Help us Chris Streveler, You're our Only Hope
JuranBoldenRules replied to Atomic's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I'm pretty much down with getting the ball in his hands in any manner possible with a head of steam and some blocking, same with Harris, Dressler, or really anyone who is smart behind blocking, agile and elusive. That's how you build an offense that is difficult to defend when you don't have a Mike Reilly at QB, and we don't have that even when Nichols is healthy. -

And Chris Streveler is going to throw 54 touchdown passes. Mike Reilly is going to throw for 7200 yards but only 18 TD's, 36 TD's rushing. Kevin Fogg is going to have 2000 missed FG return yards. Charleston Hughes is going to have 54 sacks. James Wilder is going to have 80 carries and Adarius Bowman is going to have 0 catches! -

Why not 6' and 220 lbs Nic Demski? -

Demski is a tailback. Moving to receiver is the conversion, he's fine to run the ball. -
I vehemently disagree. Jeffcoat and Roh were in the backfield all night, Jeffcoat especially was eating the Eskimo tackles alive. Okpalaugo had a couple hurries. Nevis was dominant. Corney played well off the edge when he came in. There is a big continued issue with discipline that is costing us sacks, guys not staying in their rush lanes and over pursuing. The main culprits are JSK and Poop. Poop is very inconsistent and started losing reps to Thomas again. If he plays like he did Thursday for a couple more games I think we'll see Bryant. The blitzing linebackers through the middle every passing down just becomes predictable. They need to switch that up and have someone spy the QB to clean up when a guy like Reilly moves around the pocket and sometimes out of it when pressure comes. The biggest issue I see with this defense is how they use the safety position, and maybe what Loffler's abilities are in coverage. It's hard to tell between the two what the issue is. There's not a lot of support at the top of routes for our DB's. You get into a position where they get isolated a lot downfield and you end up with PI's or big plays. I mean they could make 2/3 plays but that 1 is still a 40+ yard gain because of the heavy amount of cover 0/1 we play with LB's always blitzing on passing downs, Loffler blitzing a lot and being asked to cover the whole field in cover 1. The aggressiveness of the blitzing isn't resulting in the big plays for the D often enough to make up for the big plays they give up. There needs to be a balance there and some deception so the QB can't count our LB's as rushers or guys in coverage with certainty every down.

TO @ SSK - East Final Rematch + QB Mystery Afoot

Did they not give Ray any reps in camp either? His passes were terrible. All of his recievers had drops, he was throwing ducks all night. Franklin might get a shot sooner than later. -

Wilder sure isn't too involved for the Argos. Trestman trying to shut down the hype? -

A 45 yard pass across the field for a potential one yard gain to the tight end....great read Zach. -

Henry is so dirty. Just headbutted Wilder helmet to helmet on the turf. No call. -

And basically punching Ronnie Yell in the face as he makes his break on his 2nd catch. Collaros is a mess so far. -

They didn’t need to stop the clock. Clock stops after every play inside 3 minute warning until the 20 second clock starts. Would have been more advantageous to keep the clock moving as much as possible and either kick to win with no time left or get to OT and take your chances. -

Field was a puddle. -
I think that had more to do with the field basically being a big puddle at that point, going for 2.

Well I think it’s time we play coverages with more safety support and stop sending LB/Loffler blitzes every passing down in such a predictable fashion. The Eskimos were laughing at our blitzes by the 2nd half. Loffler in coverage was a huge liability in this game, total non-factor. Better as a blitzer but we need an actual safety otherwise it’ll be another year of getting torched by Eskimos, Stampeders, Lions Ticats and Argos. -

500 yards of offense to 300. We dominated field position for long stretch in first half and struggled to get first downs. Came out of that rut and then couldn’t get more than a first down in the 4th quarter to close. You can’t sit on a lead against a dynamic offense like Edmonton. Maybe against Montreal or BC. -

Both coordinators need to think about their instincts...and do the opposite at least half the time. If Richie is itching to send both backers on a blitz, maybe drop 8-9 into coverage. If Lapo wants to run empty backfield on 1st and 10 maybe toss out a tight end and Harris next to the QB. -

Consistency is lacking on both sides of the ball and that’s beyond any QB issue. -

Lapo runs too much empty backfield with any QB, but it’s worse with a rookie. Why show yourself to be one dimensional? So much easier to defend. Some of his play designs incorporate amazing misdirection that opens up big plays, think the one up the seam to Dressler, but then we can go a whole quarter without seeing any of that and watching our offense go 2 and out repeatedly. -

That offensive performance was not very good. D didn’t make a play for a very long stretch, but on the whole did a good job getting off the field when the offense was inconsistent as we knew it would be given the QB situation. Blitzing Bighill and Loffler/JSK on almost every 2nd and medium/long was way too obvious, especially when they line up on the line most of the time too. Leave way too much of the middle open for Reilly. Pass rush was good in general, lots of holds, run game a non factor. Streveler was alright but they need to get a little more creative and make the run more of a factor. Teams are going to be scheming against what they saw. Some good misdirection tonight but lacking that consistent run game. Hated the play calling on the last drive, over a minute, just need a FG attempt, no need to rest the game on Streveler’s arm and reads. Plenty of time under 3 to run and gain first downs, set up that kick or at least bleed the clock. -

I wondered when I first saw the roster if they might dress 7 OL with Foketi and run some double TE sets with both him and Couture, sit Bryant and Lankford. Guess it depends how crazy they want to go with option stuff. Jake Thomas has also played some tight end in the past.
