Who is the top receiver in free agency?
JuranBoldenRules replied to BBlink's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
So far he's shown the opposite. Might be able to run the option package but doesn't have a strong or accurate arm. -
Collaros signs 2 year deal

MBT is garbage and Arbuckle is a .500 QB who started 6 pro games. I'll take Collaros. -
Collaros signs 2 year deal
JuranBoldenRules replied to sweep the leg's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Yeah that's a dream scenario. I think if Streveler stays in the CFL it's going to be a tough bidding war with the Argos and Redblacks. Bombers are mostly selling continuity and hoping he takes a bit of a discount. -
Collaros signs 2 year deal
JuranBoldenRules replied to sweep the leg's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The signing bonus is the cost of keeping Collaros from the market. Really the options are Collaros or Nichols, and the Bombers are all-in on Collaros. Now the question becomes how would Streveler fit in. Basically we gotta hope he doesn’t come into the picture until the fall. The Bombers don’t have the cap space to fit another money QB on the roster. The other question moving forward is how we replace the production Streveler brought to the offense as the option QB. Going to need a lot more from the downfield passing game I think. -
Bombers Unveil Offensive Coaching Staff
JuranBoldenRules replied to bearpants's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
It's pretty hard to break through. Lots of head coaches are basically the OC whether they have the title or not, Montreal, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary. So really there's 5 OC positions. -
And he's got 600 combined yards and 4 special teams tackles in those games. What's the problem?

Whitehead can't catch punts so being a returner in the CFL is basically an impossibility for him. He will have to make it as a receiver.

Disagree. He was quite good on punts. Not all going to be big returns or TD's. He was reliable which is key. Grant is better especially if he comes back having worked on ball control and snagging punts. Nelson also brings a lot of value with his work covering kicks as a DI/extra import if we keeping rolling with 8 Canadian starters.

Game 48: vs. Lightning
JuranBoldenRules replied to captaincanuck12's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Well if Maurice survives this past horrendous stretch at home and a loss like this he's 1000% closing out this season as the coach and getting an extension, probably 2 years. You watch what guys like Sbisa and Kulikov are doing jumping guys at centre ice and allowing 2 on 1's or even 2 on 0's into the Jets zone behind them and you have to wonder if that's the plan or they are doing their own thing. Either way that coach needs to go. -
They are entitled to work for the CFL under a work permit. If they applied to work at McDonald's they wouldn't be able to. Pro teams are exempt from having a labour market assessment. In the real world outside of the TFW program that is what makes it basically impossible to hire someone who does not have resident status in Canada. If import players are cut/retire they are simply treated as a visitor in Canada and cannot earn income unless they apply for residence.

500 yards with start position being at the 30 should be 40+ points easy. They schemed to make it difficult for the Ravens to end drives and score points. It worked. Same as Tampa vs Vick in the early 00's. Everyone is going to defend him the same way, the smart disciplined teams will drive him nuts. They'll win 9-10-11 games each season, but doubt they can run the gauntlet of the NFL playoffs unless Jackson can find his accuracy to hit the sideline throws.

He can throw the ball if the D allows the middle of the field to be attacked. Titans schemed him with two high safeties right on the seams to force him to throw to the sidelines and just waited until he made two mistakes in a row to get off the field. Accuracy is a big issue for LJ. What works for him is the D getting completely psyched out by the RPO and his running ability. Tennessee schemed perfectly to beat him and played disciplined. IMO his career is likely to follow a trajectory similar to Vick's. He'll have a hell of a time getting through the playoffs vs the best teams/coaches in any year, but he'll tear up the league as a whole. Baltimore needs to add a dynamic running back who is a threat to catch a pass and a legit deep threat to simplify throws for LJ outside the hashmarks.

Well first off anyone wanting to work in Canada who is not a Canadian requires a visa to do so, essentially approval from the Federal Government to work in Canada. There are programs in certain industries that allow more foreign workers but in general it is pretty difficult to hire someone who isn't Canadian into the labour market unless it can be shown it is necessary. Thus the question on every job application/in every interview...are you legally entitled to work in Canada?

Goldeyes can only employ so many players at a certain level of experience and must roster 4 players classified as rookies. In effect it functions the exact same as the CFL roster rules just that the restriction is on where the players are from and who is designated as a QB, not based on their years of experience.

