Guys I'm watching closely today in 1 on 1's: Jackson Bennett DB Ottawa...guy is a freaking beast. Seen him play enough to know he's going to play in the CFL, just trying to figure out his ceiling. Dagogo Maxwell DB UBC...physical testing amazing, always has been, on-field hasn't matched. Godfrey Onyeka DB Laurier...WIL body, moves like a DB. Bo Banner DE Central Washington...in a class by himself among DE's in this combine physically. Want to see how he matches up to the OL here. Micah Teitz LB Calgary...real impressed with his testing, overshadowed in Calgary over the years. The receivers vs DB's in general is going to be great. There's not a lot of separation in that group in testing.

Receiver/DB 1 on 1's will be real good in this one.
-
Real good group of DB's in this draft...some will likely end up as LB's, but real athletic.
-
Atlee Simon looks so weird running the 40, like he's running half speed. Runs real upright with and without the ball.

The context was cutting a guy like Flanders to make cap space for Muamba. I disagree on Lafrance. Demski maybe could play Flanders role. Lafrance is nowhere near as dynamic. Honestly have no idea of how he'd play the receiver side of that role. I've watched him play and coached against him since he was 14 and have never seen him run routes as a receiver. Lafrance really gives the Bombers a backup for Harris that won't completely throw the gameplan out the window and a guy who is still a really solid special teamer.

And it shouldn't be too hard to have 2 Canadians on the field on D with the depth of decent players we have, plus anyone added in the draft. That's all it is. They don't have to designate certain positions as Canadian. For ultimate flexibility, 5 on O and 2 on D looks best to me with an extra Canadian used on O quite often. -
To me with the way free agency is (no restricted free agency) every draft pick is 2-3 years with their original team at best whether they are hitting CFL free agency or heading south. The draft is getting less and less important as free agency becomes crazier.

Lafrance basically replaces Normand on the roster and allows them to use more packages involving guys like Flanders. You don't really save a whole lot of cap space by cutting a running back to sign a linebacker because you still have to replace the running back on the roster. Say you cut Flanders and replace him with a rookie receiver or running back on the 44 man roster, you maybe save $20,000.

If Simonise actually fell out of the top 5 picks I hope it’s the Bombers who are the team smart enough to give him a shot. The guy has it all and is a player too. He’s done with the NFL until he does something up here so it’s a perfect scenario to grab a guy with that talent IMO.

And on top of it essentially fine the ignorant (if we take them at their word) Lions $70,000 in cap space. -

Absurd the Lions are on the hook for the cap hit on that bonus. Understand that they’d have to try to recover the actual money through the courts, but the cap piece makes no sense in this scenario. -
Jayden McKoy should be there easily. I'm not too sure about Daley and Ritchott on the combine roster as both have spent time on CFL PR's and aren't draft eligible as far as I know.
-
One guy to watch who hasn’t made any lists is Bo Banner from Central Washington. GNAC defensive player of the year, pass rushing defensive end. Will probably be at regional combine. I’m sure Rigmalden knows all about him.

Ambrosie doesn’t have the authority to grant a franchise. This rumoured announcement is some media hack trying to break a story with no knowledge of the CFL.

Taylor Reed sucks and he’s definitely not worth 6 figures. I’d take JSK over him. If JSK starts 18 games he gets 100 tackles and 5-6 sacks, 2-3 picks a bunch of forced fumbles and recoveries, from either the middle or WIL. He’s all over the field. The only CFL vet MLB left worth paying for is Muamba and that’s mostly for ratio purposes, because he was pretty bad for most of last season. Whoever signs him is hoping he works his ass off to drop about 25 pounds and regain his previous speed. -
Missed JFG news, thanks. Flanders might be DI too.

All guys that have missed many games due to injury. See who’s still healthy by game 1. -
Roh is a player. Very similar to Jeffcoat IMO as a versatile guy who isn’t pure pass rush either. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do DI a DL for many games this season. I believe the Bombers will be signing/drafting another NI receiver (could be JFG if he wants to play for cheap) who will be on the roster and a fullback/tight end type. That Lankford DI spot should be gone if everything works out with Demski and the rest of the NIs on offense. DI’s will be Medlock, a DB (likely Fogg) and a DL or LB.
-
Which is kind of like making a budget by saying "that guy won the 50/50 and got $40,000, I'll buy a ticket and it'll happen to me too." All I'm saying is that relying on a guy coming off an injury like an achilles or ACL is dangerous and clearly the Bombers have already built contingency for that with Fenner and the rookie DB's from last year plus Gaitor/Clarke being added to Fogg, Randle, Loffler.
-
Didn't play a game. Said would have been ready for potentially West Final or Grey Cup.
-
Anything ahead of a calendar year is ahead of schedule for an Achilles. That puts Leggett at October for a return. If he’s back before that we are lucky and as you say it often takes another year on top of that for the player to be anywhere near 100%.
-
Because Dressler is still a way better player?
-
When they scheduled the media availability Muamba wasn’t available. Probably just general free agency presser.

O'Day probably spent too much of his formative time as a CFL AGM with Taman. Bet they have a bunch of money deferred into this season from the big signings they had in 16 and 17. That plus adding money at QB and DL has them in trouble. -

So basically chose Messam over Muamba...very interesting.
