2022 CFL Season - Back 2 Back Champs News
JuranBoldenRules replied to JCon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
There are other facilities, there are other weekends. Planning an event like this in August when the Bombers were firmly in first place and extremely likely to host a playoff game on this date was a major screwup by whoever made that decision. Completely foreseeable problem the organizer caused themselves. -

The East All-Star OL is worse than the Bombers OL, probably Calgary's too. Ruby and Rice aren't top 10 players in their position. -

Kind of shitty that the Grey Cup is being treated as incentive for potential owners and/or bailouts. Maybe time to reward the cities more that support the league and give some incentive to others to get on board, actually market their teams. I'd rather have a 9 year rotating schedule than the BS we have now. -

Riders 5th in the West next year. Don’t care who they sign. -

It fits Hufnagel’s dry humor type personality perfectly though. The reason it was effective is because it’s so unexpected. -

What a waste of reps to have a guy like Dom Davis, or even Pipkin for BC, in these games. This is why no QB's are developing. -

I don't think he's necessarily their best chance to win in current condition. Calgary will run a bunch of zone blitz at him I'd bet if he does play. He won't have the mobility to get to where he needs to get to so he can throw downfield and he seemed to have a real hard time with the throws that needed more from his lower half last night. -
I get that piece but they can be honest too. TSN headline is literally “mission accomplished” for Rourke’s return. Guy couldn’t get any velocity on a ball over 10 yards and got chased down by a 290 lb DT on a scramble. I get how bad they want it to happen but they also have to be realistic and cover the actual game on the field.
-
Seeing how slow Rourke’s running and lateral movement is at this point it’s insane to me they think he can be a positive factor in a playoff game. And I still don’t know why he’s risking reinjury. He has everything to lose and playing at 70% he’s not going to be better than the average QB they have to replace him.

The team doesn’t give a **** they just need the guy cleared. I don’t get Rourke’s representation and why they’d risk the NFL money. There are a bunch of teams that don’t even have starters and he’s definitely better than a bunch of guys who are backups. He’s proven that over half a season. He’s a NFL #2 for sure. The deal with the NFL now is to have a rookie QB to max the cap around the field to have a chance to win. Would you rather have a guy coming out of NCAA you’re drafting at 18-19-20 or bring in a guy who’s played pro for 3 years as a “rookie?” Now return early to play at 7:30 PM in Winnipeg late October with weather approaching freezing…makes no sense to me. They are risking tens of millions of US dollars. -
So decline the option and sign a new contract. Rourke will sign the first NFL deal he sees otherwise in the window. There's nothing compelling guys to come back in the option year window now too. They used to have 10 days to sign with a new NFL team if they were cut and had to sign to active roster. Now nothing. Rourke wouldn't sign a new deal. He's headed south. Think they would move Darby back and use Kramdi at SAM if they needed to. I'm sure Cole could play SAM too.

Liegghio got screwed IMO. Grant had some big ones but was not overly consistent this season, injured obviously for a good chunk. -

The fact that he's their "franchise QB" is their primary problem. He's the 4th or 5th worst starting QB in his division and he's not cheap. -

One big change I noticed in Edmonton these past two seasons is they now have a bunch of really cheap seats and a bunch of really expensive seats. I'm not sure that's the way to move forward. Why don't I buy the cheapest season ticket and just sit wherever I want when it's 2/3 empty? -
Maybe a little bit this year. There's a ton of bonuses, house allowance etc.
-
They should give certain players flags if they don't want to play through the entire play. At least everyone else knows what to do then. Like "oh I caught this ball, I'm done now" Rhymes plants his foot and drops down forward there's no issue at all. The biggest player safety issue continues to be players who aren't prepared to play a contact sport as the one receiving a tackle/hit.
-
I don't think BC is doing anything wrong. They want to win, they'll take the guy as soon as he's cleared especially with the play of his replacements. I don't understand why Rourke personally would risk a NFL career to try to come back months earlier than anyone has from that particular surgery. Everything I know about hand and foot injuries is that regardless of how you're feeling the healing is extremely fragile and the next injury puts you right back at square one if not worse. Rourke has surgery 8 weeks ago as of mid-week this upcoming week. So he's pushing it to get back.

I'd like to see a bunch of guys get reps at WIL/DE in the next game. I'm not sure why Cole doesn't get a shot. Speedy and comes violent. A few snaps as a blitzer last night. Clements is just awful, not sure why he wasn't cut after his first stint. Cooper, whether DE or WIL, even Rutledge at WIL. Also throw the German receiver on the roster instead of Machino. Get Demski out of there so he can rest up for playoffs.

Our backers blitz a ton. Thought our DL looked pretty stout, backers weren't ready to clean up. Key to defending zone run is not run into the wash, force the line to be mobile opening up the gaps for the first wave to break their blocks and get a shot at the back. Clements is brutal at this, just runs right into the pile, makes it easy to block up and gives tons of space to cut back/run counters. Darby made a couple of poor reads too that opened up huge lanes, especially on the one big run. Bighill filled the last gap on the play side to force the back across field but Darby followed Bighill into the gap instead of being patient and cleaning up. Love that the 3down doofus insists that tackle was after the whistle. Clearly was not. Problem on that play was Rhymes quit immediately at the pop and then left himself prone for the finish. Extremely lazy play by Rhymes and he paid for it. Should be trying to fight himself. All I'll say about trying to fight guys post-game is that you have 60 minutes to get that violence out on the field. If you have the energy to try to go at someone post-game you're doing it wrong.

Frustrating piece on the special teams coverage was no adjustment to the kicks. Like the returner is killing our cover teams, how about squibbing the ball or popping it up 15-20 yards shorter? Kinda just let it happen. Also on the long FG's we might want more of a cover crew out there. Not sure Jefferson is a good fit to cover missed FG's for instance, maybe throw Cooper or Cole out there.
