  1. Let's be honest. LL Cool J and OLP aren't drawing anyone in 2023.
  2. Yeah I guess my point is none of our import backs are jumping off the page.
  3. Doesn't really work like that when Collaros isn't a runner. Sure he's a scrambler. A QB in that situation takes a beating. You use jet sweeps to keep the DL back on their heels a bit, but you need a running back.
  4. Oliviera's readiness is one of the bigger worries for me. I mean ultimately you want the guy good to guy when the games matter most, but we sure haven't seen anyone else in the RB role look even remotely capable the past couple seasons (like from 21 training camp to now). No run game = a much higher degree of difficulty for Collaros.
  5. Pretty convenient from a roster point of view. Winston Rose do anything in 2019 that needs punishing for a few weeks? Maybe the Aussie punter did something odd down under?
  6. His punting cost them the GC game as much as his placekicking. I truly believe they have lost trust there and prepared all offseason to make the roster change if they found the guys they wanted to replace him. They found the guys. The Canadian piece is a red herring with the Globals and the fact they are resigned to having an American placekicker anyway. Also Liegghio is overstated as a prospect. There’s been loads of guys over 20 years with a much higher profile and draft position as kickers, punters and guys who do it all. He had an accuracy record in the OUA but also with very limited range. He’s improved on that but is wildly inconsistent.
  7. Did you watch the Edmonton game? They’ll be charting the kicks daily but both punters kicked the hell out of the ball and in a way that the balls were perfect for coverage. They both were remarkably consistent especially since the older guy hadn’t kicked in a game in 8 years. Liegghio will have a tough time matching what they showed last week. They’ve clearly made a decision to challenge him, and in the back of Walters mind I think he knows Liegghio is likely gone east this off-season anyways. I don’t think Liegghio is a strong enough placekicker to compete in that derby but maybe there’s a path there for him. I wouldn’t be surprised if they keep both Global punters around for the start of the season assuming one of them doesn’t get scooped. Damn near every team has a Global punter or two just hoofing the skin off the ball. Real bad development for the Canadians.
  8. I'm extremely interested in the kicking situation. I feel the incumbents don't have any particular advantage, including Castillo as an incumbent. In fact my gut feeling is that Liegghio won't be on this team...and I think some people are going to be surprised that teams aren't beating down his door to sign him up either. The global punters that came north this year are ridiculously good.
  9. Not necessarily. DI's can sub unlimited for other imports.
  10. I'd like to see Maruo used as a rusher while Hansen works his way back. He's got a lot of will but isn't a strong player in the open field/coverage. Set him up with a role that relies mostly on effort and he'll be ok.
  11. Yeah the only issue will be fitting all the Americans on the roster. It's not like adding two Americans to the roster, just that you can use them more to sub for Canadians.
  12. The only problem is they have to fit onto the roster. So you basically have to slot them as DI's to take advantage of that spot in my understanding. Grant is a DI, Castillo or Staton, one DL, one DB. Now you could get smart about it and use Rose or Alexander as the DI DB instead of Parker or Holm to take advantage. Could slot Jefferson or Jeffcoat as a DI and "start" the other American DL. Darby might qualify too going into his 6th CFL season. Another aspect that hasn't been defined well is what are the service requirements to qualify a player to be nationalized. If a guy kicks around CFL practice rosters and hardly plays does that time count? Say you dress 6 DBs. Could you not designate Alexander as a DI and then sub him in as much as you want for Holm or Parker and give him the nationalized status to allow for more flexibility if needed due to injury?
  13. Yeah Pigrome ran the short-yardage more off-guard/tackle though other than the goal-line plunge. The first one was 3rd and more than 2 and he veered right and got almost 6.
  14. Really liked Parker's game tonight. Stuck his nose in to stop the run a bunch when the linebackers were very passive and not flowing to the ball at all in the first half. Great in coverage too and sealing up to prevent YAC. Jake Kelly with the hit of the game and great work as wide contain on punt cover all night. Can see where he slots in Day 1. Jackson played at least 3 positions and every special team. You think you dress that guy, he can take reps on DL for sure, he can come in as your tight end to do some blocking, could be your 7th OL if you ever needed the guy to fill in, long snaps although with the amount of stuff you have him doing maybe he's not the primary guy there either. But is he good enough at any of these roles to bring enough value?
  15. Somebody has to grab that WIL backer spot by the balls next week. Really unimpressed with Clements and Cole overall. We can't just rush the WIL every down.
  16. Was Salima the only import back that played?
  17. Hard as hell to judge all those receivers given that we basically ran our starters for most of a half (with Brown too) and then didn't have the ball for the next half. Maybe 1-2 of them are ongoing prospects but there's no roster space for receivers anyway. As it is if everyone is healthy we probably can roster one of Agudosi, Grant, McCrae. Not a lot of opportunity to get on the team for rookie receivers. I like Murphy too which probably squeezes out another import off the practice roster. He was probably the best receiver after the starters went out.
  18. Jones might just welcome Staton to Edmonton if we cut him.
  19. To me Schmitz is clearly the better of the global punters. That should be grounding in Canadian football.
  20. Feels almost unfair to call the RPO stuff for this QB. He is very unathletic.
  21. Dobson needs a lot of work on snapping if he's going to be the backup.
  22. Can't finish off the blitzes. Pitch and catch.
  23. I truly don't understand why Edmonton would waste so many reps on Ford and Locksley. If you have Ford, do you need Locksley? Maybe someone who can pass?
  24. Except Brink was way more athletic.
  25. Jones doesn't appear to have anything that jumps off the page. Slow movement, nothing on the ball.
