  1. Wasn't comparing players directly, was responding to the idea that picking a receiver #1 is dumb. There hasn't been anyone remotely as polished as Vandevoort in a draft since Fantuz. Not just athletically, but as a receiver. The only guys near them would be Coehoorn, and maybe Shawn Gore. The rest in that time in terms of good receiver prospects have been just athletes that teams would have to teach how to play, basically like how a Simonise or Auclair would be in this draft. Vandevoort will be one of the top NI receivers as a rookie.
  2. Which Arena League team do you cheer for?
  3. It's been that way because we've had limited (the good ones) and pretty brutal players in that spot. If we had a Fantuz or Sinopoli they wouldn't be playing field WR and running decoy.
  4. There's a pretty solid group of decent OL, nothing too special, in this draft. Unless someone really separates from the pack there's no reason to pick a OL out of desperation, even with either of the 1st rounders. Draft the best football player available and you'll be fine. Have to guard against the NFL stuff, but otherwise BPA.
  5. I don't see why the player would even want that. The teams would sign guys for 10 years. Doesn't matter to them they can get out from under that whenever, the players can't and have no security either.
  6. Why? Would Andy Fantuz have been the worst #1 pick too? Vandevoort is one of the top prospects at his position this decade. Obviously that only counts for so much but your post is pretty damn ignorant.
  7. I don't think it's any riskier than drafting any other position. The only riskier position might be QB. Draft the best player.
  8. That rule is legitimately crazy. The likelihood of Simonise serving that NFL suspension is low. Would that mean he'd never be eligible to play in he CFL since he can't be signed while under NFL suspension? Man this league is a mess on the PED issue.
  9. Because of the overreaction in the aftermath. Should just suspend him and let teams decide if they want him with the 4 games looming.
  10. Dumb dumb rule on the doping and draft. Players should stand in the draft with a penalty determined by the league. They could even just enforce the NFL suspension.
  11. Point is that they obviously didn't think enough of him to have him on the active roster at the end of the season so why fret about it? If they wanted him he'd still be a Bomber.
  12. The practice roster guys don't have actual contracts. It's like a week to week lease on a player. If teams want a guy they can sign him and then he's protected. Maybe the Bombers didn't care about Bennett?
  13. Manziel has put himself years behind in actual development with his antics and leaving school early. I can't see him being a reasonable option for any pro football team playing outside of an arena for a couple years at least. It's all media hype. Plus he's pretty much the ultimate scrambling QB which literally hasn't worked in pro football for 20 years. If you can't throw from the pocket you are in big trouble regardless of how fast or evasive you are against modern defences.
  14. He still choked in big games with Trestman. Once the Riders choked more. Trestman won't get a QB with that level of talent and experience. Ray's arm is shot. He'll have to develop someone and he has no track record of doing that in the Canadian game. In fact he's happy to tell everyone that he's not about developing QB's because the starter gets all the reps and attention. I think the Argos and Riders will be scrapping over Reilly next off-season and whoever doesn't get him will be absolutely screwed for a couple years at least.
  15. You can't argue Trestman rode Calvillo? He didn't develop a single useful QB. Based on what Ray and Willu have done lately they are going to have to develop someone fairly soon.
  16. We need more help at receiver currently but it doesn't matter anyway. Take the best players. You need to play about 10-12 all over the place.
  17. You just got weird in your first paragraph. All of that is basically irrelevant to football skills.
  18. That wasn't even a problem last year. Anyone that ran did so at will on that crew. Whether they were 160 lb backs or 260 lb backs. They need to tackle everyone better. They need to complete their assignments and cancel gaps. Putting a heavy guy at MLB who has no skills tackling in space with the ball carrier coming downhill or no knowledge of playing gap control from that spot won't make a lick of difference.
  19. No kidding. Skill is what matters. If the guy is good at pass rushing let's ask him to lose 15 pounds and play MLB. That logic makes a ton of sense.
  20. Tate basically said he didn't want to be a starter the last time he was a free agent. I'm surprised anyone would even trade a 5th for him.
  21. People get so weird with the height and weight stuff. Good lord.
  22. Thomas was taking reps from Shologan last year and there's opportunities for Canadians throughout the defence to take snaps in different packages to balance the ratio. It doesn't just have to be at DT, it has to be 3 guys on the field at all times on D. It's also February and we're talking about a team with 3 high picks.
  23. Wild had a rough year too. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up losing his spot too. Could end up being a DI, kinda Burnett's role.
  24. And in the end, Glenn was a free agent with free will. Third-string in Winnipeg or starter in Saskatchewan. Do people want Walters to tell Glenn he'd get to compete to start here? I don't get what the expectation is. It's real life with real people. Not a video game.
  25. You've watched detailed film on our LB prospects? If not don't make things up about "style of player." We don't know. We can't say. Wait and see. I do know that Bass was on the wrong shoulder a lot of the time and gave up a lot of yards because of it despite his athleticism. I watched him play for 2 seasons. He struggled to make plays coming to the LOS and relied a lot on his feet to make up for bad reads/positioning.
