He will appear but still be ineligible to work in Canada.
-
I think BC has that almost by default. They can't really use it because they have so few guys who qualify. Hamilton and the Bombers giving them a run for sure, but we did use Grant for a half dozen snaps.
-
Well, two pretty concrete examples. You can look at the depth charts, not too hard every team has them on their website. Thanks for convincing me to put you back on the ignore list.

I'm not really sure how you can't understand this, and not really sure what you're looking for aside from someone saying the new rule is useless maybe? Sask in recent games has also used Moncreif as their designated nationalized American. They've been able to get him and Reavis on the field at the same time subbing off Dalke/Lokombo. The Bombers are lucky to not have a glaring weakness among the starting Canadians...but the increased flexibility seems like it would benefit any team in case you start losing starters to injury.
-
There were some legit QB's available this year, namely Dane Evans. But Edmonton went all in on Cornelius. Jones has been terrible on QB's and it's unlikely anyone would entertain playing there who is experienced with him as coach/GM. The community owned teams seem to be the perfect opportunity for inept personnel guys to run the team into the ground. There's no one telling Jones what to do and worse with Cui being not a football person. Imagine the Bombers under Wade Miller having Edmonton's QB situation. Not a chance. First thing they did was get Drew Willy. Then Matt Nichols. Then cut bait on Willy when the time was right. Then grab Collaros when needed. Jones would have signed Streveler to a 3 year guaranteed extension. As much as we love the guy he's not a franchise QB.

Jeez man...the difference is you can sub the American running back in for a Canadian. Last year they subbed the American back in for an American receiver. So say it's the Bombers, the difference on the DL is instead of Haba taking Jeffcoat or Walker off the field you have all 3 of those guys out there and can sub off Thomas.
-
Sask and Calgary getting both American backs on the field without having to sub out an American receiver.
-
The cap was put in place because Jones in Sask had coaching staffs of like 18-20 people while most other teams had like 8.
-
The difference is you sub the American running back in for the Canadian receiver you designated and not an American. That's how teams are using it on both sides of the ball. It's a DI that can sub for designated Canadians. Because it has to be a vet the guys are usually starters but there's no restriction on them subbing in for other Americans so functionally you wouldn't notice Jeffcoat sitting around waiting for his 22 snaps, he'd sub in for Haba every play of the game if they wanted. Even as a team that doesn't function in the sense of Americans are inherently better than Canadians...the Bombers...most teams are glaringly opposite...it makes sense to use this designation on one guy on both sides of the ball if possible (Bailey would be the only real option for us on O right now) to give way more roster flexibility if you end up needing it due to in-game injuries. Say on O right now. If Agudosi was listed as the starter, Bailey the backup and designated nationalized American, you sub Bailey in for Agudosi the second snap of the game and he plays as normal. Now you have designated Wolitarsky and O'Leary-Orange as the Canadians Bailey can sub for. Say Wolitarsky gets dinged and needs to sit two series, Agudosi can take his place on the field. Say Demski goes down and BOLO steps in, again you can sub the American in.

Jones just hits me as someone who doesn't really want to put the work in anymore.
-
Exactly how I outlined in the post. Say they designated Jeffcoat as the American (has to be a vet) and Lawson/Thomas as the Canadians. They could play 22 snaps a game with 4 American DL on the field, or they could sub Jeffcoat in for Thomas/Lawson and Cole in for Haba to have 3 import LB's on the field for some of those snaps behind Jeffcoat, Walker, Jefferson in a 30 front. Even if they didn't want to "use it" having it set up to use in case of injury would be worthwhile IMO. Because Ottawa has no use for Desjarlais in 2024.
-
And no nationalized American use at all. Such an opportunity missed on the DL. All they’d have to do is play Haba on the first snap of the game and designate Jeffcoat. Then say Thomas or Lawson go down in game you don’t have to play the other guy every single snap the rest of the way.

For all the problems that Edmonton offense has that defense is trash too. Special teams and D tackling atrocious. Guys letting guys go at the sideline, attacking outside shoulder and letting guys back into the field who then run for 20 more yards. There’s no strong part of that team other than maybe the running backs and Dunbar. I disagree with that. The guy throws every ball to the wrong shoulder. He’s going to get everyone injured. Immediate difference with Doege out there who is a guy fresh out of college.

So he takes 5 deep shots a game and hits 2 of them. -
I guess if O'Shea and Boudreau are comfortable with McCrae catching punts. He couldn't do it 2022 preseason but likely has been working on it.
-
Not really sure Agudosi makes sense. Grant barely plays on O. If a guy from secondary is returning kicks they'll add another guy to secondary.

Trevor Harris is PFF's top graded offensive player of the week. QB of a team that won a game 12-11 because of a special teams gaffe. Apparently scoring points is not a strong part of the criteria for offense. -

Lapo from the northeast zone read tree like Chip Kelly. -
Kelly already in that kick side contain spot. Doubt we see him come out unless he gets injured. Even Exume back didn't displace him from that spot last week.

CFL - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

Everyone is basically running the same stuff. Teams have a handful of iso routes, and a bunch of 2 and 3 man route concepts for pass. Everyone runs a version of zone read now with a handful of downhill running plays, iso (back going to a certain gap) or zone (directional blocking read by back). For the run scheme, it's all rooted in Mike Shanahan's concepts from Denver and San Fran (as OC and head coach) with the zone read evolving as a mix with the spread offense which really started in the Northeast. Lapo is from that tree, one of the guys who brought it (more read plays, QB run, zone read as base) north along with Hufnagel when he came back. For the pass scheme it's all based off the Spread and the Air Raid. There's less and less West Coast (Trestman style) offense around by the year. West Coast is more prescribed, Air Raid stuff is more adjustable to the coverage. If you pull out a numbered route tree and show it to someone who's grown up playing football in this era it's like showing them a magazine or a rotary phone. It's all adjustable routes and route combos now. Tendencies are what is different. If it's 2nd and 6, this guy likes to call this. This QB wants to run this. There's not really any secrets. It's calling the right play to isolate the right guy and winning the play. -
But coming off Achilles. Hard to know what level he’ll be at. First year back guys usually struggle, second year back better if their body lasts.
-
They’ve been using a DI spot for Cole so likely would be both for a bit anyway.

I mean if their coaches can’t watch film and pick up the basic schemes of any teams no information is going to help them -
Grant’s injury not at the worst time, allows them to flip that DI spot to the secondary and have someone like 15 return punts, McCrae can probably handle kickoffs and missed FGs. Put Parker or Rose on if they are ready.

Suitor sounds like a guy who won a fan contest at his first CFL game to join the broadcast crew. Good lord. Is he high?
