  1. glorious, I've never seen the whole thing. impressed with the other Joey Elliott, the guy from Def Leppard. Roger Daltrey sounds pretty good too. hey, Tony Iommi! Stone Cold Crazy ... the very first thrash metal song .. and who comes out to sing it but motherfucking James Hetfield. a perfect moment in time. damn Seal takes that Freddy anguish from Who Wants To Live Forever and makes it smooove. gorgeous. I would've paid my eye teeth to have seen Queen hit the road with George Michael after this. He's one of the few at Freddy's level. Lost him too early too. And that orange blazer is so dope.
  2. hey canada, c'mere let me give you a big sloppy hug you magnificent feelgoodsad friday night gen-x comfort mutt. listen to how they pop the current singer slightly in the mix so they get a moment! 1:24 is such wholesomeness. TAKE THE SOLO WHISTLE GUY! to the guy playing in the plasma ball somewhere around 4:19, he's at 9o'clock in the mosaic
  3. Here's an interesting quote from a judge hearing a lockdown-related case in Wisconsin. You can guess who the meatpackers are and who the regular folks are. more: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/05/americas-racial-contract-showing/611389/ #alllivesmatter
  4. just dropped this on Youtube. couple friends helped out on bass and sax. It's astonishing what people with iphones can do without ever leaving the house. you want some super chill reggae trip-hop pumped up with some French absurdist despair, here ya go:
  5. Straight out of the Republican playbook. Inconvenient facts are legislated away. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-northcarolina/north-carolina-lawmakers-reject-sea-level-rise-predictions-idUSBRE86217I20120703
  6. Pence acts like someone who was severely bullied by the smart kids at his high school.
  7. Y2K was definitely not a conspiracy theory -- it was a massive and largely successful effort by IT folks to upgrade systems to deal with a very real bug. If we'd done nothing we would have been in some trouble. I was at Nortel in the late nineties and the phone switch folks took Y2K very very seriously. The power grid was legit a big worry, what with its continental scope and tricky-to-understand cascading failure modes. The 2003 eastern North American power outage was caused by a single failure at a single utility in Ohio .. and that knocked everything from Maryland to Thunder Bay down. Multiple utilities going down unexpectedly could have put us in serious uh-oh territory. Some of the reaction to CV19 reminds me of the reaction to Y2K -- since it wasn't as bad as it could have been, the threat was imaginary.
  8. You could get a great bunch of Onion headlines with the mad lib "Susan Collins is very concerned about ___________________"
  9. Re 6: my understanding is that oil prices are plummeting due to a Saudi price war campaign. I have read that the Saudis are pumping their cheap oil at bottom dollar and no one can compete. Wouldn't that really jack up the market for expensive Canadian tar sands oil? (I bet someone on this forum knows way more about this than I do.)
  10. We're a hobby thing, we're not serious about touring and recording and so forth, pretty much everyone in the band has kids. We recorded this EP a couple years ago after we got a little cash windfall but we haven't marketed it at all ... though if Noeller was interested in playing us we would def. take his call... https://iandtheboys.bandcamp.com/track/nimrod (forget the 'I and the Boys" name, that's kind of an old name we don't use anymore, we are Free Candy for the most part now) We play together every week, a mix of jamming and covers and originals, and we gig in small places and house parties around town a couple times a year. It's a great situation, pretty low stress for the most part but occasionally we put our noses to the grindstone and put a show together and invite all our friends. Nothing compares to playing live for people but holy cow it can be stressful... All of us (except the sax player) are trying to write songs, so our originals are all over the map, we have country songs and romantic pop songs and my stomping folk/blues songs, we don't really have a sound that's "ours" if you know what I mean. it makes it more fun for me but sometimes we give the audience whiplash when we go from INXS to Blue Oyster Cult to disco in the space of three songs (I also sing Godzilla and I Will Survive in our set, though I do those from behind the drums)
  11. thanks! I was so nervous, I had my eyes closed for almost the entire song...
  12. Even in their prime Genesis were wooden on stage. Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks are both statues up there, Phil singing sitting down won't impact the show too much. And like Matty says you gotta make hay while the sun shines; Genesis w/Phil Collins is a huge ticket and will make the non-Phil guys some bank for retirement. Can't begrudge someone pushing their careers one more year to set up their retirement and I'm sure Genesis fans will enjoy a last opportunity to see them. Too bad they couldn't get Peter Gabriel, that would be an epochal tour. So sad what happened to Phil, he's a fantastic drummer whose sounds defined an era but poor posture behind the kit screwed up his back and puts him in terrible pain when he plays, so he's just a vocalist now. Good that he can still tour and perform as a pure frontman. (though who knows if anyone will be touring anytime soon)
  13. Just reading through the Washington State executive order. It's not as harsh as I thought it would be -- only essential businesses can open, but restaurant delivery and takeout is considered essential ... and so are cannabis stores.
  14. thanks, Speedflex, all the best to your family too.
  15. I hear you, man. When I was newlywed I was working as a novelist, so I was at home alone all day every day with just my stupid book in my head for company and yeah, that got old pretty fast.
  16. protip: it looks less racist when you don't say "they" and "us" because who, really, is "us? when in doubt, follow the walrus rule: I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
  17. things are interesting here. for the past week my wife has something that might be CV19. her slow-onset fever is right but her cough is wrong. so we are treating her like a CV19 infectee, our house is in quarantine, and furthermore she is isolating herself from me. Since we have a single-bathroom house, that's complicated. lots of wiping of surfaces going on here. on top of that, I've got some kind of non CV19 sinus thing going on with turbo fatigue that's got me sleeping about 75% of the time. seem to have shook that over the weekend and planning on regular working from home tomorrow. My wife's isolation protocol ends tomorrow (1 week after first symptoms, or 3 days after symptoms end, whichever comes first). I'm going to cook something nice and we'll have a Better Call Saul date or we'll play the untitled goose game together. There are rumors flying around town (Seattle) that the state will be under formal cop-enforced lockdown soon. Other states have done this already. all the best from out here. go bombers (though I wonder if there will be a CFL season at all in 2021)
  18. It's a distraction, a troll to energize his people. People will get upset that Trump is saying things the wrong way and that's something that will give his base massive grievance boners, as we've seen here.
  19. Here, have a go in the Total Perspective Vortex. This is quite a video. The Age of Starlight ends with twenty minutes still to go.
  20. haven't played it yet -- a friend gifted me Disco Elysium last week while Fallen Order was downloading and I've been digging that game. DE is super cool, it's like a David Lynch take on a detective RPG. Might not be to everyone's taste though, there's a ton of text and weirdness to process. Fallen Order is next though!
  21. Stephen Miller all mad because no one makes a ventilator that will only work for native born Americans....
  22. a facebook share from an elderly friend let me to wander thru the Krazy Konspiracy Kanuck facebook group (not using their real name because **** them) and it's all alternating freakouts about gangs of roving transgendered lesbian cov19+ immigrants stealing your **** while jihadists disguised as UN blue helmets parachute into Lethbridge and Prince George. And also Trudeau is secretly altering paper currency to serve as a coronavirus propagator. Lotta crazy out there.
  23. Omar and Brother Mouzone bringing biowarfare to the game
  24. yeah, there is a very lively discussion about the U.S. federal government's corona response and responsibilities in the U.S. Politics thread if folks want to check that out.
