Free Agency Performance: GM Walters
JuranBoldenRules replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Shologan is garbage and was garbage. Anyone fretting about losing our DT's and a couple LB's from last year should watch what happened anytime an opposing team started running the ball us. Stats are basically meaningless for DT's. If a guy gets a sack every other game he has 9 and that looks great but if he gets washed out of his gap every other play (25 plays a game) you can't find that on cfl.ca. -

To be determined. All the vets signed are of the whiniest, malcontentiest variety. If they don't have the role they want, they will be problems. The rest outside of Roosevelt showed flashes but couldn't stay on the field or were inconsistent. -

They basically signed the best rush end and DT available on the market. This thread is absurd. -

Why are they "projects?" There's a handful of DL and LB in this draft that could likely fill a need for us. And guys like Waggoner, Hurl, Jones who can play a role. I think the Bombers are in one hell of a good position to add to their Canadian crew which is already relatively strong. There's also a dozen American guys you've never heard of who are going to come in and compete for jobs. They might even be better than Cash or Laing. I don't think the Bombers are in a position to need to pay the premium on those guys. -

I'm really interested to see what Lefevour can do with Lapo. Lapo has coveted a guy with his skill set in terms of mobility, and he can actually pass a bit. Like a rich man's Brink/Goltz. If he can stay healthy I think Lefevour can be a decent option as a CFL QB, an average starter with some above average moments. Real good guy to have around IMO. -

Saskatchewan's receivers are getting a bit overrated IMO. Calgary, Edmonton and BC have repeatedly year after year found guys to augment their core group. They are the top 3 IMO at that position. -

Not sure why Laing is so coveted personally. Clearly the CFL teams aren't beating down his doors with offers that are that great. In the end Thomas won't be playing more than he ever has. You'll have a rotation of a few Canadians on D to make the ratio work along with the spots that are every down, and depending on the draft those reps could be shared more between DL or LB or dime. -

Dyakowski had a really bad knee injury in the 2013 Grey Cup and has never been close to good since then. He'd be a good fit with the Riders pending retirement NI squad. Labatte, Best, Brouillette, Bagg, Gaydosh. -
I think the Bombers are going to wait out the market and probably scoop one of the veteran WIL/MLB types at a pretty good bargain to compete with the rookies in camp. Same goes for the NI DL and special teamers.

Good for Lafrance. Better save that money. Jones and Murphy aren't very patient.

Shologan has never been even close to great. He's had a few years with decent sack totals when he's played in great DL's, but always a guy who's struggled physically and got chewed up vs the run. -
Wouldn't that make the higher picks more valuable relatively? I think they were just that desperate, and that's kind of confirmed considering both of the guys who made those deals are unemployed.

Bombers Off-Season Transactions

Worst part of that Wiecek barf fest was the "they released Glenn for cap space" angle. Glenn wasn't signed for 2017. Wiecek doesn't seem to get the concept of free agency. Why would Glenn sign here when he's the probable starter in Regina? -

Given how many games import recievers missed starting with some depth wouldn't be bad. Stafford needs to earn a job too. -

Yep...don't think they can keep all those receivers if that's the going rate. Jacksons gotta be worth that too. -
In some ways it isn't too bad. The well-known guys are...well-known and they've been doing combines with lots of eyes and info for 2 years. This will give teams a chance to see guys who are a little more distant in the radar and find some players.

And Reggie Slack was a freaking tank. Cato is tiny. -
A centre ice faceoff dropped by a referee who does about 6 per game. It's a scramble. O zone and D zone faceoffs involve skill.

Control. Having the chance to outright win or at least put it on the other team to need a field goal to tie. Doesn't change the probabilities or fact that both teams have a shot. The probability of the team receiving the kickoff scoring the TD to win is only slightly higher than the team kicking off. Not enough for the team kicking off to get their collective undies in a bunch and complain about it being unfair. Sort of like the 54-46 probability in baseball for last at-bat. Good luck finding a system that's completely 50-50 with no slight advantages.

Playoff football goes until someone scores too. Could be 3 quarters. There's a coin toss before the third quarter again though....rats!
-
Oh I'd want the ball. I wouldn't use it as an excuse if I didn't get it first and lost though. That's BS. Starting on D you still have as much of a chance to win, even a mild advantage in that you don't need a TD to win if you can get a stop/turnover and the other guys do. It goes both ways. You need to play the game out.
-
Except the defence can score in football. You are describing baseball. Hell Atlanta scored a defensive TD in that game. Once one team has the puck in hockey the other team usually has to make several plays to generate a scoring chance. Same in football with the exception being a pick six or a breakaway. First score wins.
-
One team could win the draw and score in hockey just the same without the other team getting a shot at "offense." Happening quite a bit with 3 on 3.
