The Ohio congressional victory for the GOP was like us beating the Alouettes 7-6 on a last minute safety touch. Bombers still get the two points, but morningbigblue would be rightfully freaking out about our underperformance. Re, the bigger picture. it's a pat and often lazy left-wing thing to say that the Republicans are driven by racism, but man, after watching this Laura Ingraham piece I have to wonder about that. Her problem is that there are too many brown people in the USA, and that the USA she loves is gone because of that. (the bit about not voting for that massive demographic change is kinda funny, as Reagan and Bush I did far more to formally legitimize immigrants than Clinton or Obama, and Bush II almost got a giant amnesty bill to sign, before it was derailed by congressional opposition)

Als About To Drop Willy & Matthews? Manziel Now An Al
johnzo replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Man, who could the Als hire to rebuild after they fire Reed? Who would want the job given the way they've burned their seed corn? Tom Higgins and Jim Barker are the only names to come to mind, and you gotta wonder what kind of baggage Higgins has in Montreal. -
My band Pony Camp just cut this, it's our first ever studio recording. I'm on drums and singing backup during the spirited parts.

ALS - What happens if Vernon Adams lights it up?
johnzo replied to O2L's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
How much hassle could it have been? Hamilton held all the cards. Dude made lots of noise and negotiated in public, but at the end of the day, if he wanted to get paid to play outdoor football in North America, Hamilton was his only option. If I were a Ticats fan I'd be over the moon about this deal. They paid backup coin and zero football assets (unless you count Adams, who got cut to make room) to sign a raw guy with some upside but zero future in the league, and then they turned him into 2 high first round picks, a starting Canadian, and Chris Williams who could still have game? That's some Rumplestiltskin GMing right there. It's a fun thing to think about but I don't think 1996 Doug Flutie could light it up with the Als at this point. -
Nichols v strevler and the hole in our offense.
johnzo replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
yeah, Harris is having a great year and is definitely our MOP. but I don't think he'd be beasting like he is if it was someone like Alex Brink handing him the ball. Having a viable passing threat makes space for Harris to do his thing. -
I'd settle for Rod Black being able to distinguish between Trevor Harris and Travis Lulay. Dude called Harris "Lulay" like six times last weekend. Need to sub Kate Beirness in for Rod Smith in the studio full-time and the get Rod S. and Dunigan out as a regular full-time broadcast team. That'd go a long way towards fixing up the TSN broadcasts.

This is a pure 90s-era Ottawa Rough Riders move, tho at least the Rough Riders didn't have to trade their entire future to get Andre Ware. -
When does the bowman experiment end? (Bowman traded to Montreal)
johnzo replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Noticed last night that when Couture is in for tight end sets, Bowman is the guy subbing out. So Bowman is not only getting fewer targets, he's getting fewer snaps. (love that TSN over-the-huddle camera, makes it so much easier to track lineup changes on O) -
When does the bowman experiment end? (Bowman traded to Montreal)
johnzo replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I wonder how often Bowman is one of the first reads in the Lapo offence? Like, is Lapo calling plays that feature him at all? Seems like Lapo's offense is all about featuring Harris and Adams and Streveler and (in the BC game) Demski and leaving everyone else the scraps. Also (and I haven't run the numbers on this) it seems like we are featuring the run way more than we did last year even with Nichols in there ... that's going to take touches away from our receivers. Dressler's numbers are down too. Maybe Bowman has just aged out and can't get open, I dunno, but maybe it's something else. I remember how Lapo couldn't figure out how to use him last time they were both in Winnipeg... -
Week 5 Games: O'Shea and Trestman so sure of their offences. Just take the damn points!

My company did another successful uncrewed New Shepard test. (New Shepard is our suborbital space tourism / science vehicle. Features a reusable vertical landing propulsion module and giant windows so passengers get an amazing view)

Speaking of Congress, here's a tidbit from part 43a of the actual indictment:

yup, this has been the least entertaining CFL season I can remember. All the games are either two shitty teams volleying punts or complete asswhuppings. So many teams have QB issues -- Harris and Jennings have both regressed badly, Saskatchewan and Montreal don't have legit starters, Franklin is promising but no one in Toronto cares, Masoli has a magical Kevin Glenn-like power to undo wins... This is the CFL that CFL haters see.

Here's a real nice Twitter thread from the Cats' play-by-play guy about the concepts that Lapo is running with Streveller. He shows his work with tons of video examples. Great work, wish there was more of this kind of thing in the CFL media. You'll see lots of misdirection, lots of similar looks with different guys carrying the ball. Love the play where they have Andrew Harris be the lead blocker for Streveller out of a shovel pass look. Really showcases the dude as a change-of-pace QB. (click thru to Twitter or use the link above to read the whole thread. man twitter threading sucks)

Babylon Berlin opening credits. The show is pretty good, but the credits are astonishing. They're a little NSFW if you squint at them.

the funny thing I'm doing the day trip stag because my wife, who normally goes to Vancouver with me, is studying for exams. So if I have a date I'm in big trouble that I don't even know about. Maybe she is the curse? She's been to all but one of the Bomber losses with me. This weekend, we will know...

I'm going to the game. I have not seen a bomber win live since Oct. 26, 1996. So either they're due, or my cursed presence is too powerful for any Bomber team to overcome.

Here's the Rainey kick. It's at 1:24:11 if the link doesn't go right there. Looks like Miles put a little twist on his leg before the kick. -
Today on Adventures in Late Capitalism: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2018/07/att-wants-to-overhaul-hbo-says-it-isnt-profitable-enough/ HBO has made 6 billion dollars in profit over the last three years.

Odds and Sods - BC Lions at Winnipeg Blue Bombers
johnzo replied to do or die's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Yeah, it might just have not been seen, but that seems weird ... the kicker was the ball carrier, it didn't happen on the outskirts of the play, there would be at least one official with eyes on that part of the field, looking to spot the ball. But yeah, **** happens, hopefully there is after the fact discipline
