  1. Loffler is a playmaker for sure, grabbed a lot of turnovers. Consistency wasn’t there.
  2. When Thomas comes in we can sub Hecht for an import even without “starting” a Canadian on the DL. I suspect that Hecht will play about half the snaps and most often come out on 2nd and longs, and when we are in 30 fronts with Briggs getting some reps at WIL too.
  3. Hecht is a concern. Biggest flaw in our D last season was Loffler’s lack of range and struggle to pick the right route to get on top of in match coverages. Haven’t seen Hecht play a lot of DB since his early days in Calgary but I definitely feel like he’s a substantial downgrade on an already weak spot. But it’s pretty clear that we’re all in on pass rush and I think that’s a good idea in this era of pass interference pretty much negating any attempt to cover anyway.
  4. A solid centre who has never played centre in a meaningful game. "Solid" might be a little strong.
  5. Played with and against Harris, coached against the rest and coached a few of them in provincial team program. Harris and Oliviera are workhorses that none of the rest compare to. The big test for Oliviera in terms of whether or not he gets the opportunity Harris did to be an every down tailback is if he can pick up the pass protections and become a great receiver out of the backfield.
  6. Simonise would have been in direct competition with Petermann for the receiver spot and then for a bottom of the roster spot with guys like Exume, Janke and Hallett. Miller, Rush, Miles, Lalama are in a different category for special teams, Simonise can't play where they do on kick cover/return.
  7. Mostly they just have to convince the BOG that they are willing to spend money. In reality no matter how much money they have they'll be looking for bailouts from the league if/when losses mount, and if they don't get it they'll probably just abandon the team as has happened repeatedly in the East with Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and Hamilton in the last 40 years.
  8. The opportunity was there. Wolitarsky was essentially a nobody coming into camp last year too, there was a spot up for grabs, roles on offense up for grabs. The guys who showed versatility and made plays are still here.
  9. Dondre Wright should be a no-brainer signing for the Bombers if he's interested, given the situation with NI's in the secondary.
  10. Welcome to the CFL Draft. Who's Randy Colling? In the end what matters is who is on the roster, not how they got there.
  11. The problem with the lens a lot of people are looking at these cuts with, and will look at cuts in football generally, is that decisions are made to build the best team today. The contracts aren't long enough to work otherwise, and there's really not a lot of practice reps to go around to develop players, practice is for game prep unless you're a non-competitive team. If a guy isn't good enough to play he can't develop in the pros, plain and simple.
  12. Or it's how you end up paying Brock Ralph 6 figures hoping he'll be good because he's tall and fast.
  13. Think it means Oliviera and Augustine made the team, plus the fullbacks. Also Simonise lost out to an import receiver/returner. Too much competition to coast onto the roster.
  14. Bennett is a crazy athlete but he doesn’t have the accuracy to consistently hit those midrange passes that CFL offenses are built on. Have only seen a bit of McGuire but he’s shown some passing ability. Bennett is more of a thrower. For a 3rd string guy who isn’t going to get reps, might be advantageous to have a guy who can launch deep balls and run, but if I had to pick one to develop it would be McGuire. Hopefully we keep both for the time being.
  15. QB’s are a separate roster designation. If you list a QB as a RB that just means you have to bench you’re other RB, you don’t gain a roster spot.
  16. Nelson also played some DB in college, could come in handy never know. In 2015 Stoudermire was rostered as a WR and played DB in a game.
  17. Tait can't say Proulx...says Proool. Kind of grating after the 4th time.
  18. Really nice use of the waggle by Whitehead there too following under a couple clearing routes and making that cut to the post to get the pass, then once he has the ball no one gets close to him, jukes the only guy who had a chance out by 10 yards.
  19. Whitehead made a move there to get to open field that Lankford couldn't even make in his dreams. That catch was also in traffic.
  20. Those new Als uniforms are a hideous rip-off of the University of Virginia's.
  21. Davis doesn't give two shits about Oakland. He was trying to move the team all the time to get money out of governments.
  22. Funny that he writes for a blog now, because the fact he made a career writing for a newspaper shows through that. Limit access to those who pay, don't find other revenue sources. Christ the Riders could probably get Pilsner or SGI or John Deere to cut a $50,000 cheque to sponsor the stream.
  23. You think? There's preseason tickets on StubHub for under $50 for all teams in that area, some GB tickets for $10. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Wonder how much of a risk the Bombers are taking, or if they are simply providing the facility for a fixed fee with some incentives for sales.
  24. Coombs needs to find health and diversity in his skill set.
  25. No. Came into game vs Hamilton and was brutal.
