"Concerned" for a GOP politician is much like "thoughts and prayers" -- a meaningless catchphrase of performative, placating empathy. See also "troubling."

I dunno how easy it will be for the GOP to quit Trump. He's got that narcissist superpower of always managing to be the subject of conversation and advancing no matter the tone of that conversation, so Fox and the GOP can't just ghost him. If Fox and the GOP go hard at him, his tweets will ensure that war burns bright and sucks all the oxygen out of whatever else Fox is trying to hork up at them moment. He's not just going to go away quietly and paint pictures of wounded soldiers like GWB did.

My guess is that the post-Presidency Trump will settle into the role of a GOP influencer / kingmaker, taking money, and making tweets and rally appearances. Fox has been grooming the GOP base for him for a generation; those GOP voters are in the tank for him for good. Career-minded Republicans are right to be wary of publicly defying him. Ben Sasse, who was all humphy and nevertrumpy at one point, bent the knee to get a recent endorsement tweet. Lyin' Ted Cruz started licking the trump boot when Beto gave him a scare in Texas in 2018. Lindsay Graham, once John McCain's best friend, now just another loudmouth with Trump's hand up his ass.

Like I've said before, the one upside of the Trump administration is watching the worst people in the world be abused by the worst boss in the world.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...

I remember back in 2010 the Fabulous Blue Bomber Show was interviewing Jyles and they asked him a question about audibles, and he said something like "we don't ever call audibles, there's reads for me on every play no matter what the defence." Maybe I heard that wrong, but would that even be a thing, an offence that has no audible plays designated? -
whoah. Between Pelosi saying the I-word and Britain's highest court ordering Parliament be reopened, it's been quite an international news day I think it'll be like the Barr report; its superficial and incomplete truth will be presented as the complete and definitive story.

What do you think of the state of CFL football?
johnzo replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
On PI, has the standard changed away from zero tolerance for contact before the ball arrives? On at least one of the recent Rose interceptions, there was clear contact between Rose and the receiver before the ball arrived and I was surprised it wasn't challenged. It was incidental contact and would never have been called before PI got stricter, though. It's weird how the emphasis on QB safety hasn't resulted in fewer QB-games lost due to injury. But I gotta say I'm impressed at how CFL teams are coaching up and rolling out their new starters:. Arbuckle, the Leveler, Adams Jr, Evans, even Fajardo and MBT. Given the number of QB injuries across the league I was expecting the Grey Cup to be a Bridge vs. LeFevour type game, but the new guys have done all right. My concerns about the state of CFL football are all existential. How long can the league keep going in its present form, when so few want to go to games in Toronto or BC? Even when those teams are competitive, attendance has been terrible in Toronto and soft in BC, worse than even the bottom times in the 90s. And the Als sale is dragging on and on and on. I kinda wonder (based on zero evidence) if TSN is advancing the CFL money on the recent TV deal extension to help keep the Als afloat. -
The 2012 Tiger Cats are my favorite flipside example -- top scoring team in the league, finished last in the East because Casey Creehan's D was so so so so sooooo bad.

there's a tweet in another thread that says that Newf still has a week to go on his six-game, so the question is moot.

hell, the Bombers' last win in 1990 was without a 1000-yard receiver. Rick House was our leader with 883 yards, if statscrew.com is to be trusted. clicking around on statscrew, I see that James Murphy somehow got 1400 yards in 1988 ... man, that's some Stegall-level work considering the QBs we rolled out in 88.
-
oh man I would love to go to this. have fun you guys, and I hope the fans aren't just the human wreckage who call into radio shows. "yeah Mike, less of a question, more of a comment ... you know what I think the Bombers should do? I think you should try to score a touchdown on every drive."
-
would you expect that Neufeld would be rostered against the Als when he's just had his first week of practice in like ten months? Can a vet shake off the rust that fast? (asking because I honestly don't know ... just seems like a lot to ask a guy who's been on the shelf for nearly a year)

Me: you know I don't think much of Trump but at least he got rid of that crazy kill-em-all motherfucker John Bolton. Trump: hold my beer

for ****'s sake, Hamilton.

I think BC is going to absolutely paste the redblacks. BC is awful but talented, against a dead end no hope team like Ottawa they could bust out.

speaking of men playing boys... had to watch this clip over and over while making the animated gif and I enjoyed it more each time

In theory, everything is impeachable -- it's a political process, not a criminal one. In practice, nothing is impeachable unless Moscow Mitch says it is, and MM thinks things are just fine at the moment.

Mixed feelings about this. Bolton never saw a brown person he didn't want to bomb, so keeping him the hell away from the government is a sound move.

Yeah, Gainey did not account for Augustine on the TD play. Didn't see JA until he was well past him. damned if Augustine doesn't have a gift for making Ed Gainey look bad, torching him on explosion plays two weeks in a row. gotta keep him on hand for those rivalry games.

I am teaching myself songwriting and electronic music production so here are a couple of tracks. Yacht Wreck, going for a stompy old rock vibe here. 43 Sieges, something more brooding, ominous, a soundtrack you'd hear on a VHS tape from the 80s.
