Well they'd have 3-4 guys they are comfortable with playing D minimum for the one spot, and they don't have to declare that a NI will be used at a certain position, just that a NI will be on the field at all times on D. So right now there's Thomas, Briggs, Miles, the DB's, Griffiths and whoever we draft, plus Hansen who can't "start" as one of the 7 but unless it changes for this season he can sub in for anyone. Worst case scenario if Thomas and Briggs go down you throw a guy out at field corner if it comes down to it, 2/3 of the QB's in the league can't make a throw out to the field, you just gotta switch to a zone that will make it harder for the O to isolate that guy. **** that used to be the gameplan...remember Matt Bucknor?
-
Yeah depending how the rest of the offseason goes it will either be 6 NI on O and 1 on D or 5 on O 2 on D. They have to maintain that the entire game so if you list 7 on O and zero on D but then you have a couple injuries to the NI's on O it becomes a scramble. You have one guy who is a starter but not technically a "starter" for ratio purposes. Then you have an import sub who can replace anyone on the field on O.

Tasker- 5 catches 65 yards .39 TD per game 90 catches 1170 yard 7 TD per season Dressler- 4 catches 62 yards .54 TD per game 72 catches 1116 10 TD per season ^ There's the career stats broken down per game and season. Lawler is our star IMO. Already right there and primed for a huge breakout with more usage.

If it was a moral issue they kept him for a full season after the suspension. Doesn't seem that way.

Vince McMahon considers move to bring back the XFL

Trestman's Vipers score first offensive TD almost halfway through game 3. #genius -
Yeah but it’s win now. There’s a sort of existential crisis people have with “upside.” Why sign guys like Awe or Antigha and not just go with another talented guy who’s $20,000 cheaper but never played in the CFL who might be as good or better? Because we know what we’ll get from them, there’s some reliability. Tasker would be a nice pickup if we don’t land Walker. That’s all I’m saying. Lawler, Adams, Tasker would be a good crew with the NI’s. And we have some nice options with a little experience behind them, plus any standout rookies.
-
Why do you guys think Tasker’s price point is high? There’s clearly a tiny market for him, he’s probably not going to get more than 90-95k hard money plus some incentives this season. That’s like 15k more than Bailey in hard money and in the ballpark with Whitehead/Nelson. There’s a chance he retires if he feels that’s not worth continuing to play vs his off-field interests.
-
I wouldn’t mind that lineup if Demski mostly played field WR and worked inside here and there, also take some reps in the backfield with or without Harris in there with him. The versatility in the routes he has success with isn’t there for him to be more than a 4th target IMO. We bogged down a lot the past couple seasons when Lapo got enamored with Demski as more than a role player. Walker would mostly play the boundary...Adams would mostly play inside. We’d have to be prepared to switch the ratio so still need some guys on D who can play. I don’t think we’d go truly all import on D because it would hamstring the team in game if there are injuries.

Bailey didn’t do much down the field. He was pretty good on screens and hitches then grabbing some YAC with effort. I agree that Petermann has a lot of potential to be a weapon in the middle of the field and he’s also a guy that’s going to find an extra 2-3 yards every catch.
-
That’s a pretty big gamble to assume either one of those guys can find consistency of a Dressler or Tasker. Even in a down year last year Tasker is probably our best slot. I like Petermann better. Bailey is a great story and clearly works hard but didn’t really see anything special to put him above any other import contending for a job.
-
A lot. The comparison to Dressler was valid in terms of that reliable, consistent veteran safety-valve for the QB. Tasker is a bit thicker than Dressler and slower though. A guy who is a technician and can keep the chains moving. Adams can be that guy too but he disappears for a long time every season. If you’re going to have a receiving group without that game in game out #1 guy who can still win against a lot of attention from a D like a Walker then we could really use another guy in that 2-3 range so that between all those guys we have someone getting it done all the time.

Around The NHL 2019/2020

His name is EAKIN. NO 'S' -
I'd be fine adding Tasker at a nice discount in the low 6 figures. Veteran guy that has experience in two very different styles of offense in his CFL career, knows how to find open space and catch the ball.

Walters was pretty open about Walker on 1290. Said he doesn’t expect to take a pay cut on what he made last year ($290k) and that the Bombers are basically waiting the situation out with no real pressing need to make a move.

That bonus is on top of the hard money...basically gives Collaros an opportunity to earn BLM/Reilly money with performance and health. Kongbo vs rookie at minimum is a saving of about $30,000...so Bryant’s increase or part of Jefferson’s. My belief based on napkin accounting is that the Bombers could easily slot in another receiver at about $150-160k (essentially replacing the third import spot at $70k, so add about $80-90k). Beyond that they’d have to get creative, as you mention the injury list would have to help open up some cap space. Another potential move would be to deal the lowest of the experienced and well compensated NI OL on the depth chart, probably Geoff Gray.

They don't have a stadium to host it. They won't get one until the Big O gets renos for the 2026 World Cup.

Yeah it's a pretty big risk for anyone with a legitimate CFL job available I'd say. SJ Green makes sense to me. The others it seems risky. Keeping in mind the benefits CFL players have (as much as they ***** about them) including medical coverage and pension. Have no idea what the XFL has but I'm sure it's not much beyond basic liability/injury insurance.

Yes 30 fronts, three linemen. That’s pretty common. You might see 4 backers on the field a couple times a game around the goal-line. Most teams don’t even dress 4 LB’s who play D. The big adjustment happened when Jeffcoat returned along with Kongbo taking more reps where they would consistently run three edge type rushers on the field on passing downs, with or without a nose tackle.

They won’t. Outside of short yardage you’ll never see 7 DL/LB on a CFL field at the same time. Will see as usual some 30 fronts with two backers and a mess of DB’s and might see some 30 fronts with a rushing LB.

Awe is garbage on D. Don’t want him as more than a role player.

Yeah it's a real reach for attention that is beneath an institution like the CFL. The fact Ambrosie thinks that way in troublesome IMO. Improve the product, forget the sideshow.

I actually really like the Franklin signing for Sask. I think with a good QB coach in Maas (don't try to tell me Trestman is a good coach at this point, he hasn't developed a QB in a CFL lifetime) he has a real shot to dethrone Fajardo in the next couple seasons. Fajardo takes a beating and will probably miss some games.
-
They'll try this until the travel costs multiply by a factor of 10 when BC has to travel to Montreal or vice-versa and other the traditional format BC would have played Calgary and Montreal would have played Ottawa. I would keep the current format with the only change of having the team with the better record hosting every playoff game, meaning if a 10-8 team crosses over to face a second place 8-10 team, the game is hosted by the crossover team. Incentivize the regular season games and give advantages to teams who earn it.

Did they not write any rules on late hits for this league? -
Vince McMahon considers move to bring back the XFL

Yeah terrible quarterbacks. They probably should have focused more on rules to advantage QB's and receivers more...and also spent some money to get some borderline NFL guys with experience, maybe even poach some guys from the CFL who have played.