It's getting a lot less black and white as it becomes more of a speed and deception game. Realize the Wildcat came from Arkansas then Urban Meyer's time at Florida then through the NFL. That was happening long before the CFL picked up on having those gadget plays with RPO and different guys taking snaps. The NFL like every level is looking for guys that are multiple. Every team has at least one guy that basically can't be classified between tailback/receiver/TE/FB. And now they are adding guys who have QB skills but also those athletic skills to carry the ball and run routes. Teams are winning by relying on those types of players. Look at the final four, Tennessee and San Fran are not running a typical offense at all. Tennessee is running an option offense that Streveler would be perfect for, look at how many snaps they are running with what we used to call "wingbacks" in front of Henry. San Fran is running a modified West Coast that basically has no outside receiving threat, their best wideout is essentially a tailback who often runs routes from inside the tackles and their best overall receiver is an H-Back. Dime a dozen QB's who athletically are at the top of their draft class? You're going to be hard pressed to find a QB with anywhere near the passing success Streveler had in NCAA as well as the measurables, then add on what he's done here. There are some pure option/RPO guys that might run as fast, but not a single one like him as a total package. A football player who is willing to be a football player and has trained his whole life as a QB, huge football IQ. A team is going to roster him to run certain packages. Hill is the blueprint. He's gradually been integrated into the offense more and more. First season he's mostly chasing kicks. On the PR doesn't dress until game 13. Next season he's returning kickoffs, running an option set as QB with Brees on the field as well and playing H-Back. This season he's gradually worked into the offense more as an H-Back, still taking snaps in some sets but playing almost half of the offensive snaps as an H-Back/slot receiver. More and more NFL teams are operating redzone option/RPO packages similar to what Lapo ran successfully with Streveler here. Even if Streveler doesn't end up developing the receiving abilities Hill has he's hugely useful carrying the ball and running the option package. To me Green Bay is the perfect fit for Streveler in terms of how he would compliment Rodgers and that offense. If I'm Streveler or his agent I'm avoiding Arizona as their starting QB is an option guy, Miami and Tampa it's hard to say who their starter next season will be and what that would mean for a guy like Streveler in terms of being that compliment. Really I'd be looking for an opening similar to the role he played here with the starter being more of a pocket guy where he could run a separate package.

Whitehead is 180 lbs speed guy who can't run routes, has average hands and doesn't play through contact. Whitehead has exactly one skill. Streveler is 230 lbs, runs sub 4.4 40 and is a football player. He willed the Bombers to wins against the other top two teams in the West this season. We're talking about a guy who has the athletic ability and the intangibles. Everybody in the world knows what's coming and he can run through and past a defense that knows exactly what he's going to do. That's a freak.

Hill never played receiver before he joined the Saints. If you want to see Streveler avoid contact watch the highlights of the West Semi Final when he ran right past the entire Calgary D ON A BROKEN FOOT!

Streveler ran through and around Calgary's D in a playoff game with a broken foot. He's going to the NFL. Even before that he was going to the NFL. They missed him and they are kicking themselves for it. He has a place on a NFL team as a football player. They don't need him to be a passer.

CFL News Conference in Montreal This Morning
JuranBoldenRules replied to SpeedFlex27's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Sure if they owned/managed the stadium and had access to the cash flows available (concessions, parking, ticket sales). They don't and they won't anytime soon unless they want to build their own stadium. Even if you look at quite successful franchises, Riders, Bombers, to a lesser extent Ottawa and Hamilton, the football operation is at best break-even and then they are looking at league revenues and other events to squirrel away a few bucks, plus the opportunity to host a Grey Cup once a decade as basically a reserve fund. This is basically the pro sports model right now even in the leagues where revenues are in billions. IMO Montreal for the CFL is a market where by necessity you need an owner who is basically operating the team for charity. They aren't going to make money and will more than likely lose money consistently as the cost to operate a CFL team increases. They don't have the asset of a facility to host events other than football games. They don't have a facility suitable to host a Grey Cup. -

From the history they put on the website it sounds like he started a scrap yard that was profitable and then kept buying more scrap yards until he was in a position to purchase a company that repurposed the scrap too. The main thing is cash. Would be interesting to hear what the league insisted on being put up as a bond or surety to purchase the Alouettes. Wetenhall talked about losing $12 million on one season for operations so I don't think I'd want anyone owning a CFL team who had less than $50 million cash or access to liquid capital of that value. That's enough to operate the team for four years at a loss. In the presser they were talking about needing to be profitable in year 2-3. Good f-ing luck in that market. They haven't run a profitable team ever, even in the glory days of the Big O in the 70s. -
The cap on first contracts signed by Canadians is really low. A bunch of guys who spent time in the NFL will never come to the CFL.

There's a "Crawford Steel" which trades on the NYSE and appears to be the parent company of the Canadian from their website and created by Spiegel. Anything traded as a security needs to file financials, and the cash flow does not look good. Lots of assets, not a lot of cash coming in. -
Based on what? Because he played receiver and you recognize his name?

Just going by first impressions and the balance sheets I get from Google....I doubt we make it through this decade without the league running the Als again. These guys are way undercapitalized unless they have some other business that isn't being reported today. Cash flow into their steel business has dropped $77 million in the last 5 years. I doubt they have the ability to absorb any losses for the Als. -
Ottawa's first two picks every year are an undersized OL who struggles to transition to guard or a center and a H-Back/fullback. They don't draft well is my point, so yeah they probably wouldn't get great value. It's a steal for Calgary though. Almost unbelievable. Even if Ottawa wins the bidding war they lose IMO. Hard to believe there's not a pick swap with that condition, like maybe they get Calgary's 6th overall pick for the 1st if Arbuckle signs.
