  1. Yeah in all honestly if they had any doubts about his ability to throw I don't know why you don't just roll with Wilson. He looked fine confidence wise when he was out there. As much as I'll defend the coaching here, there's a "go down with the ship" culture with the vet players where if you questioned O'Shea on that he'd be like "but that's our QB." And then you'd be like, but he doesn't have a throwing hand...but it doesn't seem to matter. We're just going to lose the game with that guy throwing 3 more pick sixes because he's the guy. And that is completely bonkers. There's no adjustment to "what's our best chance to win the game based on the current reality."
  2. Lapo has succeeded as a play caller when he's had a head coach prodding him to be aggressive. He's 1000% not the guy you want deciding to go for it or not, but he can design and call the plays just fine. Wouldn't say he has a "system." Obviously everyone has tendencies but as someone designing an offense he is one of the best at matching scheme to talent he has. All time bad head coach though.
  3. For all the people shitting on punt team...Argos were actually way underwater on their punt return team tonight with a lot of tiny returns and a bunch of penalties. We could have Jake Julien booming 60 yard punts with a 27 yard return average against to make us feel better though.
  4. That was from the first snap of the game. And yeah, our other receivers **** the bed which is the story of most of our season with 2-3 of our top 4 guys being down the entire season. Not going to win in this league if you can't pass for first downs.
  5. Maybe. Biggest issue is guy drops a punt and then we're chasing the game instead of controlling it. Not really an adjustment aside from the fact Whitehead shouldn't be anywhere near a CFL roster in 2024. You talked about margin of error to win the game all week. We made that margin smaller and smaller with stupid mistakes mostly related to catching the ball. I think Dinwiddie trusted his QB and our D schemed like he wouldn't. We defended the big play, and Arbuckle just took what was there to manage the game. We lose our QB and it's basically game over especially since Wheatfall can't play pitch and catch with Wilson. I don't know what adjustment Dinwiddie made at half to break Collaros finger and have Whitehead drop a punt at our endzone. Dinwiddie had a great game plan and stayed patient. He knew it would be a classic CFL game down to the wire either way, gotta be in it at the end then the floodgates opened up for him with our mistakes and Collaros getting dinger.
  6. Gameplan on O was perfect in first half. Too many plays and drives killed by receiver mistakes. Missed opportunities to extend drives and score points, so kept it close. D was very passive and kept your O out there, no impactful turnovers which we needed to dominate the game. 3rd Q our O was barely on the field and that's where the game really turned. Our punt returner handed you 7, when we got the play to get it back it was taken away on a ticky-tack call. Our backup QB throws a TD pass that a rookie receiver makes an attempt at like he's looking into a full ******* eclipse trying to track it.
  7. One thing the culture has lost...D and special teams used to be all about attacking the ball. Turning over the ball. Maybe specials still kind of is because we're one of the better teams at blocking punts, but how many games did we have 0 or 1 INT's/fumbles out of the D this year? We're pretty consistently losing the turnover battle and margin to win is a lot less. Seems like we got loaded up with star players and forgot how to win games, just leave it in their hands.
  8. I don't think it would be much different. Wallace seems pretty raw to me. Like his aggression level, but he's pretty stiff. I think it was borderline negligent to not stick with 3 import OL in the second half of this season. Things got a bit jumbled on O when Wolitarsky got hurt, but with the amount of snaps we had on D with Canadians we could have easily rolled with Randolph and one of Dobson/Neufeld in. Keep Chris-Ike in, rep him some at slot, Augustine if you need, bunch of fringe guys you could sign as an extra Canadian receiver too. Then you get Dobson as the extra guy most likely, Eli probably stays on as the 7th since he can play center and Wallace would be in the lab.
  9. Yep. Was sad when he was traded and we weren't the acquiring team. Exact kind of guy we needed along with a rookie rush end to fill out our DL.
  10. There's no shortage of cash. Off football operations since pandemic they have 8 figures in the kitty. If they want to be in the home Grey Cup and win it they have the money to have whoever they want on the roster of current CFL players.
