  1. They don't owe Glenn anything against the cap. They don't save anything. He's a free agent in a month regardless so how does that affect their 2017 QB budget? Glenn's release is more an indication that the role he wants isn't likely to materialize for him here and a goodwill gesture.
  2. Releasing Glenn has nothing to do with the cap or Nichols.
  3. The problem for sports media in this town boils down to the difference between reporting and journalism. Lawless, Tait, Penton are all great reporters. Even Wiecek in the sports he's really into, curling and horse racing. He's been brutal on other beats. When Lawless got bumped up to the columnist role (journalism) he had to make everything fit a predetermined narrative, regardless of what happened or what a coach I player might say. Still a hell of a reporter, not interesting or really in tune enough to be a great columnist. We don't have any columnists who are good at being journalists. We have reporters. They need to stick to what they do well. The best thing a guy like Lawless does is break news. His opinions are boring. Wiecek's opinions are even worse. They are entitled and self-centered. I can't recall a column of his where he doesn't make some kind of "woe is me" reference. Horrible. You can't suck at your job and complain about how much you suck at your job looking for sympathy. Nobody wants to read that.
  4. NFL is worse. If a DB or LB touches a receiver after 5 yards it's a flag for holding. The CFL just has to fine tune the challenges. The kickoff isn't an offensive play like a FG attempt or a punt or quick kick. The point is for pinning the opposing team in the endzone or having the opposing team concede, kind of like a safety. Doesn't need to be changed.
  5. The chuck and challenge has become a feature of every teams playbook. It's way out of hand. It's also just ridiculous to watch replays in super slo-mo.
  6. Those times are pretty much meaningless for events. Polo Park is basically at the centre of the city's transportation network or at the very least on the edge of it. Many major routes available in all directions. The U of M campus is extremely isolated. There are 3 roads in and out, and only 2 are accessible for events. Everyone entering and exiting the campus has to go through Pembina Highway, be it in their own car or on a bus. It's a ridiculous traffic jam. You're only going to deal with it if you really want to attend a game and you can't really get that last minute day of game walk up because it takes significant planning to get to a game. It's a barrier, whether people want to label it whining or not the resulting empty seats speak for themselves.
  7. Hard to believe Maas played so long in the CFL. Gotta play field position and realize with 8 minutes left in a game you still could have 4 possessions.
  8. Maas has cost the Eskimos at least 2 wins this season by outcoaching himself. This is another one of those games.
  9. Ottawa getting away with a ton of headshots...Pruneau paying for the last one with a head injury, but not the all important 15 yards the Eskimos need.
  10. Haven't heard anything about that. Maybe a roster bonus. Deferred money has to be paid regardless of whether the player is on the roster or not.
  11. A lot of the growth is in the capital region, not necessarily just the City of Winnipeg. I'm afraid the Bombers have basically killed off the casual fan with the stadium location. Better hope rapid transit takes off.
  12. There's a fair amount of dead weight to make room for the guys they want to keep. Gotta believe they can replace Neufeld, Shologan, Kohlert, Wild, Hurl, Johnson at least with younger and cheaper or convince them to come back on more reasonable deals. I don't quite understand the Bryant and Medlock deals...they gave money back without having a mechanism to get it later through a deferral?
  13. So how does that make the odds of making that kick 1 out of a 100? You believe that if Medlock lined up for that kick 100 times he'd make it once?
  14. Where do you get 1% chance of the kick being made? IMO the 3rd and 4 vs 61 yard FG with Medlock in a dome are about equal odds. If Medlock hit that kick 10 times he'd make 3-4, same for the 3rd down play. The only difference is the time on the clock. Even if you make that kick...BC has too much time.
  15. Would Arcenaux hit a DB in that position if he was blocking downfield? Yes he would. Why can't he be hit?
  16. They do. Every year in the off-season. Kind of dumb to do it now given that a ton of extensions will be signed before the new year.
  17. The only Rider all star is the secretary who collated and filed all those contracts they signed this season.
  18. Meh...Edmonton is good enough to win now. Why would they want to make their team worse for "assets" that are basically a toss at a dartboard? If Reilly goes down week 1 next year they are still a contender with Franklin.
  19. Lapolice has been his best as a play caller when he's had someone to push him off the form chart, like Ken Miller. He still tries to incorporate some of that wackiness they had in Saskatchewan, but his timing is bad. I'm not sure we have anyone on the staff capable of pushing Lapolice, maybe O'Shea will build that rapport with him.
  20. That's kind of oxymoronic, like saying someone is a great driver as long as they don't have to steer.
  21. I'd like to see us grab Danny Vandevoort. We need a great Canadian receiver in the worst way...and he's a great football player too. I think he'd fit really well here.
  22. If you really think what you post here has any impact on who is coaching or managing a pro sports team you are delusional.
  23. They should sit McDuffie and Flanders...although I think it would be good to get Flanders on. Our DL has stunk since they went to dressing 6 rather than 7. Hard to believe we hold a roster spot for a guy who basically just returns kickoffs when other areas of our roster are struggling.
  24. Lapolice is too good at killing momentum by calling some stupid trick play that takes 5 seconds to develop and completely relies on a whole side of the field to part like the Red Sea...or start using the receivers as running backs on stretch plays and hope for the best. Hope we dress Flanders from here on out and keep things simple, let the players win.
  25. Chick made a play, but Burris was real dumb and slow to react to heavy pressure on that play.
