  1. listening to Buck right now on TSN 1290.... Buck felt that he had opportunities elsewhere come up - so it was time to move on. Is he going to be coaching? There have been inquiries across the league. Is it with Winnipeg? He won't say. He's not committed to anything right now.
  2. Just out of curiosity ... why? Doesn't strike me as cerebral enough to coach. You are right, there are so many people smarter than Buck that have coached in the CFL...
  3. LOL from Doug Brown: Congrats to @pierceQB11 on a great career & ur retirement! My favorite pic of the time we spent together: #Hugs pic.twitter.com/QwteJzqZmf
  4. I agree that this is a legitimate issue and if nothing else comes of this case, the publicity it attracts should help to shed a light on the plight of the mentally ill in this country. I've been reading some articles too about how immigrants with mental illnesses have an especially hard time getting help as they don't trust their systems back home and so therefore don't trust ours either. Li was definitely in that category, as he was known to shun "western" medicine. It would be interesting if someone would put a dollar figure on just how much more money should be spent in this area. I know no matter what sector of the government you ask, the answer is always "more", be it teachers, cops, ambulance drivers, doctors or janitors. Whatever we spend, it's never enough. But this does seem to be an area that is chronically underfunded, and very much misunderstood.
  5. Even though 2010 was a fail of a year and Buck was injured for a lot of it, I still remember the commanding presence he brought onto the field in his first game in Blue and Gold. When he took to the field with the offense for the first time, I was legitimately excited to see what he was going to do, and I remembered that sensation being the first time in a long time that I was excited about our offense. It's too bad he got so beat up, and by last season was a shadow of his former self. Though he did go out with a great last game last year against Edmonton, he got to play like the Buck of old for that last game with three passing TD's and one rushing TD and it was good to see.
  6. They tried to do a Regina combine but too many farmers showed up thinking it was a trade show.
  7. As much as I'm not a fan of Snidely Brown, I also don't think Buck's delivery is very good for radio. His quasi-stutter is kind of distracting. He'd be wasted in broadcasting, much rather see him bring that gung-ho attitude to the dressing room in a coaching capacity. I think he and O'Shea would get along really well.
  8. Great post. I know I've been to enough socials where the groom just sits there with a few of his buddies and ignores everyone else, so good on Buck for being a good host. I bet the catering was good too, if Danny and Buck's provided the eats. I always make a point of going to Buck's restaurant when I get into town, especially since it's only five minutes from the airport. Hope to see him on the sidelines in Blue and Gold this year (coaching attire).
  9. Ya, forgot about that ... maybe he can play in prison like Burt Reynolds and Adam Sandler LOL except that the prison team wouldn't even want him...he's not good enough.
  10. I get that there is a bias towards getting old Bombers to coach here (I'm guilty of it too) and we should always think with our brains and not our hearts but in this case I would say hiring him would be a hearts and brains decision, and a good one at that. Buck's not just a great guy, he's a guy that has management/coaching written all over him. Kind of like Steve Yzerman. I know the Bombers really liked him and didn't really want to trade him, and I think they just wanted to get him on a team that had a shot at a cup while he was still playing. Buck still lives in Winnipeg right? I saw him in some dental ad for Manitoba dentists a few days ago. I would think that this decision to retire is in conjunction with some sort of coaching position with Winnipeg.
  11. Do you have any ballpark figures for a salary for #2? It depends if your number 2 is evil or not. If so, then - $1 BILLION dollars....
  12. I toured an old jail in Fremantle Australia last year. The Aussies said during the tour that since the jail had closed the tactics in treating criminals in jail had changed and the prisoners were made to be much more comfortable and the focus was on rehabilitation instead of punishment, which they also said had made the re-offend rate increase by 20%. That's irrelevant in this case as Vince Li was never in jail (at least not for long) and if he goes off the deep end and turns into Hannibal Lecter again he won't care about jail time.
  13. Justin Goltz ‏@JustinGoltz 3h Eternally grateful for my yrs in Wpg. Will miss my teammates & the people of Wpg for always treating my family & I like their own. Thank you
  14. Drew Edwards ‏@scratchingpost 36m Quick analysis of Brohm trade: #Ticsts have a lot of young, promising QBs. The #Bombers do not. Also, Danny Mac must have liked him. #CFL
  15. What does Matt Dunigan know about playing QB??
  16. I think Goltz sunk himself with his sulking. And according to Walters his contract was too big.
  17. that is a good point - he meets all the criteria for Marcel - he's old and would accept being overpaid - and at least would give Hank something to throw to.
  18. so you are blaming Walters for Mack's mistake? What were we supposed to do? Wait for Hamilton to cut him and go into TC with only two QB's?
  19. Goltz was just too inaccurate on his throws. He'd make plays with his legs and then just miss his open receiver by a mile. That's something that I don't see changing, no matter who picks him up. I think JG was gone after he wasn't being used for short yardage anymore, his attitude kind of killed his shot, but also his ability or lack thereof. http://www.bluebombers.com/video/index/id/94829 Video on Goltz release per WBB website. Looks like he was too expensive for what the Bombers thought he would end up on the depth chart this year. I don't see Levi Brown listed on the roster either so I would guess he is gone.
  20. Chronic foot problems. His career likely over. So he should be signing with the Redblacks any day now.
  21. Yeah he was also commentating on the NFL playoff games as well for that channel. It was weird to see him on there, especially when they asked him about his coaching experience and if there were any regrets with decisions he had made in taking coaching jobs, and he answered immediately: "Winnipeg".
  22. I think that is pretty much a given. This guy needed to be on heavy meds for schizophrenia but instead he checked out of/ran away from the Ontario facility before he could be diagnosed. It raises an interesting question - just how much should the state interfere in the rights of the individual if they don't want to seek help for mental issues? Do we as citizens just sit back and wait until the mentally ill chop up and eat someone before we commit them to a facility? The problem with Li was that he didn't do enough to be forcibly committed, and didn't trust "western medicine" so he fell through the cracks, sort of.
  23. I guess I agree on this one - you can't really appeal the NCR, and the only other issue is letting him out unsupervised to be re-integrated, only five years after the fact. As I said earlier, no one really knows what is going to happen. I don't think that there is one person here who can truthfully say they'd be comfortable with their son or daughter taking a cross-Canada Greyhound bus ride with him, no matter what the doctors and mental health experts say. That's human nature, and in my view, nothing to be ashamed of, especially given the horrific nature of the crime.
  24. And I'm amazed that you want to introduce red herrings into this thread. If that's all you want to do, then please add nothing further to this thread.
