  1. CFLTime has been killing it with their video uploads so far this season, they just posted the game about an hour ago. Nice to have someone covering me if I can't watch live. The video starts a bit late, around nine minutes into the first quarter, but the very first play is that excellent Randle endzone play that I was talking about. Black's call on it is just as crap as 17to85 says, tho Forde at least gets it right on the replay.
  2. Oh, no doubt that it takes a ton of skill and timing to pull off, it's just that it's also penalty bait and I hate how important and prominent pass interference has become. I hate reflexively scanning for orange flags on any kind of incompletion where the db and receiver are within speaking distance.
  3. That run where he was hurt looked so awkward, I've never seen a guy springback-cut like that.
  4. There was a throw-behind to the endzone in the first quarter that he just casually reached back and flicked away. Fantastic play. Usually a throw-behind is a 50/50 shot at pass interference in the CFL. Not on #randleisland. Remember back in the good old days when quarterbacks tried to hit receivers in stride on deep balls? I hate the throw-behind. #oldguyrantsatclouds
  5. Nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of firearm deaths in the U.S. are suicides. good lord. That's six 9/11s a year. And it's not even counting all the people who try and fail.
  6. What if we took the notion of religion out of this? I've never seen any studies that really exhaustively break down shooters by religion (except for the radical Islam vs. non-radical Islam one that JP quotes above) so taking about religion of shooters is tough That said, some people hold that white shooters get an easier ride in the media than non-white shooters. I haven't got time to dig in this right now, but my gut feel is that this is more true than not. (I did go off half-cocked because I missed the context from Jacquie's post. So I'm cool with being called out on that. My bad.)
  7. I don't speak for Jacquie but I don't think that's what she said at all.
  8. Citation please.
  9. While I agree with you in sentiment, note that an enormous amount of government taxation and spending -- especially with education -- happens at the state and local level, so you need to account for those things if you're comparing education vs. military spending in the USA as a whole. Also, education spending varies hugely by locality here. Elite public school boards in rich areas are hyperfunded. Public school for everyone else .... not so much.
  10. yeah, I'm with Jimmy Pop -- my gay friends are terrified now and are looking over their shoulders, especially with Pride coming up in pretty much every city, especially with the cops getting that L.A. nutcase the same weekend. I am friends-of-friends with some of the victims and watching the social media mourning has been heartbreaking. Me, I'm not any more scared of life than I was on Saturday, but I'm a married middle-aged white dude. Nobody with guns has marked me as a target.
  11. In Clerks, you gotta love that opening shot of Dante falling out of the closet. No explanation, just a cold open of a guy tumbling out of a closet to answer a phone call from his ******* friend. And the rooftop hockey game is inspired. The rest of it is pretty whatever tho.
  12. Joe Pop kicked for us a few games that year, here's some video of him hitting one against Montreal.
  13. The BC white road jerseys look fantastic, that reddy orange is an awesome trim colour. It's the home ones that look like jack o'lanterns without candles.
  14. I'm not the youtube hero, just searched for it last night and was surprised to find it.
  15. Full game on youtube for your armchair coaching pleasure:
  16. okay, in retrospect "Mr. June" is less praise than I intended. It just seems like the guy is always in midseason form at the start of the season. Look at how burning hot he was in the first month last year for Saskatchewan. New team, new offense, new receivers, no big deal, he just slings the ball and puts up the numbers wherever he goes.
  17. So pumped at how decent Davis and Bennett looked. Sure they were playing against backups, but the rookie pivots we've rolled through here in the past didn't look like they could even execute the game plan, let alone execute it against opposition. Liked to see them standing in the pocket, delivering balls, scrambling when needed. They looked like CFL quarterbacks. Really curious to see how our import RBs stack up against actual CFL linebackers, Montreal was playing all backups the whole game at LB. Kevin Glenn is Mr. June, that guy always rolls out hot when the weather's nice. He's gonna do some damage with that stacked receiving corps that Montreal has. Hope a young QB emerges on the Alouettes, though -- gotta keep the fresh supply of young QBs coming into the league.
  18. Pretty amazing preseason game where it doesn't look like anyone played themselves straight off the team. With all those promising receivers in camp, is there any way that Darvin Adams might get beat out?
  19. I'm just lucky I didn't type his name as McGahee or McGarrity. Too many former Bomber names rattling around in my #oldmanbrain.
  20. He's gotta catch the ball, though. Wasn't impressed with the pick that McGuffie caused -- nicely thrown ball clanks off his hands at the five yard line and boom its intercepted and the drive is snuffed out. That's a terrible mistake to make in the red zone in your first pre-season game. (That was McGuffie, right? I don't have a replay handy)
  21. Oh yeah, if I'm at a hockey or a football game, I'm not there to socialize, I'm there for the game. Baseball and soccer have a different vibe for me tho.
  22. Watching soccer live is like watching baseball live, it's a social game, you go to hang out with people and have a blast and maybe something exciting happens occasionally. Baseball is better tho because it's played during the nice weather season here.
  23. He might have a rough time in school, but he'll have a bright future as a CFL player agent.
  24. **** it, I'm leaving work early to watch this.
