Does Darvin Adams have a nickname? Because the way the guy in the grey hat was rubbing his belly, he could be Buddha.

2017-08-17 Edmonton at Winnipeg (pregame) The question tonight: After beating three crap teams, are Bombers legit?

I'm pretty sure that most drummers who need to sync up to a recording while playing live will have a click track in their monitor.

While we're talking about metal drummers -- here is Sabbath playing War Pigs in 1970 in Paris. The whole band is fantastic, Ozzy hasn't melted his brain yet and Tony Iommi's heavy guitar sound shakes the foundations of the earth -- but the star here is Bill Ward. He is a true beast. When he passes, there had better be a new constellation in the sky.

A few years ago I saw a youtube of Bran playing the Last Baron live, with the sound 80% drums and 20% other. Wish I could find it again. It was unbelievable how underneath this gigantic metal song there was this crazy ass swinging beat. Loved it. He can sing a bit too. Singing drummers are excellent. Speaking of crazy ass swinging beats, gotta link to Nicko McBrain soloing my favorite Iron Maiden song. Guy plays those triplets on a single pedal. Just sick.

A Canadian angle: Rebel Media, who had an alt-right-sympathetic correspondent in Charlottesville, is doing damage control as their freelancers quit. http://nationalpost.com/news/canada/ezra-levant-distances-the-rebel-from-the-alt-right-as-contributors-resign/wcm/e1b829fe-6a31-4eac-851e-c7efffb71b62

Here's a look at some of the white supremacists behind the "Unite the Right" rally. If this goes mainstream, we are totally ******. Hope you can see this video in Canada.

My wife says a cynical thing: there's a dead white girl at the heart of this tragedy. Dead white girls galvanize the USA like nothing else.

When I saw the news today I honestly didn't know it would be a big deal. Oh, the President is pussyfooting with actual blood-and-soil Nazis. Just another day in the USA. The USA has been so upside down that I had no idea where the red line for Republicans was. I wonder if the critical mass for a 25th Amendment removal is forming tonight. I don't think any move against Trump will come from Congress; the House GOP doesn't have the courage to defy the Trump voters. Things are so evenly balanced right now that a defection of just a few percent of the GOP voters would be disastrous for them. (Edit: A 25th Amendment removal of the President must be ratified by both houses, so Congress is involved in any case)

Odds and Sods - Blue Bombers at Hamilton Tiger-Cats
johnzo replied to do or die's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
A lot of those dinky 2nd and long plays look like checkdown passes to me. Nicholls' eyes are typically downfield until the steamboats run out, then he takes the high-percentage play and dumps it off to Harris or Thorpe, instead of trying to force it downfield. Those guys can make plays in traffic, so it's not a bad bet. Sure, it's frustrating when we wind up 3rd-and-3 on a dinky pass, especially when it happens 2-3x in a game. But it's not like Lapo has an xbox controller wired into his QBs brain and he's mashing the X button as soon as the ball is snapped. Nicholls is the guy making the decisions, and given that his pick totals are so low, it seems like he's making pretty good ones. It seems like the Bombers philosophy is entirely about winning giveaway/takeaway: DBs play loose looking for picks but also giving up lots of yards, offense plays conservatively to minimize turnovers and leans heavily on our most reliable ball carrier. That means we're not as aggressive as we could be, and we wind up with lots of 4+ FG games from Medlock. Can be frustrating to watch but you can't argue about our Nicholls/Medlock-era record. -
Yeah, there a snare back there, it's just really well hidden. Love watching drum covers on YouTube. Thanks for the links, TF.

It's informative to me, but the highest level of football I ever played was men's rec league flag. Didn't know what Cover 3 was until Hank explained it. Agree that it's terribly produced, though. Hank doesn't have a great voice for this kinda thing, or they've got the gain turned way down on his mic, or whatever. And it feels really hurried, they jump between so many different plays while explaining one concept ... would be better to just pick one play that demonstrates the topic and then break it down with some detail. Also, wtf BC?

Yeah, seeing them live from behind the bench, you can really get an appreciation for how they roll the DL. They're subbing after every play.

2017-08-12 Winnipeg at Hamilton Davis garbage time opportunity wasted. Ryan Dinwiddie. Hamilton Ticats: a really really really awful football team.

Tonight my neighbours are listening to these beauties: I've been playing electronic drums in my living room, but no more. Got a nice little club kit that's perfect living room volume when I play it with rod sticks. Would have liked royal blue better but alas, it's not a popular color for drums...

2017-08-11 Toronto at Montreal Their Oxford oars smashed, their Cambridge sails limp and still. Argonauts becalmed. Ask Sam Coleridge-- Argos not first mariners defeated by birds. Matthews will not rest until Anthony Coombs is fully dismembered.

Seems like TSN has been pumping Odell Willis's tires a lot lately, going on in-game about what a nut/goofball he is... -

Oh yeah, Subban dresses to kill. He's the exception tho. Most NHL players are dialtones in terms of personality and style. -
goddammit why doesn't this site have a horns reaction emoji .. gotta copy and paste one in like a chump... Anyway, getting back on topic: forget Hamilton, forget Edmonton, forget all this regular season noise ... let's talk about the games that really matter. What DIs do you guys think we should roster in the Western Final?

Disagree, it's excellent to see CFL players dressing with some personality and flair instead of just being robots in IBM suits like NHL players. (it's also hilarious when the team's official twitter busts his balls about it) Speaking of partaking, man, the Tim Burke era would have been way easier to deal with if we'd legalized in WA before 2013... -
Is it known which Western team tried to grab Spooner off PR??
johnzo replied to Booch's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
When I was a kid I had to mow acres of grass for my old man. I had a riding mower for the last couple of years I did it, but I still hated it. Out getting baked by the sun, uselessly cutting a plant that was just going to grow back anyway...it was stupid. Funny thing ... fifteen years later, a buddy needed help running a riding mower, getting his backyard in shape for his wedding, I did it, and it was strangely relaxing and satisfying. Man, getting old is weird. -

Yeah, real nice to see a young player buying into the Walters / O'Shea program, even if it costs him some $$ in the short term. Great to see. (I'd never criticize a practice player for bouncing on us but I'll sure cheer when one says he'll stay) -

Can't begrudge practice roster players a shot at a starting position. We only pay em, what, $500 a week? That's not enough to get a monopoly on their services.
