Guess the only question i have is we released him i guess, is he still our property? Technically no, but there seems to be an agreement to not poach other teams players who return to play a 5th season of university ball. Considering there is no minor league or development system for the CFL I think this should be an actual rule, not an unwritten one. Toronto picked up Peter Quinney (2009, 4th? round) after we sent him back to university, so there's nothing set in stone. And really, if they're willing to offer him a job and we're not, I'm not going to wag my finger at them. And Peter Quinney was no great loss. Kelly's draft choices were on par or even worse than his PR skills. oh man were they ever... I can't remember his name, but he basically picked an O-line because he had massive arms... I was pretty disappointed about that

Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?
James replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
sure he stayed healthy, but he wasn't nearly the same presence. I think we should see if Ottawa would give us 10th overall for him and take Demski second overall... Sign Goodrich and Keep Carter and Renaud around for depth. -
If Etch switches to a 3-4 I'd be interested to see what that brings... with one traditional MLB beside Wild and Unamba and Sears on the outside. We'd really need a NT though for that to work IMO

So who should take with the 2nd Can College draft pick?
James replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think it should b a combination of best overall and positional. sounds obvious know, but I think we need to look at what positions Canadians are most successful at in this league and draft the best Canadians in those positions. O-Line is obvious because it's a successful Canadian position as well as a dire need for this team. D-Line Receiver and Safety are others. Hopefully Bilukidi comes north, and guys like Newman and Lucas are ready to go. Landing Heenan would be a dream come true for this team. I definitely think we need to draft a couple hogs this year, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to Demski 2nd overall and an OL in the next round. I think Watson could easily fetch us Ottawa's 10th overall, and I certainly would love to see us trade for Gill's rights as well. -
I havent really had a chance to re-watch any games for a while... Hows Tyler looked on the other side?

Als @ Redblacks / Riderst @ Stampeders
James replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Als are really coming up big late in the year. Looks like we're going to have the second overall pick this year... Could be a huge rebuilding year for us if we manage to get Bilukidi and Mulumba here as well. If I were Walters I'd be after Ottawa's second rounder. -
Any one who watched Grigsby play here knows that it doesn't matter one bit what he does in Hamilton. Guy was too soft and too much of a sissy as a running back to be effective in Winnipeg. It's an easy position to recruit for, why settle for someone who goes down on contact that easy and hesitates before hitting the line of scrimmage? Any scouting department worth it's salt should be able to find runningbacks who can do the job. The fact that Cotton when given the ball looks better should show that Grigsby ain't worth worrying about. It's only two games, but realistically the guy (Cotton) has had limited reps and it does take some time to get your timing down in game speed, plus the whole offense was a train wreck in Edmonton (for some reason, Willy and the Offense match up extremely poorly against the Edmonton D - 3 points at home in their first game and 3 points in real time, 6 in garbage time, here in Edmonton). I hoping Cotton has another strong game. But.... I'll be watching Grigsby to see if he's a liar (the fact it was 'him' against the world here) or telling the truth. yeah, I'd chalk it up to the fact that they have a crazy powerful D-line, and we have a shitty offensive line

Yeah, I can see a bidding war for Brohm in the off season. Ottawa will probably be the most interested. could see Montreal being interested as well. I'm not overly sad about that though... Marve looks to have all the raw skills needed, and I've always had positive vibes on Porter, ever since that pre season game against us with Toronto.

How did Tyler look? still decent?

blew through some arm tackles too... something that Grigsby couldn't do

I'm a pretty big chad Simpson fan

It's not size, it's talent. Wild is not your prototypical MLB but he is playing damned well despite it. Turner isn't a behemoth at DL and he's fine. The guys we are using just aren't good enough. Anderson was playing well at DT but they lost him to injury and the replacements haven't been up to par. It's size and strength, they got rag dolled by bigger, stronger men. Line play always comes down to beating the guy across the line from you. then how come the OL was so poor when all Joe Mack did was draft or recruit the biggest strongest most athletic OL out there? There is much more to it than simply size and strength. If you suck you suck no matter how big and strong you are. Need talented people who can do what is asked of them it doesn't really matter if they're big or not. Blaming the size is what people do when they don't want to put any thought into their game analysis. The issues with what Etchevary does don't start with the preference to have smaller faster players. The things he does with his players is the issues that needs to be talked about first and foremost. You are as delusional as Etch if you think you can win with the right players in his defence. Every defence in the league and all the best ones are 43's built the traditional way for a reason. This has nothing to do with issues, it's common sense. what I am saying is that Etchevary has flaws in his defense that even bigger players won't fix. He intentionally leaves huge spaces uncovered. The guy should be replaced for that reason rather than his preference for smaller players, but no matter what you call you need talented people who can execute and right now we don't have people who can execute in several positions either. Yes you are right, the defensive scheme he runs is terrible, and talent can make up for size to an extent... but you are severely undervaluing big and strong players as well as being talented. Wild has played fairly well despite his size yes... but he's certainly not been an Henoc Muamba in the middle... Your kidding yourself if you think he's just as good as Henoc at stopping the run, or a guy like Joe Lobendahn in his prime. Wild is a fantastic undersized WLB. Theres no way he should be in the middle full time. As well, as much as I wanted to see Anderson and Turner together at DT, we should only have one of them in at a time with bigger traditional NT type beside the other... I wouldn't mind seeing one of them slimming down and playing End next season.

Lawless: Bombers need to sign Ben Heenan
James replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
no, everyone thinks we should, no one thinks we can -
Not losing interest, but very disapointed. The only time I didn't make games a priority to watch was last season

Lawless: Bombers need to sign Ben Heenan
James replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think Watson and Morely are our best options for trade bait and getting anything in return. Watson might be able to get us Ottawa's second rounder... They have brutal receivers and Watson is a legitimately good Canadian. Morely, while super mediocre at Guard and bad at Tackle, is a pretty darn good center. Wouldn't even consider trading him if we didn't pick Goosen this year though. I don't think Neufeld is good enough to be a starter for us, but He'd make a good 6th OL for us next season. We need to hit the jack pot in next years draft as far as OL. -
We obviously don't have a grey cup team this year.... I'm hoping for a high pick

Lawless: Bombers need to sign Ben Heenan
James replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Theres a strong Draft coming up... I think the best way to fix the O-line is draft the best OL available and just find a couple dominant Americans. If Heenan does hit FA, obviously you throw a truck load of cash at him, But I sincerely doubt that happens, And if he does hit FA, there will be 8 other teams trying to sign him so there's still no guarantee that he comes here anyway. -
Time For The CFL To Levy Fines On The Refs For Tacky Calls
James replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I never, ever thought I'd say this... but the reffing in the CFL is actually driving me more and more away from my beloved league and closer and closer to being more of an NFL fan -
I personaly love Saskatchewan as a province and I hope it doesnt develope to much... That's why I live in the prairies. I hate modern cities... I like small towns with everything you need and just a few short hours to cottage country However, the only posters here with shots below the belt and stirring things up are the bomber fans... Rider fans are being very respectfull considering the circumstances right now
