  1. I don't believe the Bombers give two shits about recovering picks. They don't have roster spots and any guys with any chance of getting a NFL shot will not be signing under the new CBA rules until those are exhausted. Go through the roster, where is there a spot to slot in a rookie Canadian on the gameday roster? We have more OL than we can roster, we have 3 NI tailbacks, we have two pretty good fullback/TE types who are monster special teamers, we have 3 NI receivers, we have Thomas, we have Briggs, Gauthier, we have Hallett, Exume and we have a guy like Griffiths who we've been developing on the DL. The only two spots we might want a high-end guy are DL and DB, but any of the DL are going to do the NFL thing and really unlikely you can draft a guy at DB who steps up day 1 on D. I think the Bombers are just fine picking late in the 2nd round and then mostly in the mid-late rounds this year.
  2. Exactly. Unless there is a significant signing bonus in year 1 that isn't being offered without the term nobody is taking more than a one-year deal. The potential for trade you mention is just another reason why.
  3. There's no upside in term for the players. The contracts aren't guaranteed.
  4. The current McEwen team has the most passive aggressive communication, especially for a team trying to accomplish the same goal. That lead is a real ******. The bigger problem is the panic McEwen works himself into when he has a tough end and struggles to read the ice. He takes himself right out of games. Gunnlaugson is crazy but he keeps things positive and stays calm.
  5. Wonder if Lawler ends up playing the boundary. Adams has struggled like crazy there to find any consistency and often ended up in the slot more than anywhere else. Buck obviously will have some different ideas. Adams is decent value at 140k, still room to add someone >200k probably at the cost of adding that money into the secondary and going young/value there. I'm not a huge fan of Bailey as anything other than a fill-in. Plays real hard but nothing special in terms of routes or hands. Even if they don't add a big free agent I think he has a tough time making the roster.
  6. Weird thought Landry Jones was supposed to be face of the league as Dallas QB.
  7. It's almost like free agency is a negotiation.
  8. Brescacin will get a deal close to Wolitarsky's on the open market.
  9. I think they've sort of hit the perfect window to where if it's going to work it will be in this time of year. Season ends basically when NHL/NBA playoffs start, Sunday after NFL Draft. The on-field product would be as good as it could be if they had more normal special teams, that stuff is hard to wrap you're head around. None of the games have been close enough for the 9 point TD to come into play. They could steal some of the CFL pre-snap rules to mitigate the shitty quarterbacking, unlimited motion. I think a lot of the ideas trialed here will be adopted by NFL and CFL, like spotting the ball faster to cut down on time between plays and having the coach's mic to QB open to all players to speed up playcalling. I don't believe the TV/Streaming rights will have any significant value though.
  10. I like the refs and replay booth being fully mic'd and available to viewers. CFL could implement this very easily. Gives insight into calls being made and is entertaining. Still slow as hell to complete reviews though.
  11. Trestman's Tampa Vipers playing today. Man the Meadowlands looks empty with 10,000 people in it.
  12. I think it has decent potential if they figure out how to help out the QB's to get the ball out quicker (unlimited motion, forward motion for the guys not on the line) and give up on the kickoff nonsense (with all the blockers lined up flat 5 yards across from cover team also lined up flat there is no chance for a return). Will it be popular enough to pull eyeballs from NCAA basketball on spring weekends and money from broadcasters? We'll see. To me it basically fills the niche that the Arena league filled at its peak. If it goes for multiple seasons it will be interesting to see if the flat salary structure can hold.
  13. Maybe more exciting than a game between the 29th and 30th best QB's. There's been one QB out of four so far who is a reasonable passer, the guy on LA. They'd be smart to adopt some rules that would actually help the offenses and QB's out, like allowing unlimited motion pre-snap. Special teams has basically been taken out of this game which doesn't add to excitement IMO. That's where the better coached teams shine through and tons of big plays happen, plus plays that set up scores, exchanges of field position. So far through 6 quarters almost every offensive drive is starting around their own 30, field position is not a part of this game because of the rules. Big plays on D are exciting too!
  14. The only actual kickoff return I've seen was because of a muffed catch. Wonder how quickly they'd adjust the rules...and how they didn't realize the lineup would make it impossible to bust a return.
  15. I do like hearing the conversation between the ref and replay official. CFL can steal some of the good ideas.
  16. Nice that they leave the mics hot when a guy is injured and being tended to for all of us to hear.🙃
  17. There's some good receivers in this game. Proehl on Seattle is a guy I'd neg list. QB's are junk.
  18. The impact Jefferson's salary will have is on the 3rd import DL cap wise. On the receiver end there's some money to spend with Adams money out of the picture plus the bucks they allocated last season for Matthews. Signing Jefferson won't stop the pursuit of a top receiver as a replacement for Adams.
  19. There's been some pretty horrific headshots on receivers in this game too, one was on a tailback on a screen he took a headshot on the initial contact and as he was heading down to the turf another guy drilled him helmet to helmet. Not many flags.
  20. The kickoff setup basically makes it impossible for the return team to set up blocks for a big return. Might as well get rid of kickoffs.
  21. First game been real sloppy so far. Looks like offenses relying mostly on screens. Talent level not very high, which is pretty much always the downfall of these leagues, especially with QB's who can't pass. Certainly not wide-open football, one offensive TD so far.
  22. I think rush end is a position to wait on. The market is pretty flooded and after the game of musical chairs ends there will still likely be a few really good players available who still need a chair and now have less leverage for $$$.
