  1. They aren't really doing anything to help him out unless he's not running the plays properly. They need to move the pocket to help him and cut the field in half, cut his reads to half the field and help him get it out quicker or at least get on the move. And I kind of question if he's making some changes during plays because they've been running some slide protection which shows they want him to at least quarter roll and move a bit and he's just kind of hanging in place.
  2. When's the last time one of our DB's or LB's actually made contact with a QB on a blitz? Useless.
  3. Yeah slide protection, Nichols statues and you get 4 seconds to get to him.
  4. I wonder if there's a key player effect with Bighill. Seems like our entire D was making plays when he was out, now nobody making plays. Perhaps waiting for him to do it subconsciously?
  5. Bighill dropping out as safety...Hall spending too much time around Lapo? Exactly one guy consistently making plays on D, that's Jefferson. The rest really need to step up.
  6. Bombers need to disguise better in formation. On Begelton play can see that Gaitor or Wilson coming, Arbuckle reads Wilson who drops into coverage and then just waits for long crosser.
  7. Good lord. Calgary waiting on that blitz.
  8. Maver really ****** himself there by coming so far upfield.
  9. Grant went pretty much straight upfield there, one move and gone.
  10. Hesitation costs us a 3rd and short to continue the drive.
  11. No flag for finishing that tackle well out of bounds? Hope they let us have one of those too.
  12. Matthews needs to get that yard.
  13. The nice thing about Matthews is they got him signed in low 6 figures with decent bonus structure, very little up front, because he literally had no market. It was very low risk for the Bombers, and that's really the only way he fit in here.
  14. This team is built to be this team for exactly 1 season. Sure some guys are just starting three year deals, but about 1/3 of the team will be free agents at the end of this season, including many key Canadians.
  15. Will be interesting to see who comes on the roster if Jeffcoat goes out. We'd have an open import spot. Could be an extra DB, maybe LB. Have Maston (added to active already), Dale Warren and Korey Jones. We don't have an import DL around.
  16. Well the points didn't come from his arm, they came from Harris and the OL whipping the Argos LB's. Nichols threw one completion in the ENTIRE GAME that travelled more than 12 yards vertically down the field. Pick any one of Brian Brohm, Robert Marve, Max Hall, Justin Goltz, Joey Elliott...that's the kind of thing we'd be talking about after they started a game.
  17. That was a pretty poor attempt at Prevent. Bighill and Wilson were blitzing on like 3 out of 4 plays.
  18. You also need to call better plays to stay on the field!
  19. OL was not good vs Hamilton, but was fine against Toronto. Nichols did not see a lot of heat, had tons of time and was cycling through his reads then dumping off to Harris. Really issue comes down to Toronto playing quarters coverage and taking away deep shots, Bombers have very little intermediate passing game with lack of trust in Nichols to hit tight windows, throw behinds and other throws that potentially put ball in harms way if slight bit inaccurate. That intermediate passing game is really important in having a balanced offense, if it's not there very easy to defend passing game in general. Bombers have the receivers/backs to do damn near everything, you've got Lawler, Wolitarsky, Matthews who are BIG targets. You've got Whitehead and Demski who bring a lot of speed and YAC potential once they have the ball, you've got Petermann who can do everything but is especially reliable in the middle and also a guy who tends to gain YAC, they had Rasheed Bailey dressed who looks to profile as a thicker Denmark type of steady guy. If a QB can't make the throws to enable this offense to function pretty seamlessly I think that's a tremendous problem in isolation of the rest of the team. Lapo's excuse for not riding Harris at 20-0 was incredibly faulty and gives some insight into his mindset. Mostly it's just sickening to hear the excuses given what he has to work with. See bluebombers.com.
  20. What separates average from great? It's the ability to make the two or three throws a game that separate winning from losing. Often this is just a matter of stringing together 2-3 first downs at a certain point in the game, regardless of earlier mistakes. Even when Nichols has been playing well he's often outdueled in this regard. Putting up a bunch of TD's in the first half is often not enough.
  21. Harris has a problem scoring points. He's a perfect fit in Edmonton in the tradition of Ray, Maas and Reilly.
  22. He hasn't really done it in a long time. We get pretty excited about average QBing after last season.
  23. Sure. We could have a QB making what BLM or Reilly do if we dropped say Neufeld and Matthews. It would probably be worth it. Problem is attracting those guys. I don't believe either were truly testing the market. Reilly wanted to go to BC, BLM was Calgary or NFL.
  24. Lapo is an overthinker. Almost every week we come out with a tactic that works in terms of misdirection, Harris, something that's working easy, and then he shifts away from it and never goes back.
  25. Calgary has no shortage of weapons. Each game they've dressed 2 RB's who are excellent. They have a bunch of receivers, probably the best overall slot in the league in Eric Rogers.
