CHAMPS vs. Flappers - early thread

Well they've turned him into a running back since he's been in Chicago. His strength is having the ball not going downfield to get it. -

I really wouldn't expect any NFL cuts back in season anymore unless they are truly done with the NFL. By the time they get cut and decide to come north they'll have 3-4 games to play here plus playoffs. $150,000 prorated plus playoffs is like less than $50,000 Canadian. If they got on a NFL PR they'd make more than that in 2 weeks. Better to wait and see. -

The guys can all run the routes as they are drawn up on the page. But guys usually have a few that are stronger for them based on their strengths like speed, physicality, how strong their hands are and how they can adjust their hands and body to the ball high low inside outside. Then the big thing is how guys are able to adjust their routes to the coverage, and in a way that gives the QB an opportunity to find them whether they are the first read or it's more of a scramble play. It's all about gaining leverage on the defender and then breaking into open space, might not be much space but enough. The chances of someone getting completely wide open basically come down to a defense completely ******* up their own coverages. There's the physical piece and the mental piece and only a few great ones truly master both. You'll see a guy who is 5'7 with a 4.6 40 dominate the league and a 6'5 guy with a 4.3 who can do 30 reps at 225 fail repeatedly because he doesn't get the mental aspect. -

Lenius could get some good blocking on his film for his next NFL shot if he wants to play here. Could use a tight end. -

I had seen Dressler in Grand Forks because one of my former teammates was playing on UND teams with him, but holy **** when you saw it in the CFL with Michael Bishop at that 2008 Banjo Bowl...guy can get open on every route in the book, run by anyone, catch everything, dive fully extended and catch the ball. Broke my heart that Sask got him and we didn't get him until his body was breaking down. -

I mean it works for Schoen or Lawler who are 6'3. We're talking about the catch radius on a guy who is 5'6 and not a burner. Haven't seen a QB who can throw that guy open in coverage. The way zones are matched to routes now good luck getting someone that open all by himself without a DB having time to recover. Might happen once a game and he'd have to be in the first couple reads for it to get hit. -

Arecenaux is alright. At least he's playing. Not sure what they see at all in Duron Carter. Looks like he doesn't even want to play football anymore. -

They'll stay in range but they'll have their eyes into the backfield and jump other routes. That's my point. He's not really a threat as a receiver, maybe if he had burner speed. One thing they could do is run him on a vertical route as the third receiver to one side with the other two routes being posts after he motions across like he would for a sweep to try to open him up wide-open for a bomb to the sideline. -

Not really because he has no chance to win a 50-50 ball. He'll have to be wide-open to be a threat on a vertical route. The DB doesn't have to sit on top of his routes they can run with him and under him, and he's not like a Weston Dressler or Don Narcisse where he can be a little guy but win with technique/route running. Using Grant as a regular receiver is a turnover waiting to happen. -

Yeah either one of those guys needs a role. Can't just run them on the field for a play when they are going to get a sweep and run them off. Grant did nothing on those sweeps until he was in the game regularly and teams couldn't key on him. But they either need to carve out a role for him as a receiver or limit his usage a bit more, especially when we have different options on the roster. So much RPO stuff we could run off McCrae in the backfield with Oliviera that would open up the field for run or pass. -

No kidding. Especially when there's a guy like Harrison who's a big body who can probably at least draw coverage to more routes to open up the field for everyone else even if he's not going to be a big producer. One thing I've noticed on watching/rewatching is that Grant does not run much variety of routes, crosser, out, sit down curl. That's it. The coverage is right on his hip all the time. He can't get open and he's not a threat to go deep, just kinda out there. We do need Grant to play some so that it's not completely obvious when he's out there to run a sweep or get a quick screen, but it's not every play. -

I don't believe Harrison has touched the field from my viewing. McCrae played a couple snaps as a receiver in Calgary and is on kickoff return with Grant. -

Hope we see some McCrae and Harrison otherwise I'll be sad we didn't leave Wilcots on to keep our DL extra fresh and just torture Harris. -

Top NFL teams are paying their X receivers $25-$30 million bucks and their QB nearly $50 million. They gotta jump on guys like Schoen who can play for cheap for a few years at least. Gotta imagine LA Rams, Buffalo, Green Bay all have eyes on this guy, teams like that. He’ll be cheaper than a draft pick and you have a better idea that he can actually play because of what he has done as a pro. -

Not really sure what the guy thinks he has to gain from tweeting. His own fans probably think he's a joke along with everyone else. You've got Maciocia on the sideline and Harris in the huddle...inspired. -

Nothing at all like Lumsden. Lumsden's carries were being rationed starting from the day he stepped on the field at Mac. He had shoulder problems since he was a kid. -

One spot where Harris got jobbed in his career was TD's. How many times has he got the ball to the 1-2 yard line then in this era they bring in the QB to run the wedge play rather than let him finish it off? He might be challenging Stegall if he got those plays. He's got 83, could have another 40 easy. -

Spent a lot of time in Toronto in my mid-20's....personally hate the location at the CNE of the current stadium. Terrible access from anywhere. The dome is a much better location but kind of sterile for football. They need something in proximity to a major subway station, that's why the Dome is so awesome you jump out at Union Station from damn near anywhere in Southern Ontario and walk over. CNE you have to basically get to Union Station then jump on a bus or streetcar. Riding the bus is riding the bus anywhere...sucks. I don't really know how TFC does it, but they have the better dates I guess. Soccer became trendy. They were just starting out when I was spending time there. Some of the earlier ideas about Varsity (basically on U of T campus) or York campus were probably best. That was when they had the two owners with no money who looked good on TV, 20 years ago. York is really accessible from the whole region too. The Varsity area might get some younger people, U of T students, but in my experience of Toronto wouldn't be a place I'd want to have my family with me at 10 PM. How do the Riders get better? Even if Fajardo is a guy you believe in he's out there on one leg. How does that get better during this season when you throw him out there week after week? He looked a little more peppy in the first quarter of the last game after having a week off then by halftime he could barely move again. Bye weeks aren't going to do it. -

Discussion is about guys as rookies, calm down. Yeah he'll be gone this off-season. Interesting that he even got up here but probably doesn't jump off the page at the underwear olympics. Also played at a school that runs more of a heavy set with TE's and FB's, running QB's as opposed to a spread offense where receivers really shine. -

My guess would be Hardrick would flip to LT and Lofton would come in at RT. If it was mid-game, Hardrick would flip to LT, Gray to RT and Dobson in at guard.