  11. Our current OL did not move very much. Don't think they trust Dobson. Saw a lot more pressing A gaps and power traps with Geoff Gray in there and mobile. Bryant basically voiced this to media this week but they didn't get the slam on Dobson that it was.
  12. It was in the right spot. If it's right on him it's a pick like the one before to Lawler should have been with them in Cover 2 cut in the red zone. Wheatfall just an awful player. Not a pro level player.
  13. Couple big runs and garbage time. Yeah I would have liked them to run more especially out of a zone read look. They needed to get Collaros moving a lot more too and get more easy throws. Worst place for him to be on 90% of snaps was a straight drop back but we did it. But it's folly to just say feed the back. It's a massive oversimplification.
  14. Wilson literally got two wide open throws to the back pylon for TD's. Missed the first one, put the second one right out there for Wheatfall to make the play. They schemed that perfectly. The box was stacked.
  15. Really the receivers are a huge issue. OL too. Yeah Collaros struggled, but man, not a lot to work with. And you can't just hand Oliviera the ball 20 times and think that's going to work. Need some guys out there who want the ball, who can figure out how to play against zone. Big drop when we lost Wolitarsky. Need to make Demski a role player who can make the odd catch, take the odd hand off, not a critical piece but a guy the D has to respect. We went from 19-21 with OL where we could handle anything to 22 when we started to see some cracks to here in 24 where we ditched probably 2 of our best 3 OL and felt it. Lofton is a very average American tackle, nothing special. We didn't replace Gray's mobility. Dobson is like a Madden 77. Mauler with slow feet, really struggles in pass pro. Neufeld's decline has been gradual but getting sharper. If I'm Wade Miller I'm walking into February willing to spend $2 million plus on receivers, OL's and guys who can rush off the edge.
  16. Man Lawler was among the only players we had on the field tonight. Toronto just took him away because we had nothing else. Schoen...maybe there's some talk there. If he's healthy in these past 2 Grey Cup games we win. But again...personnel side, what are we doing? We had a whole season to replace Schoen this year and we already had a receiver derby in camp because we needed to fill a couple spots.
  17. We've been hanging onto Marty Costello by a thread for a couple years. I think if he got a decent FCS OL coach job he'd be gone. Our D staff outside of Younger are all up there in years.
  18. I think it's kind of a "oh they won't trust their backup QB" kind of idea. And way off the mark. Clearly felt ok about Arbuckle chucking it around. Maybe if it was Dukes. They certainly have a ton of vertical threats. They've been signing the kind of receivers we should be grabbing for Collaros instead of that group of little guys we had in camp this year who ended up having to fill 2-3 spots most of the year. We didn't really show much to cause confusion either. We're just dropped out, everyone lining up 8 yards off, they can basically count on Jefferson not trying to rush and even if you're worried about his arms just roll to that side and he's nullified. Just crazy because we had Sask completely off balance last week with our alignment and coverages/blitzes out of it.
  19. I don't think you'll see any changes to coaching staff unless a few of them move onto promotions or jobs in NCAA. Richie Hall might retire.
  20. Ambrosie really excited to hand Grey Cup to Toronto in Vancouver. Wouldn't have been as good for Canada if Winnipeg won.
  21. That wasn't Richie Hall's D this year. He blitzes a hell of a lot more than that. We covered aggressively most of the time. Not really sure why we adjusted so much tonight into more of a Cover 4. Took away opportunity for DB's to make plays. Seems like we were really thinking they'd force it vertical and not just try to stay on the field. Maybe we need fewer coaches who played for the Argos.
  22. McManis should be MVP. Apparently our whole intermediate passing game was shut down by his presence. Our receivers took all the hits but didn't want the ball.
  23. The scary thing with this roster is without some massive changes in free agency our OL looks really bad moving forward. Wallace might play at one guard spot but he's blown out both knees in 2 of past 3 seasons. Not sure I'd go into a season counting on him for 18 games +. Neufeld is done. Dobson is off his rookie deal, tough to value him and hard to know what someone else might pay. He should get better, but seems to have plateaued a bit. Load up on Americans.
  24. The offside on the first pick six by the Argos is really bad. The blitzers foot is level with our RT's foot at the snap.
