Around the League: 2019 Off Season
JuranBoldenRules replied to SpeedFlex27's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
If Ambrosie doesn’t want to be second rate to NFL he better stop employing Americans. This league doesn’t have energy or resources (including time of the minimal staff they have) to waste. If Ambrosie things these partnerships are going to bring significant growth he’s really staking his future on it because they don’t have much else going in terms of league initiatives, beyond a bleak looking Atlantic expansion. This while at least three CFL markets are in crisis. BTW Canadians have always gone to play in these leagues and other semi-pro leagues in Canada too. Tons of ex-CFL players have as well, even between CFL stints. This isn’t treading on new territory. -
Competition in the form of another person having a bonfire fueled by cash.

Rose had a pretty strong hype train for the NFL draft a few years ago after his sophomore year and hasn’t been healthy since.

I think loading up on pass rush/DL and starting two NI’s in the secondary is a great strategy. Don’t even have to be pricey NI’s. Anyone playing field corner is giving a 15 yard cushion, just need someone who can play the ball a little and tackle. -
Jennings big struggle has been accuracy. Pipkin and Manziel are different versions of the same QB, run and chuck.
-
Missed week 1 payroll...that’s all-time bad. Didn’t even start the season with operating capital for one week.
-
They are all rotational on the DL. Roh and Jeffcoat are very versatile too, can do everything from drop in coverage to play 3 technique. Having those guys is very purposeful.
-
The quarterbacking in this league is just brutal. If they are going to skew the rules one way they need to skew them to offense. If I'm a receiver I'm signing with the CFL over this crap. CFL sends a lot of receivers to the NFL, this league the QB's are so brutal you aren't getting a chance to make plays.

Pad level sucks though. He's basically standing straight up at all times. Pro level OL will just knock him on his can if he can't beat them around the edge.
-
He didn't do much with the targets he did get and had a couple games with multiple drops. He played his way out of the offense after getting a pretty good shot in the late summer. Wolitarsky is going to be a star for us this year. Would not be surprised to see him put up 90+ catches and 1200 yards.

Fogg is all you want from a DB nowadays, turns the ball over. Interesting to see the DB market this year, everyone getting paid but them. I like that the Bombers shifted the money to pass rush and away from the secondary. Anyone who can cover is just going to draw endless flags.
-
If the alternative is Toronto and he has an agent with half a brain I think it's possible. The past couple seasons the living situation for Argos players has been difficult. Walker would take home a lot more money here or Regina.
-
Basically the entire offense is back. We have a bunch of young Canadians at receiver who took a step last year and will take another one. I'm sure they'll add a couple imports. Don't fret about interior OL. This is year 2 of all-in.

When was Sask ever a premier free agent destination? Cannot recall in my lifetime a player the caliber of BLM or Reilly signing there. They’ve always been picking QB’s from the middle tier and below.
-
Ackie has safety experience too. He’d be one of the better fits for the multiple D Hall runs.
-
I don’t think we necessarily need a free agent WIL, but there’s a lot of second-tier free agents that would fit good here at DT and WIL.

The draft.

Two birds stoned at once.

That’s three times the average salary, potentially a bit less depending on where the cap ends up. Maybe if he played tackle. There’s lots of guys who can play interior. Once you start paying a bunch of guys those kinds of numbers your depth takes a huuuge hit and if that guy tears a bicep in TC you can’t replace him even with his salary not counting on the cap because you still have to pay him. You can basically have a QB and 2-3 guys paid at that level. Chungh is a good guard but he’d have to be 100% perfect guard to command that money. Our guys are Bighill, Harris, Bryant, maybe one more.
-
Look at the rest of their OL. They have money.
-
Alexander can play anywhere and I wouldn't be shocked if he replaces Randle on the boundary.
-
4 picks in first 23. We've had decent luck in the middle rounds too. Hamilton has 5 picks in the first 22. BC doesn't pick until 24th.

If you ever wanted to know if tampering was alive and well, just look at all the signings the day or two before free agency opens. The agents know exactly what each player is going to get offered when the gun goes off. -
Sorry, that was for all picks. We'll probably have at least 3 on our roster.
-
Need about 2 receivers, a DT and 3 DB's with CFL experience IMO to start with. I expect they will add an experienced OL as well to compete for an interior spot or 6th role. Assuming no moves are made involving the Bombers vets under contract, a pretty safe assumption, the Bombers have about $1.5 million in wiggle room to add in free agency, assuming signing two first round picks (likely to cost $250,000-$300,000).
