  1. Well everyone in the front is in responsible for a gap but the "LB's" need to read run vs pass and pick in their zone/man too. The whole D does that and that's where guys like Heath and Randle have been getting burned worrying about coming up to run support/keep contain. Our MLB blitzes often but is also often in man coverage and zone coverage. When a DL drops out they usually are just dropping to a spot. I've only seen longer highlight tapes of Mulumba from his junior and senior year at EMU but vast majority of plays on those tapes (YouTube) he's in a 3 or 4 point rush stance and coming up field. If we have any DL I'd have some confidence in to move to LB it's Jeffcoat.
  2. Thomas wasn't anywhere near 80% of snaps. Closer to half. Jeffcoat and Okpalaugo took more reps. Only guy who played almost every down was Nevis, only came out for one package on 2nd and extremes plus one entire series where they went 4 DE's. They are all playing bad. Maybe Westerman needs to take a couple 15s to get his mojo back.
  3. A guy who has never played off the line of scrimmage at a higher level is going to have a hell of a time with reads and footwork off of it IMO, in a league where 75-80% of the plays are passing. It would be a project. Why don't we put Westerman at MLB?
  4. Don't get hung up on the 8 NIs "starting" on paper. That's all it is. Gives flexibility to move NI slots to either side of the ball in case of injury, otherwise you are stuck with where you started the 7.
  5. The hold was crucial to Jackson having that seam to even hit, it was right where he cut upfield. They have to call that.
  6. Too bad Maas wasted his challenge. Clear PI on that pick by Singleton on Zylstra.
  7. Reilly has no accuracy. If the prayers aren't answered their offence bogs down quick.
  8. TSN showed the stats in broadcast on targets/touches and they are all over twitter if you look. CFL stat sheet will be out Tuesday or Wednesday.
  9. He's from Montreal and they need Canadians bad. We don't really have a roster spot/cap space for him and would probably gladly take a draft pick or two and a neg lister perhaps.
  10. Disagree. Maybe the fan base has that mindset. Just because O'Shea didn't go on suicide watch doesn't mean they quit. They can't be devastated by a loss in a 18 game season. They are back to work today.
  11. That's probably the most frustrating thing about this roster. There are Americans on our team who completely don't belong on a CFL roster, even after a few years, like Knox, Lankford. These guys should be interchangeable, you shouldn't need more than a season or even a few games to figure out how to play WIL at a decent level and not screw up in basic ways. If someone is still making these mistakes after two games you run the next guy in there. Knox is done. As for Lankford, he's great at taking kickoffs from the goaline to the 25 and out of bounds. We need better and it's a joke that he's taking regular snaps at receiver. Thorpe, Washington, probably most of the NIs we have kicking around and about 5000 wannabe pros in the US could fill that role and be more productive. Time to say sayonara.
  12. Have a weird feeling we'll be trading him to Montreal in the next two weeks.
  13. Other than the 25 targets to Harris and the 10 to Flanders.... You can't avoid throwing at a halfback. Get real.
  14. Crazy trade proposal: To WPG: Dean Lawrence Washington Conditional Pick 2019 on Neufeld re-signing To HAM: Neufeld Okpalaugo
  15. Sask rushed 3 and dropped 9 lots. Needed to run more to churn 5-6-7 on most first downs and take some deep shots on some combo routes to isolate DB's. Nichols had good time. Lapo's gameplan sucked.
  16. What would they do if the Bombers put Medlock in at safety and had him drop on the field like he was shot as soon as the Riders lined up to snap the ball?
  17. Exactly, there are rules and the refs have discretion around unsportsmanlike and objectionable conduct. They don't have any balls however.
  18. Well unless a guy is having a heart attack or seizure it almost never happens that someone goes down when play has been whistled in and subs completed. Blatant attempt to circumvent the rules around hurry-up offenses.
  19. Wouldn't need another starting NI. Would need an import to play safety and honestly safety in the D schemes nowadays is basically another half with an extra read on some downs, most of the time where they are going is prescribed by the play call. I don't doubt that we could fill that role fairly easily with Alexander who is comfortable being up in the box when needed too.
  20. All fits together. All works for or against each other. None of it worked tonight.
  21. More than 2/3 of passing yards when trailing 3 scores or more.
  22. Yet we start at the 40 yard line and kick a FG.
  23. Well 2 TDs tonight were on 1st and goal situations that the D walked into from a big return and a brutal INT. If we're looking at a D in terms of points given up, they don't look nearly as bad as if you look at yards. I think you could start a What to Do About the O thread too because they've been horribly inconsistent and comatose for long stretches of many games which has a pretty negative effect on the whole team. This D isn't built to carry the team like say our 2011 one was.
  24. It's like free training for the CFL. The Americans are meh, missing the Canadians hurts a bit but less when it's guys that are rookies anyway. If they are smart they won't sit on PR's too long because Gray would make the same or more up here even as a rook.
  25. Disagree on Loffler. He spends a lot of time in man coverage or in match zones where he ends up in man coverage. He likes to play closer to the line and is a ball chasing kind of player. He doesn't spend a lot of time between the tackles, he comes into the box sometimes, but he makes a lot of bad decisions on ball carriers and coverages.
