The Bombers don't even have 1 guy I'd consider a stud Canadian starter and that is a problem. Yeah there's lots of bodies that you hope can start, but the quality really isn't there. We've got three legit starters -- Kohlert, Greaves, maybe Bucknor. Kohlert's the best of the three, if I had to draft a Canadian off the Bombers for my expansion team he'd definitely be the one I'd take. I love the guy, but if he's the ceiling for Canadian talent on the Bombers there is still much work to be done. Every one of our other prospective starters is a huge question mark. Is Picard past his best-before date? Is Neufeld going to be durable enough? Is Goosen ready? Can the firm of Hurl, Newman, and Sherman hold down an LB spot? Do we have even a single legit DL starter?

This is total speculation but I wonder if Willy's reluctant to sign on long term with Bellefeuille running the offense? MB's coaching and our OL play nearly got him killed last year, maybe he's waiting to see if that's going to improve.

First row, upper deck, anywhere between the 35s. Looking down from above you can see the running game so much better. That said. sitting low, close to the players, you don't see as much of the game but you really see just how unbelievably fast it moves.

After what happened to the Roughriders last year without Durant, I was expecting Glenn to be a Roughrider again. But maybe CFL clubs will be patient and Glenn will have to wait for the first major QB injury or bedshitting before he's back on the field.

Re: redblacks receivers, it seems like instead of starting five WR3's like they were last year, they're now starting a bunch of WR2's. Definitely an upgrade, but unless someone takes a step forward there's no clearcut #1 in there.

Great game. Y'know, I really like the look of those Minnesota away sweaters. There's so many gawdawful uniforms in the NHL these days, it's nice to see something that looks classy with clean lines and good hockey colors.

Pretty much the best pop music since Thriller.

I suspect it would have been worse had she sung live. Gotta admit that lion puppet was pretty boss though.

This is total Seahawk ball. Being outplayed by a wide margin but it doesn't matter.

CHRIS MATTHEWS! #thankyouwinnipeg

Obviously I like the Seahawks and it's a trip living in a super bowl city but believe me I would trade any number of Super Bowl titles for a Bomber Grey Cup.

James-- Google's newspaper archive might have a paper with a lineup card: http://news.google.com/newspapers You can get a temporary searchable archive subscription to the Winnipeg Free Press for not a heck of a lot of money. That might have lineup information as well.

Worth the money. Is there a receiver in the league who helps out his quarterback more than S.J. Green? Those heroic catches by Denmark that we all remember -- it seems like SJG does that kind of thing on a weekly basis.

Just like two former Bombers making the two biggest plays to get the Seahawks in the Super Bowl was last weekend! grumble grumble #thankyouwinnipeg

...or maybe not. Happy to be going to another super bowl but i have to agree that the NFL OT rules suck ass. NFL MVP QB vs. best D in the land in OT is a legendary matchup, you can't take that away from fans because the Hawks won a coin toss.

ooof. time to change out the ol' avatar I guess. I am a total fair-weather seahawks fan, my true passion is reserved for the Winnipeg teams.
-
hats off to Pavs, but holy cow we were outplayed, I think the shot count actually flattered the Jets. That was a terrible run of faceoffs in the third period.
-
oh man that was a sweet glove save with Seguin in alone.

Not everyone worries about that

Yeah, by relative isolation I mean that if you're in a Western city and you want to go to another city in any kind of reasonable timeframe, you've almost certainly got to fly, whereas if you're in Montreal, huge chunks of the populated North America are car trippable. If you play in Winnipeg, you can drive to places like Thunder Bay, Fargo, Regina, and Saskatoon in a day. If you play in Montreal, you can easily drive to Boston, Toronto, Ottawa, New York City, or Quebec City in a day. I'm not saying that this is super important to any particular football player, but when my family's considered moving back to a Canadian city, the isolation of the West is something we think about.
-
Also, Montreal is an awesome city, a great combination of inexpensive and elegant. It doesn't have Vancouver / Toronto's cost of living, it's much nicer than Hamilton, and it doesn't have the relative isolation / hard-to-reachness of the west.

Off-season - Blue Bomber history thread

Seven imports, eh. Love to see a football remake of The Magnificent Seven; Winnipeg team officials pooling their money to hire mercenaries to destroy the filthy western flatlander bandits.
