  1. Point is that they obviously didn't think enough of him to have him on the active roster at the end of the season so why fret about it? If they wanted him he'd still be a Bomber.
  2. The practice roster guys don't have actual contracts. It's like a week to week lease on a player. If teams want a guy they can sign him and then he's protected. Maybe the Bombers didn't care about Bennett?
  3. Manziel has put himself years behind in actual development with his antics and leaving school early. I can't see him being a reasonable option for any pro football team playing outside of an arena for a couple years at least. It's all media hype. Plus he's pretty much the ultimate scrambling QB which literally hasn't worked in pro football for 20 years. If you can't throw from the pocket you are in big trouble regardless of how fast or evasive you are against modern defences.
  4. He still choked in big games with Trestman. Once the Riders choked more. Trestman won't get a QB with that level of talent and experience. Ray's arm is shot. He'll have to develop someone and he has no track record of doing that in the Canadian game. In fact he's happy to tell everyone that he's not about developing QB's because the starter gets all the reps and attention. I think the Argos and Riders will be scrapping over Reilly next off-season and whoever doesn't get him will be absolutely screwed for a couple years at least.
  5. You can't argue Trestman rode Calvillo? He didn't develop a single useful QB. Based on what Ray and Willu have done lately they are going to have to develop someone fairly soon.
  6. We need more help at receiver currently but it doesn't matter anyway. Take the best players. You need to play about 10-12 all over the place.
  7. You just got weird in your first paragraph. All of that is basically irrelevant to football skills.
  8. That wasn't even a problem last year. Anyone that ran did so at will on that crew. Whether they were 160 lb backs or 260 lb backs. They need to tackle everyone better. They need to complete their assignments and cancel gaps. Putting a heavy guy at MLB who has no skills tackling in space with the ball carrier coming downhill or no knowledge of playing gap control from that spot won't make a lick of difference.
  9. No kidding. Skill is what matters. If the guy is good at pass rushing let's ask him to lose 15 pounds and play MLB. That logic makes a ton of sense.
  10. Tate basically said he didn't want to be a starter the last time he was a free agent. I'm surprised anyone would even trade a 5th for him.
  11. People get so weird with the height and weight stuff. Good lord.
  12. Thomas was taking reps from Shologan last year and there's opportunities for Canadians throughout the defence to take snaps in different packages to balance the ratio. It doesn't just have to be at DT, it has to be 3 guys on the field at all times on D. It's also February and we're talking about a team with 3 high picks.
  13. Wild had a rough year too. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up losing his spot too. Could end up being a DI, kinda Burnett's role.
  14. And in the end, Glenn was a free agent with free will. Third-string in Winnipeg or starter in Saskatchewan. Do people want Walters to tell Glenn he'd get to compete to start here? I don't get what the expectation is. It's real life with real people. Not a video game.
  15. You've watched detailed film on our LB prospects? If not don't make things up about "style of player." We don't know. We can't say. Wait and see. I do know that Bass was on the wrong shoulder a lot of the time and gave up a lot of yards because of it despite his athleticism. I watched him play for 2 seasons. He struggled to make plays coming to the LOS and relied a lot on his feet to make up for bad reads/positioning.
  16. Shologan is garbage and was garbage. Anyone fretting about losing our DT's and a couple LB's from last year should watch what happened anytime an opposing team started running the ball us. Stats are basically meaningless for DT's. If a guy gets a sack every other game he has 9 and that looks great but if he gets washed out of his gap every other play (25 plays a game) you can't find that on cfl.ca.
  17. To be determined. All the vets signed are of the whiniest, malcontentiest variety. If they don't have the role they want, they will be problems. The rest outside of Roosevelt showed flashes but couldn't stay on the field or were inconsistent.
  18. They basically signed the best rush end and DT available on the market. This thread is absurd.
  19. Why are they "projects?" There's a handful of DL and LB in this draft that could likely fill a need for us. And guys like Waggoner, Hurl, Jones who can play a role. I think the Bombers are in one hell of a good position to add to their Canadian crew which is already relatively strong. There's also a dozen American guys you've never heard of who are going to come in and compete for jobs. They might even be better than Cash or Laing. I don't think the Bombers are in a position to need to pay the premium on those guys.
  20. I'm really interested to see what Lefevour can do with Lapo. Lapo has coveted a guy with his skill set in terms of mobility, and he can actually pass a bit. Like a rich man's Brink/Goltz. If he can stay healthy I think Lefevour can be a decent option as a CFL QB, an average starter with some above average moments. Real good guy to have around IMO.
  21. Saskatchewan's receivers are getting a bit overrated IMO. Calgary, Edmonton and BC have repeatedly year after year found guys to augment their core group. They are the top 3 IMO at that position.
  22. Not sure why Laing is so coveted personally. Clearly the CFL teams aren't beating down his doors with offers that are that great. In the end Thomas won't be playing more than he ever has. You'll have a rotation of a few Canadians on D to make the ratio work along with the spots that are every down, and depending on the draft those reps could be shared more between DL or LB or dime.
  23. Dyakowski had a really bad knee injury in the 2013 Grey Cup and has never been close to good since then. He'd be a good fit with the Riders pending retirement NI squad. Labatte, Best, Brouillette, Bagg, Gaydosh.
  24. I think the Bombers are going to wait out the market and probably scoop one of the veteran WIL/MLB types at a pretty good bargain to compete with the rookies in camp. Same goes for the NI DL and special teamers.
  25. Good for Lafrance. Better save that money. Jones and Murphy aren't very patient.
