Around the League: 2019 Off Season
JuranBoldenRules replied to SpeedFlex27's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The comparison was Yao Ming and the NBA with China. Yao Ming was a celebrity before he was drafted by the NBA and was also a good enough player to be the #1 overall pick among all basketball players in his draft year. Apples and oranges. Maybe they should have a draft of famous soccer players and see if any of them will try to make a CFL team as a kicker. That’s more likely to get the sideshow attention. -

Perception is very important and eventually costs dollars. Here’s another aspect. The league just forced teams to cap their spending on football operations. There is no CBA. It’s a league with limited resources, yet the commissioner and some of the scarce league office staff have time to grab ass with Mexican football and now German football? Actual attendance at games in BC, Toronto and Montreal isn’t even hitting 5 digits. Look at the officiating, which is another area that needs resources. If it’s minus 30 and you don’t have a front door you don’t start drywalling the basement...you get a door and hang it! If you were a conspiracy theorist you might think the league is actually looking for a source replacement players to hang over the CBA talks. That actually makes way more sense than thinking there’s any revenue to gain from Mexican television. -

I’m considering taking a sick day to watch the Mexican Draft. Riveting. -

Our 2007 Grey Cup QB's are all high level coaches. Dinwiddie in the CFL, Kingsbury already been head coach in NCAA and now NFL, Zac Taylor has been an OC and QB coach in the NCAA and NFL and was interviewed for NFL head coaching jobs this year. -

Gordon can’t play in the CFL unless he is reinstated by the NFL...so basically no chance he ends up in Canada. -

There are usually 2 coaches who get paid on U Sports staffs. The rest of the guys work a full-time job and then come on campus and coach at night. I know a few guys who have been doing that for decades. -

If keeping him wasn’t worth 10% of his salary he clearly wasn’t wanted. -
In a defense designed to generate turnovers Fogg year after year is among the best at generating turnovers. Fogg would be a great replacement for Loffler. To me Alexander, Fogg, Gaitor, Sayles are a pretty good core of a secondary. The way those four play you can slot them in anywhere. Randle is declining but if he takes a paycut I'd keep him around.
-
Corney is the name you pick out of that list? LMFAO. Alexander, Fogg, Jeffcoat, Medlock and Nevis are absolutely huge ones. I’ve made peace that Bighill and Chungs are extremely likely to be headed home.
-
The good ones cost the same. Someone like Stanley Bryant wouldn’t cost any more at his peak if he’s Canadian, he’d just have a longer career because he’s Canadian and harder to replace. The mediocre Canadian guys who can stick on rosters are the guys who are overpaid.

That's the hill Ambrosie is going to die on if the players don't sign the CBA fast. Teams will start working around his decree, the BOG will lose confidence in him and he'll quietly be pushed out like Orridge. Heard from a friend that does legal work locally for a player agent that lots of jokes being made at Ambrosie's expense during Grey Cup week and level of respect for him dropping rapidly. Comparisons of Ambrosie to Trump in terms of ignorance and another joke about the irony of him being the guy having to deny the link between football and CTE. -
Dickenson made sure to get that cowboy hat on quick so everyone knew for sure he's a ****** from Calgary.
-
No TD's in the 2nd half.
-
Harris trying for 6 INT's this week.
-
Ellingson and Sinopoli both with big drops in this game, Ellingson with a couple.
-
Hard to believe BLM could play in the NFL tbh. When he stays in the pocket he doesn't move off his first read. He's lucky all his receivers are 6'5. He's a decent scrambler, you almost want to get him out of the pocket to keep him from just chucking the ball. Easy TD on that last 2nd down if he works through is progressions but he's dead set on that outside shoulder corner route which is a tough catch for the receiver.
-
Disagree. Bombers weren't down 2 possessions until the very end.
-
If they go to all teams in a league, no divisions, we'll be talking about streaks of how long an Eastern team hasn't made the Grey Cup or hosted a playoff game. That'll be good for the league.
-
Just getting the guys prepped for playing on Mexican turf.
-
And he's not a guy who is going to age well with his previous knee and hip issues. He clearly has lost at least a step in coverage from 2016 to now. That's not going to get better. He had loads of games this season where he didn't make a single positive play and barely even registered on the stat sheet. His play picked up in the last third of the season, but he's not generating turnovers (FF and INT) like he did as a rookie. We have a lot of opportunity to add Canadians (4th and 5th overall picks) and we have a few on our roster who will be developing and working into roles I'd assume (Gray, Petermann, Simonise). I'm not worried about losing Loffler, but of course I would have benched him in July and gone all import on D.
-
Ambrosie is going to do himself in rapidly. The league is in a lot of trouble with basic issues and he’s trying to play games in Mexico.
-
There’s a bunch. Corney would have to actually be able to play football for us to know how good he is.
-
There’s a whole offseason to play out and a strong likelihood many of the players you mentioned won’t be Bombers next season. My thought is that I would retain Loffler into low six figures, Max $130,000. Even that’s kind of high for the entirety of what he provided the past two seasons, in more than half our games he was a non-factor and not in a good way. The alternatives are going all import on D or using one or more of our early picks (we have a pick in each round and BC’s first rounder) to add some guys who could be role players on D, likely in the secondary or DL rotation. We could also add guys who can be role players on O, go to starting 3 NI receivers or 4 NI OL. Starting 4 NI playmakers on O leaves us thin, especially if Harris had a long term injury. There are players in the draft and free agency that could provide better value to our overall roster than Loffler does if his ask creeps above something reasonable. We also have good NI depth without him on our current roster.
-
I think we'll have better options than Augustine in the draft and free agency. He's extremely one-dimensional.
-
They don't need Demski. There's Petermann, Simonise, other free agents and all their draft picks with an extra first rounder. I think Demski only comes back if he takes a pay cut.
