  1. Season ends before NBA playoffs. The NCAA has enormous ratings on the first two days of the tournament (Thursday-Friday) and then they crater until the Final Four. The current TV deal is for 3 years with the networks not paying for rights but sharing advertising revenue.
  2. The only thing worse than the QB's are the coaches. A bunch of geriatrics would have basically been banished from all other leagues. Continuity will help the QB issue as guys get time to develop as pros and within systems. They should have allowed unlimited backfield motion for the 3 eligibles who are not on the line. The two forward pass rule is basically useless.
  3. The scoring rules are the same. They've evolved a bit 5 points to 6 for a "touch" and a convert going from 2 points to 1. That happened 90 years ago. The FG miss is also only a point if the defending team does not get the ball out of the the endzone. Those kicking decisions happen all the time because of the rouge and the game is way more entertaining for it. A FG is a skill play and making rules to favour punts through the endzone over FG attempts would just be horrific really. I see the craving for changing the scoring rules to just draw right down to wanting to bastardize the game in the name of some inferiority complex to American football.
  4. The people who constantly want to mess with scoring have no respect for the rugby code and it’s influence on Canadian football rules. Kicking is part of the game. Kicking the ball into touch is worth a point. The trade off is where the next scrimmage begins. The point is hardly a reward most often and it also forces the defending team to play the ball if it is.
  5. I would take none of the gameplay rules from the XFL. Special teams are a significant part of the Canadian game and should remain so, including PAT’s. I do like the officiating transparency and having more players mic’d up with the play caller to speed up the game and offer teams a better opportunity to use tempo.
  6. Gunnlaugson (3rd), McEwen (4th) and Carruthers (2nd/skip) should all team up with Samagalski as lead. That team might be competitive with Gushue, Jacobs, Koe etc. Gunnlaugson doesn't have the repertoire to throw last rock IMO, but he'd be a hell of a third in the 5 rock rule era. He'd almost exclusively be playing hits. Gunnlaugson could probably keep McEwen loose enough to stay consistent. Carruthers is good at telling McEwen when to shut up and get in the hack too, don't let him ice himself.
  7. You joke, but the CFL has extremely limited resources. They don't have a legal department, they have a couple lawyers on retainer. Their finance department is three people. There's a limit on the amount of work a limited staff can do on that side of things to both operate a league and manage initiatives. They are really stretched. Ambition is fine but if there aren't resources to manage them those resources come from somewhere else. Teams are also really stretched and nobody wants to put resources into CFL 2.0.
  8. Forget Jones...the CFL is going to have a hard time signing draft picks at that mandated contract. A guy won’t be a free agent for 3 years and basically has to take the minimum salary the whole time? There are guys who will retire from football and guys who will exhaust any and all options outside of the CFL first at those numbers. An extremely stupid overreaction to a few draft picks being overpaid.
  9. My ideal format for the Scotties and Brier would stay at 16 teams and keep Northern Ontario. Ontario is two provinces functionally, you have a winner from the Sudbury-Thunder Bay NW Ontario province and a winner from Southern Ontario. Those two areas basically don't interact, the players from NW Ontario would play small tour events in Manitoba more than they'd play in Southern Ontario. Anyways, my format would be an A pool and a B pool. The A pool would be the top 8 qualified teams by CTRS. The B pool would be the bottom 8 teams by CTRS. The A pool would send 5 teams to the 6 team playoff. The B pool would send 1 team to the 6 team playoff, you'd have to decide what seed they'd end up being, I'd probably make them 4 or 6, if 4 they get hammer and choice of rocks in 4-5 game (see below). The 6 team playoff would be similar format to CFL playoff aside from once it gets to final 4 it's traditional Page playoff. So 1 & 2 seed get bye to Page playoff. 3 plays 6, 4 plays 5, winners are 3 and 4 seed in Page playoff. Even though the playoff is a little more drawn out, there's less games played for all teams. I'd also consider expanding the wildcard to a 3 or 4 team playoff since there will be fewer round-robin games in this format. Overall this format would ensure a more competitive event and excuse those top 8 teams from having to play horrendous teams who are basically rec curlers vs pros.
  10. The point of the show was that he wasn't the boss.
  11. Johnson also played SAM for BC when they still had a pretty good D and that's a lot of what Walters talked about being attracted to in terms of targeting him in free agency. Not a word for word quote but the jist of what he said was he wants veteran guys for the halfback, SAM and safety spots and they'll run with the young guys at corner where the skills are more transferable from the American game to the Canadian game. I guess Hodge wasn't taking good notes. I think in terms of who is where it really will be whatever combo of those vet guys Hall likes heading into the season for both HB spots, safety, SAM between Maston, Taylor, Johnson and Alexander. Pending injury it's definitely a strong spot on the roster IMO, as strong as any secondary can be in a league that is structured to make it extremely difficult to defend the pass.
  12. It's pretty bad when you consider Walters literally spelled out the plan for the secondary in a press conference two weeks ago. If you're hoping to earn an income covering a sport and a team you should know that.
  13. **** I'm kicking myself for even clicking the link on Twitter to read that shitty Hodge article. Try not to enable that shitty garbage.
  14. According to John Hodge the Bombers remaining hole is boundary HB. Guess he missed Walter press conference on free agency day. Taylor and Johnson are our halfbacks. The open spots in the secondary are at corner. Mike Jones is likely to claim one, the other will be determined in camp. Johnson was signed to play inside, maybe even SAM but in that case Maston would move to half.
  15. And the big shot coaches like Marcel Rocque and Jones' coach are up their own asses about playing draws all the time and hitting less. See the downfall of that in all the late-game misses on straighter arena ice in the Scotties. They are trying to turn players like Einarson and Homan into drawers when they are quite good at the up-weight hit game. It's a simple game. Homan has not won anything major since they've tried to change her delivery.
  16. Einarson in the middle of an all-time choke. Knock out one red on her last in 10 and it's game over. Goes for a draw and whiffs, has 2 rocks she could have played a hit on for backing. Brutal, brutal, brutal.
  17. We're talking about 2020....
  18. QB is not the scary part of the Hamilton roster. It's the depth of playmakers all over the D and the never ending ability to integrate and develop playmakers on O.
  19. The players sure have quit on the NY team.
  20. Jones has such little confidence in her draw weight and ability to call sweeping this year that she's panicky and calling lots of weird raises and in-offs that are the kind of thing you mostly see in drunken Tuesday night leagues. I feel like in that game she came out right away thinking she had to try to beat Homan at the high weight hit game...the second end from Lawes shots on down were just bizarre calls that cost them the game.
  21. He left to operate 3DownNation full time and then sold the site to Justin Dunk.
  22. Yeah it wasn't random though. They scouted and drafted. This is a team he picked and now has coached for 2 months.
  23. 88 for Tasker, 161 for Dressler.
  24. Yeah it will be interesting to see how that plays out and how it is allowed to be manipulated.
