Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
JuranBoldenRules replied to johnzo's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The one thing I really can’t believe on O is how far they’ve got from recruiting/signing the types of players that succeed with Zach. I honestly DGAF about what any OC wants for personnel past the QB. You have to build around the QB in any league. Ideally for Zach you have a lanky, physical boundary WR, a Fantuz/Schoen type slot just big target pure route runner with excellent skills on scramble rules, a slot like a Tasker or Sterns quick inside leverage target zone killer, your field WR is just a big slab of receiver who can win stick and dagger be reliable, and your 5th guy is a playmaker like a Demski. We have like 2.5 of those things depending on if Clercius learns how to win an inside break and if Schoen is healthy. All of it really relies on that boundary WR though because if teams have to worry about that guy you open up so much space in the middle of the field. -
Grey Cup GDT - Riders vs Als

What does it say about the CFL that they have to thaw out James Duthie to hand out the Grey Cup and can't let the people who cover the league the entire season do it? -
Permission to talk: Is O'Shea leaving?
JuranBoldenRules replied to sportmentary2012's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Exactly. Easy to make excuses. It's Buck Pierce or Jason Hogan's fault. Reality is he's taking a haircut in this free agency like a lot of receivers did the past couple years. His impact on winning doesn't match his current salary. -

Brady is not going to get the offers this round that he got last round. He’s unfortunately proven in the past 3 years that he’s not a big game player. The numbers are there, but it’s guys like Ouellette, Stevie Scott, Kadeem Carey who are stepping up big in big games and big moments. Can make excuses but where’s the signature playoff game in his career? Someone like Harris took over the playoffs from the time he was a rookie until his body gave out in his late 30s. The production is impressive but you’re not paying $300,000 for big games in August. -
The Riders are dressing 1 American receiver in the Grey Cup game. You guys would be apoplectic if O'Shea did that. Let's be honest. Their receiving corps is Jakobi Meyers, Ajou Ajou, Kian Schaffer-Baker, Tommy Nield, Sam Emilus and Mitch Picton. They better hope Montreal can't get out of the gates because they aren't scoring more than 20 points on O.

When has Toronto ever been down for more than a year or two? -

Austin was a complete disaster in Hamilton and the only other time he's been in charge was a one season stint. He's also 65 years old. -

Milanovich hasn't won a playoff game in his past six seasons as a CFL head coach. He's got a terrible relationship with a lot of his players. Very up and down, kind of personality that is not direct, cold and passive aggressive. Not really on my list if you want to win. I really think he's suited to running a QB room and really looks at the rest of the role leading a team with disgust. But he's got the same issues in that role too with the human side of the job. -

Miller made two hall of fame hires and that's really all he's had to do on the football operations side so far. He could bat .500 and we could still end up in a mess. It's hard to build a staff. It was hard for O'Shea who is a hall of fame player and now a hall of fame coach. Obviously WFC is much less of a **** show than it was, but different people will have different draw in terms of their ability to build out both personnel and coaching side. How does Miller know if he made the right hire/hire(s) or not? He was patient with Walters and O'Shea. Will he be patient enough with the next round with an organization that is used to winning? Will he be too patient in a bad situation relying on his past experience with two hall of famers? There's the appeal of novelty that something new will be better. The odds of that are extremely slim. Same as with the QB's. Yeah, **** it, throw some random QB out there and see what happens. -

You can't really separate O'Shea and Walters if you're trying to play the blame game. -

Yeah should give a chance to someone new like Jeff Reinebold or Tim Burke. -
That particular call is one of the best examples of why "the call on the field" should count for zilch when it comes to replay. There's not a single ref on the field in position to make a call on that play in that spot on the field through the bodies. I have a really hard time definitively going either way on it. In the next frame from that freezed shot his lower arm is under the ball. Seems like it's basically in his control. But it is moving.

CFL East Division Final: Montreal @ Hamilton

BLM was awful in the 2nd half of this season. A lot of yards between the 30's and a major struggle to consistently score points. -
Are you talking about the 2nd last time BC had the ball? They still needed 3 first downs to ice the game. Sask had a timeout. They called a pass on 2nd and 6 when they needed that first down and 2 more to not give the ball back around 1 min. 2:35 when they ended the 1st down play. Way too early to just try to sit on the lead. There were literally 3 possessions after this. Needed first down. The final time they had the ball they ran twice. Sask used timeout after 1st down play.

I honestly can't believe anyone is interested in Kent Austin in a head coach or GM role or that he'd be interested in that job again after his Hamilton stint. Feels like Naylor just listed names he knows when I saw that. Didn't feel overly credible. The only one I actually believe is O'Shea. -
