  1. Speaking of New York, 2016 we're in New York and we're walking through Greenwich and suddenly there are all these old cars on the street and people wearing old clothes, and we realize that we are walking through a live movie set. Some guy motions us to keep going as they are between takes. We stop to look around a bit on the set and the wife says "I wonder if anyone famous is in this movie" and from behind us a familiar voice goes "yes, in fact there is" and we turn around and there's Kevin Spacey standing there. Our mouths drop, and he takes off on one of those scooter things down the street to his trailer. Then Nicolas Hoult walks by us and the wife says "that guy looks familiar" and I said yeah I think that's the dude from that Mad Max show. They were filming "Rebel in the Rye". The Spacey story isn't as cool now unfortunately.
  2. If that counts then every single concert I've been to in my life counts as a brush with celebrities. But if it's just stand-up, the coolest stand-up I ever saw was in New York at a comedy club, when Amy Schumer jumped on stage totally unannounced and did a new set, 10 feet in front of me. That was pretty neat. Best stand-up routine I ever saw was Gilbert Gottfried, performing at some comedy club in Winnipeg in 1989. It's probably not around anymore. I can't even remember what it was called or where it was. It wasn't Rumors, that's all I remember.
  3. was it Brian Jack, and was he carrying something over his shoulder in a body bag?
  4. ARCHIE WOOD! I watched Uncle Bob every day! Right after Sesame Street.
  5. they also showed him in the crowd with a beard and a camo hat on. Apparently he still goes hunting at 90 years old. I wish when they show him and go on about his coaching history they'd mention his success north of the border, but that would require admitting that Canada exists, a no-no on US broadcasts.
  6. Moose getting a big boost with Roslo, Hutch and Lemieux coming back. Expect the Moose domination to resume....
  7. and Taco seemed to always draft a few CFL players into his NFL Fantasy team every year too, including Joffrey Reynolds. The actor who played Taco was a Canadian, not sure if that was a coincidence.
  8. Splitting hairs - totally. Did you at least get the Peanuts joke? Hint - Charles Schultz.
  9. ????? Isn't Minneapolis in Minnesota? Or did Al Franken move it somewhere else? Sounds like we're arguing over
  10. Mississippi Burning was such a good movie.
  11. Here's a quote from a local celebrity (local to the game tonight anyway): If you have no heart, you have nothing. Heart is what keeps you from quitting on a bad day. Heart is what leads you to your destiny. - Prince
  12. Trouba and Petan for Point, Sergachev and a second rounder. Sounds good to me.
  13. Isn't that the actress who is married to Ryan Reynolds?
  14. Some have gone over there, and made it back into the NHL, like Radulov, and David Booth, which is still mystifying how he is back in the NHL. I watched that show "Hockey wives" and they followed Booth and another guy who went over to Russia to play. It did look pretty bush league over there. But hey, they're Russians, they are new to this whole capitalist thing.
  15. Babych for Neufeld....Selanne for Tverdovsky and Kilger...finally the hockey gods gave us a break...
  16. Gilbert Brule - now there's a high draft pick bust. Derek Roy used to be good. Not sure if he is anymore.
  17. Maybe we can get O'Reilly and a 1st for Petan...
  18. and pretty fresh for the playoffs if they roll with five lines...
  19. I was sure I read somewhere that he was having trouble fitting in with the Rochester team and was also not getting over the language barrier. Of course my google search to prove that I am not going crazy revealed nothing. Anyway, that's what I remember. Good to see him doing well now, and I think the point was that with Buffalo, they seem to be a developmental grave yard.
  20. too true. I can see players like Connor (who I realize wasn't part of the trade, just naming him to make a point), Roslo, Lemieux and Armia all being wasted on a team like that. Armia was definitely on a downward trajectory career-wise until we got him out of there and let him develop in a system where he felt wanted and had coaches who believed in him. He's been quite the pleasant surprise.
  21. 80 years? I am triggered right now! Leave those poor planks alone!!
  22. This might get Kane's attention.
