  1. Basically how this works is he’s signed with the Rifles and the Bombers are inviting him as a territorial exemption. He can be on the practice roster and keep U Sports eligibility. NCAA is completely different, and he’d likely never qualify to get into a D1 school since he hasn’t attended US high school and is unlikely to perform well on their standardized tests.
  2. Nice that those guys care enough to be a part of that as NFL players.
  3. There's no way that their costs to compete in Canada would be more than in NCAA or even NAIA. Just think every meal they provide athletes, coaches and support staff in the US is 35% more than the same meal in Victoria, Kamloops, Edmonton, Winnipeg or Saskatoon. Canada West has 6 members within a 5 hour drive of SFU and UNBC in Prince George just a bit farther. 4 schools in Edmonton and Calgary, Lethbridge, then the 5 prairie schools. They'd save a metric **** ton of costs by competing in Canada for all sports. Football conference is a lot smaller, but there's no justification on cost for them on choosing to compete in US college ranks.
  4. Take a look into their other team sports and how they've fared in NCAA D2. I think there will be a significant push from alumni to force the whole athletic department to rejoin CIS or NAIA.
  5. It's not the worst time for an athlete to transfer but kind of sucks for anyone who is all in on going to that school.
  6. SFU has been a joke since they pinballed between NAIA (where they were successful) to CIS (where they were competitive) to NCAA D2 (where they were absolutely outclassed in a much more expensive level to operate in). I expect SFU to come back and play U Sports, what CIS is called now. SFU and UBC have always had this odd fascination with being low level NCAA teams rather than competing with other Canadian universities.
  7. The one guy is a defensive end. The other guy screams SAM, strong half or maybe even WIL to me. As a 6'2 195 guy he's had seasons with 20 plus TFL/sacks so he's playing close to the line.
  8. Based on what? He’s not a place kicker in the CFL. His range is about 35 yards off a tee. Big leg for punting though. Bauming must have missed the guy playing for U of C last year. Thought he usually covers the Bisons. The only challengers for placekicking are the Americans. Interesting how deep they are digging on kickers and punters this off-season. Makes you wonder if they don’t really think they have a shot to re-sign Liegghio or if they don’t want to pay him.
  9. If you're being practical he's nothing more than a developmental player on DL. It's not like he's going to make the roster as a DL right away or ever. He has a way better shot at a career and to be an impact player for the Bombers as a OL. This is a pretty well-worn developmental path. Quite a few Blue Bomber HOF members have followed it, even one guy in the Ring of Honour.
  10. I'm really high on Adamson's potential as a guard. Might have read me saying that last year. Walters had a good way of putting it that it gives his career longevity. Want those athletic guys on the offensive side of the line too. I see a tougher version of Chris Greaves. When you have a guy with the hands and feet but not the explosiveness why the hell wouldn't you flip him around? The U of M DL in the upcoming draft is another one who probably has a better shot as a OL, Kornelson.
  11. And even more interesting stuff about O'Shea personally scouting the latest kicker signing out of Zauner's camp in the US. The last guy we signed out of there was Castillo the first time around.
  12. I think Francis needs to fire his agent. Signed a contract he didn't understand.
  13. Guy only missed 3 kicks over 40 in his whole NCAA career, 90%. Clearly has a leg, see if he has the accuracy and timing at the next level.
  14. The combine is an awesome piece for YouTube both in sum and chopped into clips. No one cares now but on draft day everyone including non-league media will be looking for info and video of the guys the teams added.
  15. What’s the crisis? Almost none of those guys would have started or even played in a CFL game this season….and they’ll be in the 2024 draft. What you’re saying is like saying the NHL would be in crisis if they moved the draft year to 19 from 18. A far bigger issue is the quality of American players coming in. Guys aren’t going to come in young as they have so many options to stay south. Also anyone at a Power 5 school is getting paid as much as they will in the CFL to play NCAA. They aren’t broke anymore, they can bide their time in the States that much longer. On the other hand the CFL will get guys that have been in the US minor pro leagues and are used to being a pro. It’s just a change.
  16. Okeke, Flory and Chiu are the only ones who were ever best at their position for a significant period IMO…but the Hall of Fames tend to just be acknowledgement of guys who have longevity. That line started getting exposed pretty bad in the back half of that decade when Calvillo lost mobility. A lot of the most sacks given up in a game and season on them 06-08.
  17. Hot take here but I think it’s likely long-term the Als move West to a somewhat more accessible area of Downtown Montreal to a shared stadium with a Montreal/Concordia CIS teams. Quebec City is also an option. The current situation can’t go on much longer on a money-in, money-out cash flow basis with the lack of available revenue at McGill. They’ve got the right owner now who can align government with his empire to get things done…has a strong history of doing that.
  18. I think it’s a lot more strategic than the Canadian draft. They’ll have a sense of where they want guys…basically D and OL. If you have guys that can replace a DI it’s pretty huge for letting you use those slots elsewhere…like potentially on a kicker if that’s the best option, extra receiver or back. Hansen and Maruo are already solid role players on D. The other French dude we picked was fine as a fill-in on special teams.
  19. Except when the Nordiques were there. Sure the Habs had the Montreal cosmopolitan Francophone fan base but QC is like Quebec’s Calgary. Couldn’t even find an english media clipping on that team.
  20. Last two people in the bar decide to go home together.
  21. Sanford is way over 300...think he was about 350 at the regional last year. But hit more than 8.5 feet on the broad jump so an athletic fat guy. Played both guard spots for UBC. Tackle length, guard core.
  22. I'm not sure why they spent money on a centre. That's the only spot they had a good player between Clark and Bandy. Blake is a solid guard, Ferland probably the other guard (meh) Bandy might be ok, Godber at centre, total question marks at tackle.
