I have seen these bogus reports before and they are complete bogus nonsense.
  19. No idea what any of this has to do with the man-made climate change hypothesis? Especially Syria?
  20. Last year's Jets had a Patrik Laine that had some confidence.
  21. I don't think its "cooked up". That would be over-simplistic and disingenous. It is obvious that there were a lot of shysters that cooked up doomsday apocalyptic scenarios ( like Al Gore) who grew fat literally and their wallets fat thanks to rivers of public money being diverted straight into their pockets. The bankruptcy of Solyndra remains a huge stain on the Obama presidency.
